Kool Moe Dee ate LL's lunch on this one. LL Cool J is a very gifted rapper, but he must bow down to Kool Moe Dee on the lyrics tip. He should say to Kool Moe Dee, (Daddy I don't want no more. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you). Lolll...
OK.....and HOW was mama said better than this?????....Def Jam served LL well over time. And we know Moe Dee was telling it real when he said "You never had no juice in New York". LL might be the most confirmed softy to ever speak hard lyrics......fucking fraud

I will say that "Jack The Ripper" was a banger though and he got that off but then Moe Dee came back with this...and just murdered it...

One of the reasons KMD went quiet in the late 90s was because of a radio white-out of him after he release "How Funky Can One Black Man Be". Mainstream radio programmers famously regarded the single as "racist" and took him out of rotation.
lyrically? yes. career? no. moe dee self destructed after death blow. vanished. but moe dee is oneof the most lyrically talented peotics in hip hop history
LL actually started the beef. Moe Dee took it to wax first, but LL was talking first. You LL defenders can chill. KMD won, but LL has nothing to prove. One of the greats. As far as leaving in the 90s, remember, KMD had been around since the 70's. You can find Kool Moe Dee techniques, flows and vocabulary schemes in nearly every rapper out there. Dude with a big mouth, maybe, but he had a lot more to go with it.
Dayumn... Tryna be me, now LL stands for Lower Level, Lack Lustre Last Least, Limp Lover Lousy Lame, Latent Lethargic Lazy Lemon, Little Logic Lucky Leech, Liver Lipped Laborious Louse on a Loser's Lips Live in Limbo, Lyrical Lapse Low Life with the loud raps, boy You can't win, huh, I don't bend Look what you got yourself in Just usin' your name I took those L's Hung 'em on your head and rocked your bells ...dayumn
Do you know what I think about Dee? He is a guy with big mouth, but what if you do tough and even don't make it? I mean, where is his new album? He had his last album in 1995, and that was a best of. The rest in the 90's were nothing. He stopped rapping.
They say he comes back, well, I don't see a fucking thing. He won the war, maybe, but he is dead.
i agree. the difference between Moe Dee and LL was lyrics vs song melodies. Moe Dee had tons of lyrics but not that good of music. LL had awesome songs but his lyrics were just alright. Like when i wanna hear intelligent lyrics i listen to Moe Dee. When im drinking a beer and smoking weed i like to listen to LL.
omg first of all my kids think im crazy..so many memories.listen i hav been a cool j fan since day one had the kangol white adidas sweat suit even the radio.but moe dee ate his ass up wit ths one.i gotta say moe just s-it tore his a8s up. DAMN
I have to say that I too was a LL Cool J fan. Still am. But, like you said....
KMD Toe (not "tore") but TOA his azz up in this song. That "LL stands for..." line was stupid serious! That right there stole the show for this song right her!
Moe Dee finished him with this track. And by finished, I don't mean that he ended his career, because obviously L.L. continued to make and sell records, but no one in their right mind was confused about who was a better lyricist after "Let's Go"....Cool J did exactly what Moe Dee told him to do..."Wanna' survive? Stick with the love songs." Lyrically speaking, Kool Moe Dee was/is L.L.'s superior, regardless of what the record sales say...
L.L. fired the first shot with "Jack The Ripper", but Kool Moe Dee tore him a new ass with "Let's Go" and "Death Blow"......Other than his battle with Cannibus, he never tired to have a rematch with Moe Dee....I wonder why? (lol)
moe killed LL with this track!! moe d won the battle but LL won the war as we all know!! if moe d had better beats just maybe he's still around!! but you have to adjust and b versatile in which LL did!!
I'm in the minority with this longevity talk. Kool Moe Dee was rhyming, before wax in the late 1970's. It wasn't until 1980 until he actually recorded with Treachorous Three (imo one of the greatest groups). Had solid solo affairs and a classic in "Knowledge is King" in 1989. That's roughly 12+ years of solid longevity/body of work right there. Granted, LL had a great run, but after "Mama Said" his albums were uneven, unfocused, and his ego made him fearless to battle lyrical heavyweights.
LL's female fan-base kept him alive he used sex as a weapon to sell records! So a smarter businessman than Kool Moe Maybe......A better rapper ???? that's crazy and profane! listen to lyrical qaulity and not marketing skillz!!!!!!
Probaly the greatest battle rap ever! This one ranks right up there with Ice Cubes - No Vasaline battle rap against N.W.A. This ones in the top 5 of all time greats!!
It did suck it was a comercial song what do you expect this is a lyrical songs this song cracks me up every time i hear it and i thought biggie was funny.
LL might have had the better career overall but this track was deadly! Kool Moe Dee destroyed LL on this and in my opinion, won the battle between them.
I'm a Metalhead(sorry) But this kicks the shit outta any hip-hop arrround today. probably because this takes actual talent to do. just like poetry man....
Where ever you are. God bless you Kool Moe Dee. All time greatest. I got through some rough times because of you. From O.G to O.G.

KMD was as bad lyrically as anybody. LL had no shot head to head.

Kool Moe Dee's vocal flow on this track is old school but I think the lyrics can stand up to most of what we hear today in Hip Hop.

If you don't, boy you'll get hurt
Feel like dirt and have to revert

Kool Moe Dee was the only rapper who gave LL a real hard time, Canibus got LL with Second Round KO, but Moe Dee destroyed LL in some of his songs!
jwh1999 1 year ago
One of the reasons KMD went quiet in the late 90s was because of a radio white-out of him after he release "How Funky Can One Black Man Be". Mainstream radio programmers famously regarded the single as "racist" and took him out of rotation.

moe dee was a better lyricist... but LL brought better beats. I still prefer Jack the Ripper over this just because it has better beats.

The DIFFERENCE: LL wrote what the ppl WANTED to hear ... KMD wrote what the ppl NEEDED to hear.
DirectLineInJesus 1 year ago 3
Both Rappers were successful in their own way.
DirectLineInJesus 1 year ago
LL actually started the beef. Moe Dee took it to wax first, but LL was talking first. You LL defenders can chill. KMD won, but LL has nothing to prove. One of the greats. As far as leaving in the 90s, remember, KMD had been around since the 70's. You can find Kool Moe Dee techniques, flows and vocabulary schemes in nearly every rapper out there. Dude with a big mouth, maybe, but he had a lot more to go with it.
Thaxiss 1 year ago
The fact is L.L. took the rap style from KMD and instead of giving credit to the orginal rappers he mocked them and simply bragged on himself.
LL bragged he was the greatest but was always to chicken to do a LIVE battle.
Moe Dee felt he would step it up and shut him down and did. U will see other rappers rip on LL such as Ice T, etc.
The Amazing thing is it was real b/t these two.
LL was shut down for 2 yrs after this...came back with Mama... then Moe Dee returned wt Death Blow...

why moe dee started beefing with L anyway was it really just to sell records and the sickest verses was all then L words got dayum he killed him
devantesworld 1 year ago
Do you know what I think about Dee? He is a guy with big mouth, but what if you do tough and even don't make it? I mean, where is his new album? He had his last album in 1995, and that was a best of. The rest in the 90's were nothing. He stopped rapping.
They say he comes back, well, I don't see a fucking thing. He won the war, maybe, but he is dead.
RayZachariasO 2 years ago
i agree. the difference between Moe Dee and LL was lyrics vs song melodies. Moe Dee had tons of lyrics but not that good of music. LL had awesome songs but his lyrics were just alright. Like when i wanna hear intelligent lyrics i listen to Moe Dee. When im drinking a beer and smoking weed i like to listen to LL.

I don't blame LL for not answering this. It would have ended his career. "Smart move LL".

You know what, numbers?
I have to say that I too was a LL Cool J fan. Still am. But, like you said....
KMD Toe (not "tore") but TOA his azz up in this song. That "LL stands for..." line was stupid serious! That right there stole the show for this song right her!
MrLyrics83 2 years ago 2
he "toe" his azz OFF!
Splendorious 1 year ago
Moe Dee finished him with this track. And by finished, I don't mean that he ended his career, because obviously L.L. continued to make and sell records, but no one in their right mind was confused about who was a better lyricist after "Let's Go"....Cool J did exactly what Moe Dee told him to do..."Wanna' survive? Stick with the love songs." Lyrically speaking, Kool Moe Dee was/is L.L.'s superior, regardless of what the record sales say...

Tried to withdraw because you saw
The juice I got's not like before
Huh, I'm formidable, unforgettable
You're submittable, you look pitiful
Yeah you're headstrong, but you're dead wrong
Wanna survive? Stick with the love songs
Take off your shirt, flex and flirt
And leave the real hard rhymes to the hard rhyme experts DOMINATION

L.L. fired the first shot with "Jack The Ripper", but Kool Moe Dee tore him a new ass with "Let's Go" and "Death Blow"......Other than his battle with Cannibus, he never tired to have a rematch with Moe Dee....I wonder why? (lol)

KMD shot first, because he was offended by the 'thieving' without the due respect.
It wasn't necessary. KMD is a one-note wonder. you can put any of his beats under any of his rhymes. Ugh.

moe killed LL with this track!! moe d won the battle but LL won the war as we all know!! if moe d had better beats just maybe he's still around!! but you have to adjust and b versatile in which LL did!!
spadezfella36 2 years ago 2
I'm in the minority with this longevity talk. Kool Moe Dee was rhyming, before wax in the late 1970's. It wasn't until 1980 until he actually recorded with Treachorous Three (imo one of the greatest groups). Had solid solo affairs and a classic in "Knowledge is King" in 1989. That's roughly 12+ years of solid longevity/body of work right there. Granted, LL had a great run, but after "Mama Said" his albums were uneven, unfocused, and his ego made him fearless to battle lyrical heavyweights.
TheAtotheK 2 years ago 2
LL's female fan-base kept him alive he used sex as a weapon to sell records! So a smarter businessman than Kool Moe Maybe......A better rapper ???? that's crazy and profane! listen to lyrical qaulity and not marketing skillz!!!!!!

You may not like the song, but by then, good lyricists were down played like Big Daddy Kane and LL was coming with juice.

LL might have had the better career overall but this track was deadly! Kool Moe Dee destroyed LL on this and in my opinion, won the battle between them.
