love the tone, and I can hear that high tension of the strings in your playing which I love. I want to get these strings for my active yamaha rbx 374, do you think they will work, or will the high tension be bad? Thank and great playing :-)
Nice vid man. I just needed to ask, Would you recomend to keep an old set of strings, I mean, how bad is it to put a set of strings after you took them out? Because I have an old set of round ones that I don't want to get rid of (and they were very expensive), but I want to try my new set of flat ones.
i have 760FMs on my P bass, and i noticed that the G string looks darker than the rest. I've heard that happening a lot with LaBellas, just like how your E is shinier
No, not really. I've had them on an old '80s Korean Squier P-bass copy for over a year, and not only haven't they ruined this cheap bass, they stay remarkably well in tune. I should note that this bass has a fat neck at the nut (1.75"), and not the slimmer Precision neck of later years.
I had these same strings on a 65 P bass for awhile...until the extreme tension started to wreck the neck. I loved the sound. But...much happier now w/ TI flats...less tension so u can use a lighter touch, never touch the truss rod, rarely goes out of tune, and really sits in the mix nicely.
Do you think a squire P-bass could stand the tension of these strings? I cant afford a standard american "Funk machine", but I was thinking of modifying the "Squier Classic Vibe '60s Precision Bass Guitar". Let me know what you think. Also have you tried "a bell and foam" with these strings.
Hmm... Doesn't that mean you'll have to enlarge the nut slot, I would also love to try the LaBella's, but the gauges of my bass is .045, .065, .080, .100
You can get the gauges from the LaBella website - the higher tension (for me) allows a wider dynamic range to play with (soft to loud) which in turn give a wider variety of tone from the string IMO
This week-end there was a special motown service on the radio, and some nice stories about the man Jamerson were told. Such amazing bass lines. It was yet another opportunity to listen to "What's Going On": I can't believe how (apparently) simple, airy, musical and laid back but at the same time tense, exciting and complex this bass line is...
Sorry to hear about your vids being removed too...it's happening all over. Check out this vid by zodiakironfist on the issue, it's very good and explains a lot:

Do your hands hurt after playing a long time with those strings?
It seems to me that they're 52 - 110, are they?

Ok I got them installed and set up by my luthier a few months ago.
Though I don't even play 0.001% of Mr. Jamerson, I am glad to have these strings, I was made for flats... yep definitely.

classic tone which was ruined by Rotosound :^) - they might not sound so good on metalneck Kramer bass ???

These ropes can ruin the instrument for having much tension?

hi ! very nice playing. may I ask how you would describe the tone of these strings versus the standard labella flats ?
zaksnaporaz 3 years ago
Cheers. No real difference in tone, but they are funkier!
jamersonshook 3 years ago
Hi! So you mean funkier in the way they look or feel, if there's no difference in tone ?
zaksnaporaz 3 years ago
They feel funkier to play - you can play them harder.
jamersonshook 3 years ago
hello again, do you mean the tension is different ? what about each string's gauge, how do they differ ?
zaksnaporaz 3 years ago
You can get the gauges from the LaBella website - the higher tension (for me) allows a wider dynamic range to play with (soft to loud) which in turn give a wider variety of tone from the string IMO

They really took down your videos for copyright infringement? That's ridiculous!
You're right, the E string sticks out like a soar thumb.
