Oh hai! Have you read the book Public Speaking for Frankenstein ? I got some unbelivable techniques from it and was able delivered a speech without sweat.
No, this song is about how all of the members of The Band have been pushed musically since childhood and they feel like they never grew up properly. It says it both in Levon Helm's book and in the liner notes of Stage Fright, it also has to do with how insane success had driven them. "Deep in the heart of a lonely kid, suffering so much for what he did/they gave this plow boy his fortune and fame, since that day he ain't been the same." It means he wishes he hadn't done what he's done.
The Band's first concert was scheduled for Bill Graham's Winterland Ballroom. Robbie was petrified at all the attention and press the band was receiving before having ever performed on their own, and developed a staggering case of stage fright. A doctor was actually brought in to get him calmed down and on stage. This song, from the second LP, describes that night. Anyone that thinks it's about Dylan is insane. It is, however, the best song ever about the fear of meeting expectations.
This song is about DYLAN !!! I saw this show on New Years . Then in 1974 in Denver -- this song was played by the Band before Dylan entered . joey sunnyside

ザ・バンドの傑作ライヴ”ロック・オブ・エイジズ"より大好きな、”ステージ・フライト"だ、イントロのピアノからしてポップな香りが漂った、ヴォーカルはマニュエルか!

A beautiful song, tells a story and evokes emotion. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

I would argue that Dylan NEVER had stage fright - he got in the back door and then never left.
