Hi, my dear friend! If one of your families or friends is deaf or hearing-impaired, I recommend you a good site called DeafMatching,com. It is the most trusted and largest community for deaf, ASL and hearing-impaired. There people can find those who share their values and life experiences, look for friendship, relationship, love and more. I’m glad if this is useful to you.
I think Switched at Birth has brought about a renewed awareness of the Deaf at least for the younger generations. I remember when Marlee was in Children of a Lesser God. I never gave much thought to deaf people after that until I saw her again on TV on West Wing. I have worked with a hearing impared coworker for almost 5 years and never considered learning to sign. Now my daughter (15) has taken interest in this show and signing and it has given me an opportunity to bond with her and my coworker
I would have to agree totally!!!! I'm hearing. My sisters totally deaf, and I am in the interpreter training program at troy state. I would love to see this a reality show where the whole world can be informed and interested in teh deaf community. It amazes poeple when I tell them I am getting my Bachelors in Interpreting for the deaf. They say whats that? What will you do with that?People are lost when it comes to thinking about or knowing that the deaf community is huge.
Yes I agree with mommy0428. I am hard of hearing, and intermediate signer and I wear hearing aides... I couldn't agree more with you about it needing to be on T.V. You would even think since they now have the woman from Switch At Birth on there it would get more attention.
I would love to watch this show. When I saw Switched at Birth, it was really the first time I really even thought about how deaf culture was so different than hearing culture. It really is a beautiful thing, and I hope this gets picked up at some point.
Hello i am Wesley Silva (Wallaworth)... Wow! Im emotion, I liked to see his family and the deaf, I want u guys to know it ... more I live in Brazil I am Brazilian, but I have an American cousin lives there Floria in America ... when I'm traveling to america, God willing ... God bless your family greatly... By: Wesley Wallworth...
my sister signs but she's not deaf, well be driving somewhere and music would be playing and she would sign the song while i sing. i ABSOLUTLY LOVE sign language i wish that they taught it at my school so i could learn. hope this show gets all the sponsers it deserves. OH AND i love u MARLEE MATLIN
I am hearing but am learing ASL. I would LOVE to watch this show!!! What a great family! I hope its on tv soon...and in Canada, where I am!!! The hearing community needs to learn more about deaf culture. That is the only way to overcome many obsticles that the deaf experience every day. This show would educate the hearing in a much needed way, I think! :)
I'm deaf, Australian and I'm Oral Deaf, I signs, some, and I speaks, very well, and I'm a 100% BOOKWORM, yet this show is great, makes me feel great about my deaf identity!
@jsand27466 I'm a CODA as well, though I've only recently begun to study and learn about deaf culture! It's amazing to think about the differences and how it's affected our development.
That is badass, i salute you Jared. Dont listen to these saps on here that say you shouldnt say ugh, do what you can with what chu got. Because the way i see it, your whole families got skills bro.
I ADORE YOUR FAMILY! plus i dont think you should ever feel ugh, and yet there were some comments you said that i disagree, that your sibs wouldnt make it through mainstream schools (hearing schools) that shows that you are kind of stereotyping like every other hearing people, I come from a Deaf family (7th generations passed) I went to hearing school and got my masters, i'm 26, so drop the stereotype though. Your parents have the right attiude, I suggest you to learn from it.
This is horrible. These kids are doing nothing but perpetuating the stereotype that urban youth such as myself have worked so hard to avoid. Really kids? Throwing up these gang signs like it's something to do? For shame.
@JoeRogansBeard they are using American Sign Language... It's not "Gang signs"!!! It's a real language. They are Deaf, so they are using their language. Why are you being so rude. ASL is a beutiful language!!! I love ASL, and Deaf culture. And there is a difference between deaf, and Deaf. Deaf people don't see being deaf as a disability. Howevver lower d, deaf people do. d=disabilty , and D=Culturally-deaf
6:56 thats guy who tall used to be goes to my school "texas school for deaf' but now he live in calfornina and join calfornina school for deaf??? that's interesting! lol i didnt know

It worries me to see where the sense of education and entertainment is heading to. I don't know how to sign. But I'd definitely watch this educational program with my family and learn about the Deaf culture n language.
@mommy0428 Exactly. I'd rather see this show than Jersey Shore any day! You don't get to know a person until you can see into their lives, and see that they're just like you, only they do things a little different.
@mommy0428 I would have to agree totally!!!! I'm hearing. My sisters totally deaf, and I am in the interpreter training program at troy state. CODAs have it a little hard sometimes. Hey, at least they didn't try to get you a surgery to force you to become Deaf like some Deaf pride people want.
so whats going on with is show? is it in the filming process? its looks great!! i love how so much of deaf culture is on tv now with shows like switched at birth. these type of shows should have always been on tv to open the eyes of everyone
I hate how people say that being Deaf is a disadvantage and a disability. It's NOT! If anything its more of an advantage because the rest of your senses are heightened. ASL is a beautiful language and so is the Deaf culture.
wow, looks like an interesting show! i'm very interested in the deaf culture and sign language. i've been wanting to take classes for years but school is always in the way
I LOVE DEAF CULTURE!!! :) ASL is such a beautiful language. I want to start going to like more Deaf events, and making more Deaf friends. It bugs me when hearing people say they are disabled ect.... Deaf CAN!! :)
1: 06-- Awww, that's so cute! Big and little brother are wearing almost the same thing (jeans and a gray shirt)!!! Wish they'd have more episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's not a thing wrong with being deaf. Sure it is difficult. Is life supposed to be easy all the time? how we would learn anything if it was always easy... and i think we should adapt to other cultures instead of feeling like everyone should be like us. Like everyone is supposed to hear or see or speak the same language. No. that's not life. Life is learning to adapt to other people & their way of life instead of thinking everyone has to be like you. ASL is a beautiful language.
I agree with people of the Deaf community, those who believe in deafness as a cultural aspect. If I was deaf, I would not want to change it and I don't see it as an impairment. Why change something because society thinks it is not normal? What is "normal"? It's bull shit. They have a beautiful culture and I admire it.
This looks like a wonderful series!! Where are the episodes? My family is learning sign and we need all the practice we can get! We are currently borrowing "Signing Time" from our local library, but the series only has about 13 episodes... I would love to see another series to help us continue to learn this language!!
Part 3 of 3 - I always tell people 'I myself do not have a hearing problem, I'm just Deaf. The problem that I have is with the people who decided to have a problem with the fact that I decided NOT to have a problem with it."
Part 2 of 3 - (I did the same thing myself with my son) Bridgetta is teaching them that not everyone have the same values.
And really no one has the right to determine what is ok and not ok and then pass judgment on someone who expressed a different opinion especially about something they are LIVING with and you're not.
@NiKKiBSEXCii well i am hearing and my girlfriend is hearing...but my girlfriends parents are deaf, i am learning my butt off to learn ASL cuz her parents really like me, so i am learning whatever it takes to communicate with them, in fact, my gf's dad and i had a real man to man talk (talking about sports, models, cars, so on and so forth" and i have been learning asl for just 2 months and struggled with him...best advice i can give u is make ur bf teach u asl, as much as he can
maybe ABC Family should show this after Switched at Birth. I think more hearing people that are made familiar with Deaf Culture will maybe help to bridge the gap. Or like Ivysays.... this does seem like a TLC show.
I have deaf family and im the only one can hear. This video show somehow disspointed me. of course, there are some that i can realte to but some that are not and extremely offensive... sigh.... but overall good show.
Yeah I know it may be tough for you to understand this. You had to be there. But I tell you that it IS possible for us to make delicious lemonade using lemons life gives us, smile.
How could you possibly think it's acceptable to wish an impairment on your children? Do you not see that it isn't about YOUR life, which is all you appear to be talking about, but rather the child's? And why? Nobody would deny that deaf children can lead very fulfilling lives but I'm sure none of them WANT to be deaf. It's not enough to say that 'it's tough to understand'.
Part 1 0f 3 Whoa, when you went on about me wishing deafness upon kids, I was taken back and I reviewed the video again. Bridgetta never said she wished it upon the kids she said that she accepted it herself and yes called it a gift. So can you tell me where exactly in the video that she 'wish it upon the kids'. If you are referring to her comments in the hospital, she was being sarcastic to give people pause when they expressed dismay and relief after the babies' hearing tests.
'Gift' refers to a positive thing. Calling an impairment a 'positive' thing is not reasonable. Being 'fine' with your children being deaf is horrible. She clearly doesn't see anything wrong with being deaf, which is idiotic.
It is an impairment, pure and simple, and her kids will have a very difficult life because of it. Furthermore, people with major impairments that can be hereditary should not even be having children. There are plenty of healthy children without homes as it is.
There is no 'deaf culture'. You're not some exclusive fucking subgroup. You're a boring, bland bastard just like everbody else.
When did I say speaking French was a fucking disability? What bloody planet are you on? I said being deaf IS a disability, and that is all I said; according to every medical definition, it is. Disability = limitation. Deaf people are limited in that they cannot hear. What the hell are you talking to me about predjudice for?
@DrownedBeliefs Isolated groups of people always develop their own culture. Deaf people tend to group up with other deaf people because they can actually communicate with each other. Thus, they're a somewhat seperate group, with their own culture. One difference is deaf culture values contribution to the group more than individual achievement, which is the opposite of mainstream American culture.
@DrownedBeliefs she doesn't see anything wrong with being deaf/Deaf because there isn't. They just use a different language in there everyday lives. They can do everything hearing people can do exept hear. It's like living in the US, and speaking french. You learn both languages. I LOVE DEAF CULTURE, AND AMERICAN SIGN LANGAUGE!!! :D
Is there a way to sign a petition to get this on tv? on behalf of codas everywhere, I would ABSOLUTELY sit and watch this every week and it is such a perfect example of meshing the hearing and deaf worlds together.
aww i know how the boy feels becuz i grow up in a deaf family my parents were both deaf and my bro n sis were hearing and i remember growing up and i would get in trouble at school and the teacher would say i am goin to call ur parents and i said go head lol but i love my parents would change them for nothing and now i have a son and i am teaching him asl
I'm working on learning sign language, there is a huge deaf element in my community, my church has a lot of deaf people, and theres a deaf school nearby, and my best friend was born deaf so she helps to teach me ASL. (: I feel so great when I can tell what somebody is saying! :D
This story is touching story.. I'm hearing but learnt sign because my best mate is deaf.. Well last night I was at an restaurant and this lady in front of me was deaf and the person severing her didn't understand what this lady wanted so I help translate it made me feel good..
My family is all hearing, but I am learning sign and I teach my nephew, and one day we walked down an isle and he started signing stuff that he saw (candy, milk, cookies, things like that) and some lady that was there looked at him with pity and said "Oh. IS he deaf!!????" and when we said no, she acted relieved. I didn't understand that, honestly. Why pity anyone who is deaf when you should pity yourself for being oblivious to the deaf culture. sorry bout that little rant, just saying!
I could see this show on TLC. Production quality needs upped a bit but I was interested throughout the 10 minutes and would watch this show on TV. I really hope one of the cable networks discovers this show and signs you to a deal.
At the end when the two little kids signed "I love you" that was enough to make me cry. Even though they're going through this, they live they're lives normally. I really want to learn sign language now and also because of switched at birth:) god bless everyone who is deaf(;
i'm just a lil curious, why didnt jarred say out loud what him and his lil brother where talking about...i mean my gf and her deaf family does that around me, her parents and their other hearing daughter tells me what they are saying...so what if u cant hear or do hear, everyone should know what is being said
I just found this pilot and am so surprised that there aren't any more episodes! Wow, what an amazing idea for a show. I know it's almost 18 months old, but hopefully they'll bring it back.
my gf (who has deaf parents) taught me the deaf world, not only the deaf world but to see that someone with a "handicap" doesent mean they cant get around, doesnt matter if its deaf, blind, loss of limp, or medical condition...there is no such thing as someone who cant get around and difference doesnt mean pittty, just means get around for them so they CAN get around, and i want everyone to know (IT IS NEVER ABOUT WHAT THEY CANT DO....BUT WHAT THEY CAN DO)

P.E.O. are electrical & stimulate the firing in the
axon, they also increase the neuro-transmitter that
converts in the axon to electron. It fires across the

increase the firing of that synapsis & it will jump
across the gap & connect to the nerve that did not
connect. Once it starts firing, it will start growing
together until it hard-wires.”

And really no one has the right to determine what is ok and not ok and then pass judgment on someone who expressed a different opinion especially about something they are LIVING with and you're not.

@CrySweetMidnight texting while driving is dangerous too. but people still do it.

I'm hearing & my boyfriend is deaf.
It's not easy for us to communicate but
we try and I hope we stay together for a long time.
People always say were not going to work out
or i'll tell them my bf is deaf and they always say
"how do you communicate?" or "ohhh.. that's so sad"
i don't want people feeling bad for us. it's like any other
relationship. I just wish more people would understand...
NiKKiBSEXCii 5 months ago
@NiKKiBSEXCii well i am hearing and my girlfriend is hearing...but my girlfriends parents are deaf, i am learning my butt off to learn ASL cuz her parents really like me, so i am learning whatever it takes to communicate with them, in fact, my gf's dad and i had a real man to man talk (talking about sports, models, cars, so on and so forth" and i have been learning asl for just 2 months and struggled with him...best advice i can give u is make ur bf teach u asl, as much as he can

@dk5388 yeah i know :)

@CrySweetMidnight hearing people are more likely to get into accidents then hard of hearing or deaf people.
aliciaann72 5 months ago
maybe ABC Family should show this after Switched at Birth. I think more hearing people that are made familiar with Deaf Culture will maybe help to bridge the gap. Or like Ivysays.... this does seem like a TLC show.

Believing being deaf is a 'gift' and wishing it upon your children?
Sigh...
DrownedBeliefs 6 months ago
@DrownedBeliefs ,
Yeah I know it may be tough for you to understand this. You had to be there. But I tell you that it IS possible for us to make delicious lemonade using lemons life gives us, smile.
DeafLori 6 months ago
@DeafLori
DrownedBeliefs 6 months ago
Part 1 0f 3 Whoa, when you went on about me wishing deafness upon kids, I was taken back and I reviewed the video again. Bridgetta never said she wished it upon the kids she said that she accepted it herself and yes called it a gift. So can you tell me where exactly in the video that she 'wish it upon the kids'. If you are referring to her comments in the hospital, she was being sarcastic to give people pause when they expressed dismay and relief after the babies' hearing tests.
DeafLori 5 months ago
@DeafLori

@pookymuffin101
'Deaf culture'...?
There is no 'deaf culture'. You're not some exclusive fucking subgroup. You're a boring, bland bastard just like everbody else.
When did I say speaking French was a fucking disability? What bloody planet are you on? I said being deaf IS a disability, and that is all I said; according to every medical definition, it is. Disability = limitation. Deaf people are limited in that they cannot hear. What the hell are you talking to me about predjudice for?

@DrownedBeliefs you are wrong it is a culture you should have more respect!
rebeccavidal 5 months ago

RandomMcJagger 7 months ago
My family is all hearing, but I am learning sign and I teach my nephew, and one day we walked down an isle and he started signing stuff that he saw (candy, milk, cookies, things like that) and some lady that was there looked at him with pity and said "Oh. IS he deaf!!????" and when we said no, she acted relieved. I didn't understand that, honestly. Why pity anyone who is deaf when you should pity yourself for being oblivious to the deaf culture. sorry bout that little rant, just saying!

my gf (who has deaf parents) taught me the deaf world, not only the deaf world but to see that someone with a "handicap" doesent mean they cant get around, doesnt matter if its deaf, blind, loss of limp, or medical condition...there is no such thing as someone who cant get around and difference doesnt mean pittty, just means get around for them so they CAN get around, and i want everyone to know (IT IS NEVER ABOUT WHAT THEY CANT DO....BUT WHAT THEY CAN DO)
