used to break back in the day and i knew hip hop was here to stay when i saw gladys video with break dancers in it. sadly, hip hop is now obscure and hidden from the masses and only the true followers know where to find it now.
Gladys and The Pips were one of the smoothest, most under rated R&B acts of the 60's and 70's. In my opinion, they left the Supremes and Diana Ross in the DUST.
@Haevenn yeah Im not joking. It is me. My skating days are pretty much done these days. Here is some more info. The girls crossing the stair case @1:50 , The one wearing the white windbreaker and long brown hair was my girl friend. If you look at me in this video you could tell its me.
@StarlightRoller used. to watch this video all day. it was in heavy rotation back then. did you guys get paid a lot to be in the video? i probably would've done it for free!
I always thought this song was produced by Jam, Lewis, and Leon, but none of them produced this song, however Leon played the bass and additional keyboards on this song. Ricky Smith (a collague of Leon Sylvers who produced and played for The Sylvers, The Whispers, Carrie Lucas and Shalamar) produced "Save The Overtime" The only song that had production credits by Jam and Lewis with Leon is "Can You Treat Me Like She Does" by Real to Reel (1983).
@marcusrob02 Leon Sylvers III -- famously known for his work as producer for the SOLAR sound 9most notably The Whispers and Shalamar) and former member of The Sylvers -- produced this song. He also produced another big hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips from this album, "You're Number One (in My Book)."
@edabm75 YES!! I was thinking about this song last night and decided to youtube it this morning. That outfit is bangin! Matter fact, she just gave me an idea for the next time I go out. lol
these jams have a groove that make you want to dance . they capture the time and feeling as you can see nothing compares to this day 80s still funkin and rockin
I remember seeing this on VH1 around 1983. I like this version way better than the one she does live. The live version is too fast, sounds too old-school Motown. This one has much more funk to it.
This track still go!! I remember when this was bangin in 1983!! I was 9 that summer, and all you heard was this, micheal jackson, kool and the gang, and lionel richie! This song get you in the mood to get out there!!
I remember too. This was the first video I ever saw with break dancers or breaking. I always thought it was an unusual song to be used to show case something from the hip hop culture. Luv Gladys Knight though. And loved this video.
This video introduced me to break dancing. I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was a saturday afternoon video show. Saw the video, and immediately went outside and started trying to do everything I saw. My mind was blown. I feel so fortunate to have grown up in the 80's. Kid's these days just don't understand. I have yet to run into anyone who grew up during that time who said they didn't have a great time growing up
ahhh!!!! boom boxes and breakin'.........this song is soooo cool with such a great beat and hook and of course that soulful Gladys voice!!!! Thanks so much for posting....
I remember hearing this as little girl in the late 80's I was about 4 or 5 then. My dad would play this around the house. I grew up on music like this. This the kind of music my dad and aunts and uncles play at barbeques and house parties.
i rember watching this and my friends had cardboard on the street just like this soon as this vid went off i ran down stairs an tried the same moves an almost broke a bone lol

The girl from 0:21-0:28 is cute. This has to be one of the best music videos of the 80's. Heck even today. I just like how everyone is dancing and having a good time. You don't see that anymore. Music videos today are crap!!

check out the rhythmic strutting of Ms. Knight's body throughout the video. She really put her heart and soul in this song and I'm feelin' it!!!! The Pips are pimp as hell too. Might never see something like this again.
