  • what dan you need to be to learn jiin?

  • I'll admit that trying to learn SKIF & the JKA kata Jiin is confusing because the differences are minor but none the less tricky at speed. However I'm not an advocate of criticising system one system over another and I've trained both JKA & SKIF methods. My best advice is to selection which Jiin you prefer & stay with it.

  • Just learned this kata. Not as easy as it seems!!! :D

  • After 38 years practing Shotokan Karate, now learning JIIN.

  • @paulowankan

Call it a fortune. Me, only 29 years of karate experience just started last week with jiin for the first time!!!

  • I congratulate you that you are a believer of Kanazawa, I started to see his katas, he had or has wonderful movements, but if he changes some positions or movements instead beeing shotokan why don´t jhe change the name to a new style, like Kanazawa Kan?

    .

  • I don't beleive in streetfighting, if you have the knowledge of a good karate (means that you practice the way it has to be), you can win easily a streefighting in just on punch.

I lived in Mexico and I had to fight a few times in the street, iI did not started the fight, that people came to me, they wanted to steele me (sorry for my bad english)

And that is why I said that about Kanazawa. He forgot the tradition.

  • Maybe you are right, but In my nearly 34 years practicing karate-do and other martial arts I noticed that the most important things in your practice, religion or whatever is the tradition.

Funakoshi Gichin was a great fighter, when you change tradition you change everything.

As I see Kanazawa sensei forgot the tradition, it remembers me that once I fought against people from Lima Lama an "eclectic" technic, he tried to fight and I repeat the word tried.

  • Kanazawa Sensei forgot the tradition and changed some moves of all the katas, like jiin, meikyo and others.

He may be a very good martial artist, but you mhst not change tradition just because you feel you are the best.

Master Funakoshi decided how to do the katas and no Kanazawa.

  • @posternak1959 i understand your opinion on the tradition thing but if you research deeply enough you will notice somethings dont add up. check the lineage of the katas that master Funakoshi knew and how he taught them to Nakayama, Okazaki and others and you will realize that not even Funakoshi himself knew all the moves and what they meant because every one does the katas differently. change is not so bad if it makes better sense.

  • and yes I do like the variation from the JKA

  • I teach my student the SKIF. way, no offence to JKA but Kanazawa Sensei is the utmost authorithy in Shotokan Katas

  • Osu,Slight variation between JKA and SKIF (Kanco Kanazawa-ex JKA).I have done both variation as I have a dual affiliation, and enjoy doing both as they train a different muscle.

  • i like this kata¨!

  • Very similar to Heian Yondan in certain parts...

  • seems kanazawa sensei does it differently to jka,

  • We teach this kata as demonstrated in the video.

  • This Sensei start by bringing his right foot in instead of his left and following each double punch we are now taught to bring the punching hand down in Gedan rather than the other hand.

Has this changed does anyone know?

  • well, theres no right way, many people do it deifferently, like theres no complete correct way, many senseis teach different

  • Jka often changes the direction of attacks, but the principle remains the same. Changes are made just to force karate-ka's to think when they are doing kata.

  • @Victor9302 - This Sensei is doing it the JKA way. After the double punches, the move is the same as the first move of this kata- it is the same move as 2 &3 moves in Heian Sandan- a break/strike to both face and diapham/mid section. This has not changed as far as the JKA way.
