@DogAteMySticks first off, if you did enough research, you would know that lars ulrich was actually the revs first influence. however, he then became OBSESSED with portnoy. he incorporated many elements of portnoy's playing style into his own. you cant say you wouldnt have a rev without a portnoy, because then rev wouldve played like lars (as much as i love metallica, lars isnt that good). you can compare rev to portnoy, because remember: sometimes the apprentice becomes better than the master.

I like some a7x, and im a drummer, i like the way that the rev played. but face it, he was not the best drummer out there, sure he was very good but nowhere near the best. he's always in my top ten but not the first for the simple reason that some other drummers are better. for example, george kollias. he plays extreme death metal, but he can also play anything he wants to. the rev was very good, but not the best.
