I am convinced I have undiagnosed OCPD, but there are several traits found in this video that of which I simply cannot relate, such as the inability to throw stuff away. I can throw meaningless stuff away all the time and not even think twice about it.
I must say OCPD is a definition of "Hell in soul". You won't believe how hard it may be to deal with obsessions, fear of something going wrong, avoidance of good stuff life has to offer. Awareness can ease the pain, but sleeping issue will be worsened. What I've noticed any sort of PD does not come from nowhere. If you see such a person, most likely one of his parents has some kind of PD also. I believe the only way for a person to cure this is to become aware and have an objective to cure it.
This was wonderful - thank you! It was like you were describing my mother the whole time!
@Aspanaut - my mom is like yours, except she's also a Narcissistic Borderline, which makes her really, really scary and totally uncaring about anyone except herself. Good for you for reaching out! Keep doing that. (My nephew has Aspberger's & ADHD, so I know where you have some challenges.) I can't tell how old you are, so my best suggestion is for you yourself to see a therapist (or a school counselor if
I think all you people with personality disorders need to congregate to some other part of the world so you don't make the rest of us miserable with your dysfunction. I've worked for a borderline boss, a narcissistic boss and a OCPD boss. It was living hell. Either get to a f**kin psychiatrist or move into some isolated cave somewhere. Ego syntonic flego syntonic...you HAVE A PROBLEM...fix it.
It has caused my family significant distress to the point where my father is overweight and i wory for his health,he is very passive and not the brightest individual.I have asperger's syndrom and i beleive she uses the aspergers and flaws in my fathers character to strategically gain control and mirror her imperfections on her family members.I have never once herd my mother apologize for anything ever.
I need help.I beleive this is exactly what my mom has.Shes very anal when it comes to cleaning, she doesn't listen to anything anybody tells her. When someone insists that shes wrong, she acts as if she has been offended and puts on this act like you did something wrong for giving her advice. At times when she looses control or doesn't get her word in she turns the house upside down. There has been constant arguments involving mom everyday as far back as i can remember.
@DeityofStuff OCPD people simply don't admit they have a problem, insist it's everyone else who has a problem, and engage in incredibly emotionally cruel language/behavior to shut the party "attacking" them down. If the other person gets hurt enough to stop talking, they "win".
@jeniusjj Did this one blended with the white text: :D "The individual experiences occupational difficulties when confronted with new situations that demand flexibility and compromise."
@jeniusjj or this one: "Along with perfectionism comes relentless anxiety about not getting things perfect. Gettings things correct and avoiding at all costs the possibilities of making an error is of paramount importance."or maybe this one: "They tend to place a great deal of pressure on themselves and on others to not make mistakes."
There is a saying, unable to see the wood for the trees, at 5:24
the whole video is about it and yet you go on about everything must be perfect without mistakes
@rnk1977 That is just an innocuous comment that says nothing about standards or perfection. If someone has OCPD, he or she should be inflexible in many cases. For say, one might only consider the white text with black background to be perfect and all other backgrounds like brown, blue yellow or white imperfect. In this case, jeniusjj said it was hard to see the text because the background and the text is similar in color. That alone doesn't make him a perfectionist.
I hate being a kid with OCPD, and with some other personality disorders and being bullied, people don't know any of it is happening but they same I'm possibly wiser than most as vie been through a lot of pain and solitude. I can't believe this happens to me when I'm only 12
While I have COPD, I am not miserly, nor do I hold grudges since I think its a waste of time. Also, I can't stand that the font changes so much on this video, stuff like that drives up the wall, but i do like some of it, including adding Philip Glass who I really love. I would agree with the perfectionism stuff. I would just like someone who loves me and I can love, not a lot money but to be happy.
There is nothing wrong with having OCPD, when you realise that knowledge is power, power corrupts, corruption is a crime, crime doesn't pay, so reading this is going to make you broke.
@DKane91 Your story sounds the exact same as mine man. Im a good looking guy and I am really talented at a lot of stuff but OCPD has not allowed me to actually have a close relationship with anyone. And I have always wanted to love a girl lol! It sounds corny but thats all I really want in life.

OCPD to me is not a disorder, it is a virtue and a quality if you know your limits. My friends respect me. My Daughter does everything I require and meets all my insane high standards and perfectionism.
OCPD suferrefs are incredible talent for fine art, music and cinema (my profession). I self tought myself 4 languages and I am considered the very best ever at my job. My hourly rate is in the triple digits. No college. Thanks OCPD.
@formaset OCPD people don't suffer. It's everyone around then that suffers constant emotional abuse and verbal abuse as they monitor, monitor, monitor everything the people around them do and tell them all of their faults and imperfections, real and imagined. Embracing and praising these simply evil character traits and going on and on about themselves rather than others puts you in the norm for OCPD.
@duncreg Holy shit man! How far do you read comments? Maaannnn! You got time on your lifestyle. Just so you know, I have OCPD plus natural (non OCPD talent). Perfection and excessive cleaning is my forte. Here's the advantage: People ADMIRE my perfection and yest, i can keep all my friends without critisism. Because of my talent mixed with perfection people pay me $250.00 to $320.00/h being their primary cameraman as they know perfection will be delivered.
@mrkurtzz Subtitles don't annoy me, what annoys me is the music which attempts to project an emotion onto something which should be approached with objectivity.
The text covering the English was a bit annoying, but other than that, this video was right on point. It matched me perfectly. Now I know that there is a name for what I have been dealing with and that other people deal with it too. Thank you for this video.
My husband has OCPD, ADHD, Bipolar II Disorder, Social Anxiety and PTSD. This video has really opened my eyes up to what my husband does to me everyday. I always thought I was the one that had a problem, because I was always acussed of being wrong and he right. Thanks for posting.
My husband (now ex) has OCPD. Living with him was hell at times and almost did me in. he cant acknowledge his disorder even though he personality is exactly like that which you describe in the video, but thanks for helping to enlighten me. A burder shared etc etc... Thanks crinklycorner i gained a lot of insight reading your comments - my ex-husband and yr friend...twins
one of the best examples ,12 years ago a mutual friend dropped by with an item to repair (the item belonged to his elderly parents) , "i can fix that",my friend said,8 years later the item was still in his house, covered in dust,i threatened to throw it away,so he says "no,i'll phone them up,see if they still want it, i've been busy haven't I ?",phonecall is made,"hi do you remember me?","see, they still want it fixing ! ",they are both geriatrics in a care home now sadly. it still needs fixing.
@crinklycorner Hi stop by the website myspousehasocd com there are people sharing thier stories similar to yours it has been helpful to know i am not alone in this
the years have gone by and little has changed, now in his late forties, not married, house ever more delapidated, but fortunately the junk seems to be being kept to a reasonable level, but only because others have seen to it.
I am no longer trusted,no longer a friend it seems, its his way or the highway, only rarely did we share innermost thoughts and wishes, now he is cold and distant, through trying to help, i broke his rules, others who are more submissive now entertain him
I managed eventually to get him to throw a load of stuff away, but it was an arduous task, everything had to be scrutinised before it was allowed to be recycled, but not dumped, recycling was now his religion, and the house was freezing to keep the bills to a minimum,"its pretty obvious, everyone saves money",he'd say,as he was repairing some obsolete item,or just mumbling to himself reading newspapers that were months old.
I was told I was distracting him and interfering too much .
I was puzzled by his behaviour,i didn't stop by again for a few weeks, but saw him socially,we were good friends.
On my return, his house was really untidy,it was difficult to get into a couple of rooms,he'd got hold of lots of stuff they were throwing out at work, needless to say,the mail hadn't been opened and was piling high, kitchen in a real mess, house freezing cold but he was determined everything was ok,it was under control and he didn't really want me to do anything, but I was shocked.
i'd stop by a couple of times a week, do the dishes, sort out the junk mail, hoover the old carpets, sort out the clothes washing, etc etc,but he seemed to resent this and i couldn't understand why.
He became more resentful if I ate any of his food, never a meal, just a snack,(after 2 hours cleaning and tidying),maybe a banana or a piece of bread and jam," i've had to pay for that",he'd say,"and that means i'll have to go shopping sooner now ! ".
Things very quickly became a mess, house full of junk, piles of mail, piles of washing, piles of dirty dishes, his car left dismantled, garden overgrown, the house was barely heated, you could see your breath in every room in the winter,if you weren't tripping over the junk, yet he always seemed to have no time, always tired after work, and had hundreds of things to do ,and had lots of little lists on pieces of scrap paper here and there, things looked pretty bad,so I tried to help, tried to organize things.
knowing this person for 20 years I became concerned for him about ten years ago,he was depressed, and I was absolutely astonished he revealed one day,(when very drunk),that he was a virgin at 37 years of age ! He hated his job and it was the world that was a very bad place, most people were just idiots and ignoramuses, everyone he knew was getting married and he was still living at home, but then his mother moved out and he was on his own,and bought the house, with all its' old furnishings intact.
checkout aoc rangers's comments on bobsamurai channel...unfortunately you are a child obsessed with computer games.I wonder if you were really looking on this page by accident? there's no smoke without fire ...dude.
In public, shopping, social events etc he is polite and quiet, conforms to rules,is careful not to cause any problems, for example, littering, making a noise, using pedestrian crossings properly, doing his best not to be ignorant in any way he can and not complaining even if something is bad,(like poor food in a restaurant).
but in private, things like politics, consumerism, religion and the environment are very important, and fierce opinions abound and are voiced passionately, and his view is right !
complaining bitterly about things that are bad in the world, the way life is today, consumerism, pollution, noise, traffic, wastefulness, stupid religions and just about everything else !
Complaining yes, but never challenging any type of authority figure in public,(or private),no engagement in politics, the reasoning being people should know how to behave properly, they're all stupid, stupid stupid ...
People who are seen as inferior are treated with disinterest, almost contempt, they're just idiots.
Rarely being absent from work with illness, struggling in when most people would be in bed,but usually the last person to arrive and last to leave work.
In social situations he is always late,or desperately on the last minute, having had "no time to prepare",yet everyone else has peculiarly ! will often take toothpaste and toothbrush into venues, have a wash in the toilets, and cut fingernails, sometimes in public !
Being late so often has resulted in people not asking him to do leisure anymore.
They are submissive mostly, distant, unfriendly, never compliment people, never say thanks, impossible to please them, work late, usually "busy" and want to be left alone and blame others for distracting them when they are really procrastinating !but when excited ,they make funny noises,
sometimes tic,and pull a strange face or grimace, though usually quiet,if you add alcohol ,you can't shut them up, they are a real chatterbox ,and then say embarrasing things in social situations ! usually sexual.
they are obsessive about their own health, slight blemishes are carefully scrutinised, measurement of bloodpressure and heart rate regularly checked, but prescribed medicines by a doctor are often ignored due to the possible side effects ! hours may be spent inspecting their bodies.
Readng instructions meticulously and following them with exacting precision, amazing attention to detail and scrupulous cleanliness when repairing something, but often not putting it back together for years !
although the house is shabby and partially dismantled and very dusty and with very old furnishings,(inherited from mother),personal hygiene is a priority, showering twice a day, wearing two sets of clothes a day,two towels a day.
when socks are washed , they are turned inside out and checked closely for bits and dust, shirt collars and cuffs are pre scrubbed with washing liquid and at least one box of tissues or toilet paper is used a day,but the bins are only emptied when overflowing.
they don't want to have children, cos the world is a bad place, and try themselves to make as little impact on the planet as possible,by recycling everything, cars are a no no ,what's wrong with public transport ?
People in cars who take short cuts late at night are ignorant cos they disturb other people who are sleeping, they should stick to the main roads and really shouldn't have a car in the first place,no body needs a car, ever.
other symptoms are navel gazing, picking spots or squeezing blackheads, gazing out of the window for half an hour, muttering and mumbling to themselves and grunting replies to people when asked questions, and rarely saying the word thankyou.
Woe betide if you throw anything of theirs' away,it will result in fierce anger and you will always be labelled as the idiot who threw that thing away.
Staying up late, giving everything a priority, saving money is usually top priority, then it's "being busy" .
It is very awkward to live with someone who has this personality disorder, they are never wrong, they never make any mistakes,(they do,but will never admit it), and everyone else is an idiot or a fool .
They store junk forever, have messy houses, live alone and never finish things they start doing, because they always start doing something else !
Inside ,I think a lot of them are very sad,yet they won't seek help, other people are the problem not themselves.
@crinklycorner ,other symptoms are being miserly with money, getting the best bargain by sometimes going to extreme lengths and many weeks of research to do so.
Mending the most worn out stuff and spending a long time doing it,or just doing without something ,(a bath),for example.
They're always glad to inherit "stuff" or be given things, because waste is a sin and it might be useful some day for themselves ! in other words, collecting crap junk !
more often than not, holidays will be used to do repairs on the house at the expense of going away somewhere to have fun.
the argument being ,"why would I employ an idiot to paint my house when I can do a better job myself and save money ?".
This is why they have plenty of money, but the irony is they may start the job and do some of it immaculately, yet large portions remain rotten and a mess, those bits are on the to do list , and have been for many years and no doubt will remain so for ages.
He has taken to cutting his own hair,it saves time and money, and the barbers is never open when he's ready to go there at 10pm,and that goes for the shops too, they're always closed when he wants to go to them.He enjoys subsidised meals at work, and working late saves money on lighting and heating bills too !
He has a fascination with communism, never sings or whistles or dances, and buys the same type of clothes over and over again, and foodstuffs, receipts for small sums are kept for many years.
I also married a man with OCPD and spent 13 years trying to support him In the end he was always "right" and I was always "wrong" and abuse got too much to bear....so before our kids ended up feeling like complete failures, I left.
It was a long suffering marriage and i wish i'd looked into this earlier. It was'nt till after I finally saw a psych thinking I was the one with the problem that we realised I did have a problem, but he had the disorder.
@kazwilbur Just be thankful you had the strength to get out at all. OCPD monsters (only we who deal with them are the "victims") often find people who are very passive to be their spouses so they can control them. My father never left my OCPD mother and she made him miserable up until he only had three months to live. I wish to heck my father had left her and taken my brother and I with him.
@NanetteUT He wont admit his disorder even though he personality is exactly like that which you describe in the video, but thanks for helping to enlighten me. A burder shared etc etc... thanks for web address.
@kazwilbur And he never will or if he does he will minimize the degree of the illness and even then it is not an illness for them they have justification for everything that is done. glad you went to myspousehasocd com - i am in the process of trying to simplify the forum there. one thing i am learning is you have to separate the illness from the actual person. you hate the illness but you love the person that is not easy to do though but it really seems to be helping me.
@DKane91 unfortunetly i think i have to tell you welcome to the club, there are some things in this video that (i think) explains in a very logical way my reactions to some things of my personality (which include like you, personal relationships)
this sounds awfully familiar to me (about myself), however there are some simptoms i don't have (or at least i think i don't have), should i go to a doctor or a shrink or something? at first i thought it was OCD, but this is far more accurate for me.
Couldn't you have made the text in the video the same font on each slide, move the same speed, and come in to view in the same fashion? Seriously, it drove me nuts enough that I paused the video, let it load, and slowly scanned forward to read it so I wouldn't lose my mind.
why slow scanning?! why don't you just click on the video - it makes video to stop :D BTW same font, same speed, same fashion etc seems too much as OCPD symptom to me ;-)
I think that the way the world is these days everyone carries a problem of one degree or another. I'm sure there is truth in at least one of these sentences for everyone that they can relate too. Just be careful you don't pick that one thing out and convince yourself you have the whole problem..
Great video by the way, well constructed and portrayed, 5 *'s
it's probably the best video on You Tube I have watched. It shows us all the truth about OCPD. If you have any symptoms contact a doctor as fast as possible.
As I was watching this, I thought, "This sounds familiar," especially the last slide, which made me think, "Life is not to be enjoyed. It is to be endured."
yeah, "to enjoy life in general".. i had a dream after i read and made that vid. in my dream, it was somewhere faraway by the sea or in mountains, and people were sitting in open bar caffe and making conversation, laughing and enjoying themselves and i was looking them, in dream i was aware that i'm in some kind of bubble of thoughts and worry, and not enjoying life like they do.. well, after that dream, i started to make more small talk at the job and take more time for it..
the paradox is that the psychopaths has risen to the rank of psychologists! shitheads like you would blame normal people to be sick only to eliminate them from society.. it's no wonder why chaos happens so often these days
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
:o WHAT THE FUCK?!....... you're all fucking mad-at-the-head if you can believe this shit.. "their overall style of relating to the world around them is processed thru their own strict standards" wtf does this mean!... i was shocked when i seen this because somehow i feel it has something to do with me. and yes i do have some moral principles, i hate to see injustice around me and when it happens i act! i try to educate people! and you'd call me crazy for this..
It is fun to watch other people fight about stupid stuff that I myself don't care about. I don't watch TV anymore. I manage to entertain myself by watching my cousin bicker with his mother. There is nothing more entertaining than watching obsessive people bicker. By the way, I am not arrogant. I am simply aloof.
People with obsessive qualities tend to end up marrying other people with obsessive qualities. Then they end up breaking up. My OCPD cousin married an OCD wife. For a while, they lived in the same house with my OCPD aunt. Now, that's what I call a mad house. I predicted the result beforehand. I saw from the outside what they couldn't see from the inside. It's so funny.
In order to begin treatment in the first place, the individual has to acknowledge he/she has a problem. It's like the first step in a 12 step problem. Even if there was effective treatment available, chances are, the individual can not get past step 1: therefore, it is a lost cause. I have more sympathy for people with OCD because they are aware that there is something wrong. OCPD on the other hand, they think that everyone around is wrong. People with OCPD are unrepentent offenders.
People with OCPD don't even realize they are suffering. The family members, friends, and co-workers are the ones who suffer. Ex-communicating people with OCPD is the only way to relieve the suffering, since there is no treatment or cure for OCPD it's a lost cause. Just dump them!
You know, it's sad but true in most cases. These people cant see past themselves. They are experts in arguing to boot if you try to tell them. I had a girlfriend like that she was and is a wonderful woman. However, I just couldn't take the constant nitpicking, of all "my" flaws, I had to let her go. Actually I told her to let me go. So sad....
mmmm not being perfect is better , and allow yourself to feel suffering makes the suffering end because and it teaches to create a more helping belief about someting "wrong" .... so that bad thing isn't so bad after all , and you feel better about a situation... thats progress
everything has to be perfect ...thats america right now .... just like germany .... well ok , the american cars are not perfect ... but german and Japanese are .... ring a bell .... wich countries where fascistic 40 years ago ..... downside is that perfectionistic people project out all theire own bad qualities on jews or some other group...and just kill them ....
It's not that being clean and morally correct are BAD things, it's that OCPDers demand that everything be perfect at all times, or they cannot function.
For example, my OCPD husband will not help me put our kids to bed because their rooms are not spotless 24/7. It freaks him out to be in a room that isn't spotless. And in order to try to force me to keep our house spotless at all times, he resorts to emotional abuse. He yells, calls us names, and gets violent.
And btw, i totally with you skatenrock94, that the world shouldn't see it as bad--we should ALL try to make less mistakes. but unfortunately, society is obsessed with Type B, "chill" people, which inherently means that the rest of us are "freaks" for wanting to keep things clean, organized, and morally upright.
what do you mean, how is it a disorder? it's crazy hard to live with. you just want the people around you to be clean, and organized, and considerate, and everyone constantly disappoints you. especially in a college-like environment (ditto, larirong), you want so badly to let go and be "chill" like everyone else, but you can't! i
Everything written here, every single sentence, I could relate to. It is comforting to know that the cause of all my distress and extreme stress was a disorder and not myself. I have had OCPD for all my life and never knew where the problem lied when I encountered all these problems... the exact same problems. As a college student, having OCPD is definitely traumatizing but I guess I will have to deal with it somehow. Thanks for the video
Great video. I recently dated someone for a long period of time who was dianosed with Obsessive-specific OCD, but I was always more convinced that it was OCPD as Obsessive-specific OCD is a very rare type of OCD, and OCPD captured his behaviour and attitudes much more vividly. Thanks for putting this video out there!
Is admitting to all of you how well this video describes me a sign of OCPD? This video answers and brings up alot of questions. I'm gonna show this video to my therapist. Thank you very much.
odd; the funny thing is - the answers are in this video. it's just your mind not allowing you to digest it well. for example - even though i made this video ie copy/pasted text, translated it to another language - i was surprised to see the very thing that is the core with OCPD and my recent problem at job - that "i am afraid to be wrong",, if only i remembered that earlier when problem occured! i keep forgeting these relieving facts as life goes on! :D
@rnk1977 Yeh one of the tendencies recently got ma in alot of trouble and as such i worked backwards and analysed the situation(like we do) and found i was at fault and it was such an obvious thing i did wrong.i really want to change myself and really do watch what i do now, because i would rather live a balanced life tbh rather than one trying to reach perfection all the bloody time.
WoW. An absolutely beautiful video it is that you have presented. The enchanting music makes it even better! Could you please tell me what music is playing? It really calms me, so it must be "perfect"! haha ; )
Anyway, I have been recently diagnosed with this disorder. To my misfortune, my previous doctor had miscorrectly diagnosed me with OCD for 11 years. I was shocked to discover that. I am curious to ask. Are you a student, or are you an aspiring psychologist.? I would love to know! = )
music is "Metamorphosis Two" by Philip Glass. yeah, i think that a lot of doctors have trouble with diagnosis since they never experience any disorder for themselves!
:D
i'm not student nor doctor.. i made psychological test over internet and ocpd was in my top 3 so it gave me inspiration to put 'em on you tube to keep me focused :D
Therapist had no clue about this or any personality disorder 10 years ago. How can we know that the complete knowledge present today is enough to understand it? And anyway, isn't one of the traits to understand it completly and perfectly, part of that same disorder?
It is so scary on how well all of these different citations from different websites described me. There are some traits that I mildly exhibit, while others I burden myself with on a daily basis. Especially the details of the compulsive need for control, just on Sunday I had 2 different anxiety attacks just because I felt I lost complete control of my department at work.
Well at least I have something more definitive to talk about with my psychologist on the 2nd.
This is pretty vague and could probably confuse people who suffer from OCD when in fact OCPD and OCD are not as related as their names make them sound. I noticed that the Wikipedia articles do not help this situation either.
OCPD is often seen in people like medical professionals who push themselves hard to be responsible, follow the rules, get things right, etc.
There are probably enough anecdotes out there to describe people who suffer from plain OCD.

Why the sad music?
I am convinced I have undiagnosed OCPD, but there are several traits found in this video that of which I simply cannot relate, such as the inability to throw stuff away. I can throw meaningless stuff away all the time and not even think twice about it.

The situation is dire,to the point were depression seems contagious and home seems a dreadful place to be yet it is the only place to go.
It seems as my mother ages, she is becoming delusional,it could be the meds she takes, but im unsure
I live in Boca Raton,FL
If anyone has anything;people, numbers,or advice on how to handle this.
It would be more than appreciated

@DeityofStuff OCPD people simply don't admit they have a problem, insist it's everyone else who has a problem, and engage in incredibly emotionally cruel language/behavior to shut the party "attacking" them down. If the other person gets hurt enough to stop talking, they "win".

Haha... It was hard making sense of some of the text as it was blending in with the background.
jeniusjj 6 months ago
@jeniusjj blending or your own strict standards that everything must be perfect?
rnk1977 6 months ago
@rnk1977 Nope; the white background area blends in with the white text. So I can't make sense of some of it.
jeniusjj 6 months ago
@jeniusjj Did this one blended with the white text: :D "The individual experiences occupational difficulties when confronted with new situations that demand flexibility and compromise."
rnk1977 6 months ago
@jeniusjj or this one: "Along with perfectionism comes relentless anxiety about not getting things perfect. Gettings things correct and avoiding at all costs the possibilities of making an error is of paramount importance."or maybe this one: "They tend to place a great deal of pressure on themselves and on others to not make mistakes."
There is a saying, unable to see the wood for the trees, at 5:24

rnk1977 6 months ago
@rnk1977 That is just an innocuous comment that says nothing about standards or perfection. If someone has OCPD, he or she should be inflexible in many cases. For say, one might only consider the white text with black background to be perfect and all other backgrounds like brown, blue yellow or white imperfect. In this case, jeniusjj said it was hard to see the text because the background and the text is similar in color. That alone doesn't make him a perfectionist.
ZeroxLim 4 months ago
@ZeroxLim nah, it's scholarly example that everything must be perfect.

I have OCPD, and this video was quite informative. :)
Reading the below comments make me uncomfortable. haha

No college. Thanks OCPD.
formaset 1 year ago
@formaset OCPD people don't suffer. It's everyone around then that suffers constant emotional abuse and verbal abuse as they monitor, monitor, monitor everything the people around them do and tell them all of their faults and imperfections, real and imagined. Embracing and praising these simply evil character traits and going on and on about themselves rather than others puts you in the norm for OCPD.
duncreg 6 months ago
@duncreg Holy shit man! How far do you read comments? Maaannnn! You got time on your lifestyle. Just so you know, I have OCPD plus natural (non OCPD talent). Perfection and excessive cleaning is my forte. Here's the advantage: People ADMIRE my perfection and yest, i can keep all my friends without critisism. Because of my talent mixed with perfection people pay me $250.00 to $320.00/h being their primary cameraman as they know perfection will be delivered.

one of the best examples ,12 years ago a mutual friend dropped by with an item to repair (the item belonged to his elderly parents) , "i can fix that",my friend said,8 years later the item was still in his house, covered in dust,i threatened to throw it away,so he says "no,i'll phone them up,see if they still want it, i've been busy haven't I ?",phonecall is made,"hi do you remember me?","see, they still want it fixing ! ",they are both geriatrics in a care home now sadly. it still needs fixing.

@crinklycorner Hi stop by the website myspousehasocd com there are people sharing thier stories similar to yours it has been helpful to know i am not alone in this
NanetteUT 1 year ago 2
the years have gone by and little has changed, now in his late forties, not married, house ever more delapidated, but fortunately the junk seems to be being kept to a reasonable level, but only because others have seen to it.
I am no longer trusted,no longer a friend it seems, its his way or the highway, only rarely did we share innermost thoughts and wishes, now he is cold and distant, through trying to help, i broke his rules, others who are more submissive now entertain him
his character is unchanged
crinklycorner 2 years ago
I managed eventually to get him to throw a load of stuff away, but it was an arduous task, everything had to be scrutinised before it was allowed to be recycled, but not dumped, recycling was now his religion, and the house was freezing to keep the bills to a minimum,"its pretty obvious, everyone saves money",he'd say,as he was repairing some obsolete item,or just mumbling to himself reading newspapers that were months old.
I was told I was distracting him and interfering too much .
crinklycorner 2 years ago
I was puzzled by his behaviour,i didn't stop by again for a few weeks, but saw him socially,we were good friends.
On my return, his house was really untidy,it was difficult to get into a couple of rooms,he'd got hold of lots of stuff they were throwing out at work, needless to say,the mail hadn't been opened and was piling high, kitchen in a real mess, house freezing cold but he was determined everything was ok,it was under control and he didn't really want me to do anything, but I was shocked.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
i'd stop by a couple of times a week, do the dishes, sort out the junk mail, hoover the old carpets, sort out the clothes washing, etc etc,but he seemed to resent this and i couldn't understand why.
He became more resentful if I ate any of his food, never a meal, just a snack,(after 2 hours cleaning and tidying),maybe a banana or a piece of bread and jam," i've had to pay for that",he'd say,"and that means i'll have to go shopping sooner now ! ".
crinklycorner 2 years ago

In public, shopping, social events etc he is polite and quiet, conforms to rules,is careful not to cause any problems, for example, littering, making a noise, using pedestrian crossings properly, doing his best not to be ignorant in any way he can and not complaining even if something is bad,(like poor food in a restaurant).
but in private, things like politics, consumerism, religion and the environment are very important, and fierce opinions abound and are voiced passionately, and his view is right !
crinklycorner 2 years ago
complaining bitterly about things that are bad in the world, the way life is today, consumerism, pollution, noise, traffic, wastefulness, stupid religions and just about everything else !
Complaining yes, but never challenging any type of authority figure in public,(or private),no engagement in politics, the reasoning being people should know how to behave properly, they're all stupid, stupid stupid ...
People who are seen as inferior are treated with disinterest, almost contempt, they're just idiots.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
Rarely being absent from work with illness, struggling in when most people would be in bed,but usually the last person to arrive and last to leave work.
In social situations he is always late,or desperately on the last minute, having had "no time to prepare",yet everyone else has peculiarly ! will often take toothpaste and toothbrush into venues, have a wash in the toilets, and cut fingernails, sometimes in public !
Being late so often has resulted in people not asking him to do leisure anymore.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
They are submissive mostly, distant, unfriendly, never compliment people, never say thanks, impossible to please them, work late, usually "busy" and want to be left alone and blame others for distracting them when they are really procrastinating !but when excited ,they make funny noises,
sometimes tic,and pull a strange face or grimace, though usually quiet,if you add alcohol ,you can't shut them up, they are a real chatterbox ,and then say embarrasing things in social situations ! usually sexual.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
they are obsessive about their own health, slight blemishes are carefully scrutinised, measurement of bloodpressure and heart rate regularly checked, but prescribed medicines by a doctor are often ignored due to the possible side effects ! hours may be spent inspecting their bodies.
Readng instructions meticulously and following them with exacting precision, amazing attention to detail and scrupulous cleanliness when repairing something, but often not putting it back together for years !
crinklycorner 2 years ago
although the house is shabby and partially dismantled and very dusty and with very old furnishings,(inherited from mother),personal hygiene is a priority, showering twice a day, wearing two sets of clothes a day,two towels a day.
when socks are washed , they are turned inside out and checked closely for bits and dust, shirt collars and cuffs are pre scrubbed with washing liquid and at least one box of tissues or toilet paper is used a day,but the bins are only emptied when overflowing.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
they don't want to have children, cos the world is a bad place, and try themselves to make as little impact on the planet as possible,by recycling everything, cars are a no no ,what's wrong with public transport ?
People in cars who take short cuts late at night are ignorant cos they disturb other people who are sleeping, they should stick to the main roads and really shouldn't have a car in the first place,no body needs a car, ever.
IGNORANT is their favourite adjective.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
They've usually got plenty of money too !
But they won't spend it and end up living in what most people would call a scruffy old delapidated house full of dusty junk.
They fantasise massively about sex yet remain virgins well into their thirties ! they even offer to pay for sex.
I doubt the males ever usually marry, god help their wives if they do,very difficult for you, very frustrating.
crinklycorner 2 years ago
other symptoms are navel gazing, picking spots or squeezing blackheads, gazing out of the window for half an hour, muttering and mumbling to themselves and grunting replies to people when asked questions, and rarely saying the word thankyou.
Woe betide if you throw anything of theirs' away,it will result in fierce anger and you will always be labelled as the idiot who threw that thing away.
Staying up late, giving everything a priority, saving money is usually top priority, then it's "being busy" .
crinklycorner 2 years ago
It is very awkward to live with someone who has this personality disorder, they are never wrong, they never make any mistakes,(they do,but will never admit it), and everyone else is an idiot or a fool .
They store junk forever, have messy houses, live alone and never finish things they start doing, because they always start doing something else !
Inside ,I think a lot of them are very sad,yet they won't seek help, other people are the problem not themselves.
few true ocpd will ever read this !
crinklycorner 2 years ago
@crinklycorner ,other symptoms are being miserly with money, getting the best bargain by sometimes going to extreme lengths and many weeks of research to do so.
Mending the most worn out stuff and spending a long time doing it,or just doing without something ,(a bath),for example.
They're always glad to inherit "stuff" or be given things, because waste is a sin and it might be useful some day for themselves ! in other words, collecting crap junk !
crinklycorner 2 years ago
more often than not, holidays will be used to do repairs on the house at the expense of going away somewhere to have fun.
the argument being ,"why would I employ an idiot to paint my house when I can do a better job myself and save money ?".
This is why they have plenty of money, but the irony is they may start the job and do some of it immaculately, yet large portions remain rotten and a mess, those bits are on the to do list , and have been for many years and no doubt will remain so for ages.
crinklycorner 2 years ago

It was'nt till after I finally saw a psych thinking I was the one with the problem that we realised I did have a problem, but he had the disorder.
kazwilbur 1 year ago
@kazwilbur Just be thankful you had the strength to get out at all. OCPD monsters (only we who deal with them are the "victims") often find people who are very passive to be their spouses so they can control them. My father never left my OCPD mother and she made him miserable up until he only had three months to live. I wish to heck my father had left her and taken my brother and I with him.

@kazwilbur And he never will or if he does he will minimize the degree of the illness and even then it is not an illness for them they have justification for everything that is done. glad you went to myspousehasocd com - i am in the process of trying to simplify the forum there. one thing i am learning is you have to separate the illness from the actual person. you hate the illness but you love the person that is not easy to do though but it really seems to be helping me.

this sounds awfully familiar to me (about myself), however there are some simptoms i don't have (or at least i think i don't have), should i go to a doctor or a shrink or something? at first i thought it was OCD, but this is far more accurate for me.

Couldn't you have made the text in the video the same font on each slide, move the same speed, and come in to view in the same fashion? Seriously, it drove me nuts enough that I paused the video, let it load, and slowly scanned forward to read it so I wouldn't lose my mind.
jd7034 2 years ago 3
why slow scanning?! why don't you just click on the video - it makes video to stop :D BTW same font, same speed, same fashion etc seems too much as OCPD symptom to me ;-)

yeah, "to enjoy life in general".. i had a dream after i read and made that vid. in my dream, it was somewhere faraway by the sea or in mountains, and people were sitting in open bar caffe and making conversation, laughing and enjoying themselves and i was looking them, in dream i was aware that i'm in some kind of bubble of thoughts and worry, and not enjoying life like they do.. well, after that dream, i started to make more small talk at the job and take more time for it..

It is fun to watch other people fight about stupid stuff that I myself don't care about. I don't watch TV anymore. I manage to entertain myself by watching my cousin bicker with his mother. There is nothing more entertaining than watching obsessive people bicker. By the way, I am not arrogant. I am simply aloof.
nobleheight 2 years ago
People with obsessive qualities tend to end up marrying other people with obsessive qualities. Then they end up breaking up. My OCPD cousin married an OCD wife. For a while, they lived in the same house with my OCPD aunt. Now, that's what I call a mad house. I predicted the result beforehand. I saw from the outside what they couldn't see from the inside. It's so funny.
nobleheight 2 years ago
In order to begin treatment in the first place, the individual has to acknowledge he/she has a problem. It's like the first step in a 12 step problem. Even if there was effective treatment available, chances are, the individual can not get past step 1: therefore, it is a lost cause. I have more sympathy for people with OCD because they are aware that there is something wrong. OCPD on the other hand, they think that everyone around is wrong. People with OCPD are unrepentent offenders.
nobleheight 2 years ago
People with OCPD don't even realize they are suffering. The family members, friends, and co-workers are the ones who suffer. Ex-communicating people with OCPD is the only way to relieve the suffering, since there is no treatment or cure for OCPD it's a lost cause. Just dump them!
nobleheight 2 years ago
You know, it's sad but true in most cases. These people cant see past themselves. They are experts in arguing to boot if you try to tell them. I had a girlfriend like that she was and is a wonderful woman. However, I just couldn't take the constant nitpicking, of all "my" flaws, I had to let her go. Actually I told her to let me go. So sad....
selffless1 2 years ago
mmmm not being perfect is better , and allow yourself to feel suffering makes the suffering end because and it teaches to create a more helping belief about someting "wrong" .... so that bad thing isn't so bad after all , and you feel better about a situation... thats progress
rien515 2 years ago
everything has to be perfect ...thats america right now .... just like germany .... well ok , the american cars are not perfect ... but german and Japanese are .... ring a bell .... wich countries where fascistic 40 years ago ..... downside is that perfectionistic people project out all theire own bad qualities on jews or some other group...and just kill them ....
rien515 2 years ago
well since we reach our children not to admit mistakes and punish them , how can they become honest ? and give that space to others...
rien515 2 years ago
It's not that being clean and morally correct are BAD things, it's that OCPDers demand that everything be perfect at all times, or they cannot function.
For example, my OCPD husband will not help me put our kids to bed because their rooms are not spotless 24/7. It freaks him out to be in a room that isn't spotless. And in order to try to force me to keep our house spotless at all times, he resorts to emotional abuse. He yells, calls us names, and gets violent.
THAT is why it's a disorder.
soozeeszu 2 years ago 2
And btw, i totally with you skatenrock94, that the world shouldn't see it as bad--we should ALL try to make less mistakes. but unfortunately, society is obsessed with Type B, "chill" people, which inherently means that the rest of us are "freaks" for wanting to keep things clean, organized, and morally upright.
piratequeenofbc 2 years ago
what do you mean, how is it a disorder? it's crazy hard to live with. you just want the people around you to be clean, and organized, and considerate, and everyone constantly disappoints you. especially in a college-like environment (ditto, larirong), you want so badly to let go and be "chill" like everyone else, but you can't!

OddlandAst 2 years ago
odd; the funny thing is - the answers are in this video. it's just your mind not allowing you to digest it well. for example - even though i made this video ie copy/pasted text, translated it to another language - i was surprised to see the very thing that is the core with OCPD and my recent problem at job - that "i am afraid to be wrong",, if only i remembered that earlier when problem occured! i keep forgeting these relieving facts as life goes on! :D
rnk1977 2 years ago
@rnk1977 Yeh one of the tendencies recently got ma in alot of trouble and as such i worked backwards and analysed the situation(like we do) and found i was at fault and it was such an obvious thing i did wrong.i really want to change myself and really do watch what i do now, because i would rather live a balanced life tbh rather than one trying to reach perfection all the bloody time.
hutchy411 1 year ago
ponyrunswild 3 years ago
music is "Metamorphosis Two" by Philip Glass. yeah, i think that a lot of doctors have trouble with diagnosis since they never experience any disorder for themselves!

i'm not student nor doctor.. i made psychological test over internet and ocpd was in my top 3 so it gave me inspiration to put 'em on you tube to keep me focused :D

Michael1076 3 years ago
Therapist had no clue about this or any personality disorder 10 years ago. How can we know that the complete knowledge present today is enough to understand it? And anyway, isn't one of the traits to understand it completly and perfectly, part of that same disorder?
rnk1977 3 years ago
It is so scary on how well all of these different citations from different websites described me. There are some traits that I mildly exhibit, while others I burden myself with on a daily basis. Especially the details of the compulsive need for control, just on Sunday I had 2 different anxiety attacks just because I felt I lost complete control of my department at work.
Well at least I have something more definitive to talk about with my psychologist on the 2nd.
eddiec3003 3 years ago
This is pretty vague and could probably confuse people who suffer from OCD when in fact OCPD and OCD are not as related as their names make them sound. I noticed that the Wikipedia articles do not help this situation either.
OCPD is often seen in people like medical professionals who push themselves hard to be responsible, follow the rules, get things right, etc.
There are probably enough anecdotes out there to describe people who suffer from plain OCD.
