  • great tone! anyone knows the name of the song?

  • love the tone, and I can hear that high tension of the strings in your playing which I love. I want to get these strings for my active yamaha rbx 374, do you think they will work, or will the high tension be bad? Thank and great playing :-)

  • you got the jamerson tone down pretty good. beautiful bass.

  • so these strings are called La Bella 1954 jame jamerson flatwounds?

  • living colour ftw

  • nice playing man, btw i have a cheap ($89) sx p bass are these strings worth the investment?

  • Comment removed

  • i have 760FMs on my P bass, and i noticed that the G string looks darker than the rest. I've heard that happening a lot with LaBellas, just like how your E is shinier

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my GOD, that was and is my ish!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Love rears its UGLY Head....Sweet....Thanx

Oh yeah, do yo use string mutes on Igors Chromatic Exercise?

And can you do a complete version of this Living Colour track?

  • awesome tune, (love Living Colour) and great playing, great tone

  • Ok I got them installed and set up by my luthier a few months ago.

Though I don't even play 0.001% of Mr. Jamerson, I am glad to have these strings, I was made for flats... yep definitely.

  • Thank you for not slapping!

  • classic tone which was ruined by Rotosound :^) - they might not sound so good on metalneck Kramer bass ???

  • These ropes can ruin the instrument for having much tension?

  • No, not really. I've had them on an old '80s Korean Squier P-bass copy for over a year, and not only haven't they ruined this cheap bass, they stay remarkably well in tune. I should note that this bass has a fat neck at the nut (1.75"), and not the slimmer Precision neck of later years.

  • amazing tone!

  • Do your hands hurt after playing a long time with those strings?

It seems to me that they're 52 - 110, are they?

  • I had these same strings on a 65 P bass for awhile...until the extreme tension started to wreck the neck. I loved the sound. But...much happier now w/ TI flats...less tension so u can use a lighter touch, never touch the truss rod, rarely goes out of tune, and really sits in the mix nicely.

  • Do you think a squire P-bass could stand the tension of these strings? I cant afford a standard american "Funk machine", but I was thinking of modifying the "Squier Classic Vibe '60s Precision Bass Guitar". Let me know what you think. Also have you tried "a bell and foam" with these strings.

Great tone BTW :-) Keep those videos coming.

  • Thanks - the Squier will be fine - this one has a foam mute under the bell..

  • Hmm... Doesn't that mean you'll have to enlarge the nut slot, I would also love to try the LaBella's, but the gauges of my bass is .045, .065, .080, .100

Though I could just go to my luthier. :P

  • I installed these on my standard mexi P without touching the nut.

  • @jamersonshook -sounds great! what kind of mute do you use? just a piece of foam? did jamerson use one aswell?

  • @1954telecaster Did Jamerson use one. laughinggirls.jpg

  • @ponyman13 -WELL DID HE USE ONE OR NOT?!?

  • what song is that??

  • Love Rears Its Ugly Head

  • hi ! very nice playing. may I ask how you would describe the tone of these strings versus the standard labella flats ?

  • Cheers. No real difference in tone, but they are funkier!

  • Hi! So you mean funkier in the way they look or feel, if there's no difference in tone ?

  • They feel funkier to play - you can play them harder.

  • hello again, do you mean the tension is different ? what about each string's gauge, how do they differ ?

  • You can get the gauges from the LaBella website - the higher tension (for me) allows a wider dynamic range to play with (soft to loud) which in turn give a wider variety of tone from the string IMO

  • yes, that makes sense. Thanks!

This week-end there was a special motown service on the radio, and some nice stories about the man Jamerson were told. Such amazing bass lines. It was yet another opportunity to listen to "What's Going On": I can't believe how (apparently) simple, airy, musical and laid back but at the same time tense, exciting and complex this bass line is...

  • what song is this sounds like ben harper?

also you have amazing timing and feel

  • "Love Rears Its Ugly Head"

  • My favourite colour: Living Colour.

    Great line!

  • Nice sound! Those are the "Jamerson" set LaBella's? Is the tension killer?

  • Yes - the tension's great for me!

  • Sorry to hear about your vids being removed too...it's happening all over. Check out this vid by zodiakironfist on the issue, it's very good and explains a lot:

    w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m /watch?v=9fUKPg4doUs

Please keep bassing it though! I've given up on submitting bass videos myself...

Oh and nice playing as always :)

  • Cheers!

  • They really took down your videos for copyright infringement? That's ridiculous!

You're right, the E string sticks out like a soar thumb.
