  • Rachel or as I like to call her "Robert" is just like every other liberal. They all prey on emotions instead of facts. Ever wonder why almost NONE of these liberal anchors/media pundtis/hosts have ratings anywhere near Fox News? Simple...they all forget that the core of America consist of hard working, middle class folks that can see through their emotion-driven spin on anything news worthy. At leats Obama will be gone in November!

  • Mother Nature wins. Humans lose. That will be the final score.

  • It's so obvious that in over thirty years nothing has changed, so how can anyone watch this clip and still say it's mostly the presidents fault? Shouldn't the oil companies, have learned a lesson? 1979-present and all they did was change the name from operation sombrero to operation top hat. The actual reason why this kinda stuff happens is so deep that no one person is responsible. period.

  • she looks like an ellen degeneres of news, and she also kicks ass!

  • Just goes to show that the more things change, the more they stay the same. What didn't work then won't work now; and likely not in the future. Profits will always come before precaution in the corporate world. So you know another disaster is just waiting to happen. This video should be an awakening for future generations.

  • THE OIL SPILL IS STUIPED

  • HOW WILL THEY GET OUT THE OIL

  • it not toxic duuuuu!

  • is there a big hole in the gulf of mexico

  • no!

  • reading through the comments, Octoberboy, you're fucking retarded, please for the love of whatever you hold dear, respond to me with your bullshit, i'll make your ass cry through simple text, if you agree with this guy, fuck you too!

  • is it toxic.

  • not a coincidence: IXTOC is an anagram of TOXIC

  • chx3hdr

I appreciate your efforts to assist the morale of those on the gulf coast, but they know what their in for already.

  • I'm guessing they are going to blame the 1979 spill on George W Bush too!!!

  • Does anyone remember 1979??? The same type oil well leak occured, the leak went on for 9 MONTHS before relief wells were finished, don't allow the Crisis Masters of Obama and his Democrudic Filth pass any Carbon Tax scams on the American Sheeple, protest now!!!! We have been through this before, we will get through this!!!!

  • @szman167 You dont learn do you...

  • @szman167

Yeah except for the fact that more of the Gulf Coasts economy is based on the seas and beaches than frosbiten Alaska's ass ever has, or ever will be.

Not to forget that it's the worst spill EVAR!!!

  • Wow.

I cannot believe she tried to draw a simile between an oil well release that let out 30,000 barrels of oil a day and one that's currently letting out over 2 million per day.

But it's not like those zeroes MEAN anything...

  • @PeterDivine Ixtoc realeased 30,000 barrels of oil = 1,260,000 million gallons per day. BP capture's 21,780 barrels of oil = 915,000 gallons per day. Thats only what they capture, imagine how much is actually spilled. The spills are relative in size and comparable. Except Ixtoc spill occured in 160' of water and close to shore. While BP is in 5000' of water and 50 miles from shore.

  • I find it dumbfounding that this women ended her "newscast" by saying the oil companies made it worse by drilling is such deep water!!!!! Am I in the Twilight Zone???? It was the Environmentalist lobby that forced oil companies further and further off shore! She acts as if oil companies want to drill off shore... We have untapped resources in ANWR but the tree hugger lobby won't allow it... Typical limousine liberal that uses the energy that her and her ilk demonize!!!

  • @imax1971: LOL............I'm no environmentalist, but the oil companies really were mostly to blame...........but of course, the super-corporate fascists don't want us to think for ourselves. =)

  • @MiracleMileV8 Corporate fascists??? You're a fucking idiot..

  • @imax1971: LOL, I wish..........but unlike the 'KGB takeover'{read: Red Scare} or 'Marxist Obama' fantasies, what I have said actually has some truth to it.

  • @MiracleMileV8 Stick to muscle cars. What you have said is idiotic.... Corporate fascists??? Get a life asshole. You sound like one gigantic jackass!

  • @aranelinya

Maddow always provides facts, not just this time.

  • but this time we are watching this on HDTV, and the colors are amazing.Oh and this time we have twitter & FB, Thousand of Instant Reporters all up and down the Gulf, and this time we may all die unlike last time when we all survived. ok that was Madcow sarcasm

  • UMMM... VP Cheney and Pres. Bush have been out of office for 15 months. Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006 and could have re-written the rules. The oil rig started drilling in February 2010 and Obama took over in January 2009 so his administration has been approving all of the permits and inspections for the last 15 months of the drilling/planning and has approved and given thumbs up at every inspection for the past 15 months. It's not Bush's fault. Sorry to burst your bubble!

  • @aranelinya - Rachel "Madcow" Maddow is a bleeding heart tree hugging liberal and ends her comparison by saying that the oil companies have decided to drill in deep water as if it's something they wanted to do... which is utter nonsense. It's her and her comrades in Washington, DC that have forced companies to drill in deep water by making it illegal to drill in easy land areas, like ANWR, Alaska, which probably has 10X more oil than the Gulf Of Mexico.

  • This isn't even close to the current oil spill. Ixtoc was 160ft deep. This one just over 5,000ft.

  • God bliss amurka

  • @aranelinya Very well said. This crisis is beyond any single political party. They've got to band together in true unity to not only solve this problem, but prevent it from happening again.

  • isn't the water in Mexico still fucked up..... 31 years later?

  • idiot brits blaming it on us but its THEIR company

  • @iTzTEAMKILLER

But the Federal government did nothing.

  • SAME SHIPPING COMPANY as this time... this is an outrage... I seriously think we need to get really angry with BP... america as a whole needs to stand up and do something about this...

  • @octoberboiy - The bulk of the blame lies with Barack Hussein Obama's failure to respond appropriately to the disaster. See my series of blog articles about the BP spill by clicking on my name and then clicking on the top link in my bulletins section.

  • @lennyvasbinder NO IT DOES NOT... John McCain was the main one who was so eager for off shore drilling... and the oil leak is totaly BP's fault. as a multi-billionare company they need to spend at least a million to fix the mess. This has nothing to do with our tax payer dollars. And im getting tired of ignorant people who blame the government for everything.

  • @octoberboiy - I think I need Gleen Beck's book, "Arguing With Idiots". Yes, JM supported offshore drilling, as do I but SO DID OBAMA. Further, it was his administration with his political appointments running MMS that approved the TransOcean/BP rig and drilling permits at every stage of the process, giving it a BIG THUMBS UP just 2 weeks before the explosion. Then Obama FAILED to accept foreign help or do everything possible with our own assets. U said, "spend at least a million" LOL

  • @lennyvasbinder I SAID... BP needs to spend at least a million... and yes reluctantly Obama did allow off shore drilling... but that does not make him Finacially responsible. BP is rich enough to pay for the damage entirely... We do not need Foriegn help for something that can easily be fixed by the company responsible.

  • @octoberboiy - You really are pathetically ignorant. It's almost a shame. BP has alread spend hundreds of millions of dollars and has set up a trust fund in the amount of TWENTY BILLION DOLLARS. Please note that a billion is a thousand million so the trust fund is currently set at TWENTY THOUSAND MILLION DOLLARS. How you can say they "needs to spend at least a million" shows just how uninformed you are. As far as why we DO need foreign aid and is using it now, go to my blog and read/watch.

  • @lennyvasbinder If Twenty Billion Dollars has been spent, as you claim, then why WOULD WE NEED Foriegn AID... and when i said at least a million, that was a figure of speech. And by the way... if BP set up a trust fund with that much, yet the job still isn't completed, then why is EVERYONE BLAMING OBAMA... clearly BP is not spending ALL THAT MONEY on a good solution.

  • @octoberboiy We NEED and are NOW GETTING foreign assistance because WE DO NOT have the skimming capabilities needed. Other countries have skimmers that can handle TEN TIMES TO FIFTY TIMES the capacity that our skimmers can handle so they can spend more time sucking up oil instead of transporting it back and forth to the shore or a holding vessel. Have you read any of my well-referenced blog articles. You really need to. Further, OBAMA intentionally turned away help for the first 8 weeks.

  • @lennyvasbinder The problem with american's today is they complain and complain about the president raising taxes and when something like this happens... they blame the president for not spending to fix the problem... IF YOU DON"T WANT YOUR TAXES TO RAISE THEN MAKE SURE BP FIXES THIS PROBLEM ALONE... STOP BLAMING THE PRESIDENT FOR EVERYTHING

  • @octoberboiy Don't you think government gets enough money already? They need to start cutting their waste and wasteful programs... like all the bailouts and stimulus plans that haven't done squat. These other countries offered help AT NO CHARGE because they know we needed it and because we always help other countries but DUMBAMA turned it down for his own ASININE reasons... see my blog articles at LennyVasbinder.blogspot.com for more info.

  • @lennyvasbinder Actually in case you havn't noticed, but the downfall of jobs has ended since 09... The rates are actually going up so the stimulus package HAS WORKED. Second of all... I thought that conservatives preferred america to stay Independant... THIRD of all... the "wasteful programs" as you call it, are just as equal as other programs we had before: Public School systems, Libraries...ect all under taxpayer dollars. If you ask me America was already socialistic

  • @octoberboiy Unemployment rates are still near 10% when Obama promised America that the rate would not go over 8% when he pushed the Spendulus package on people... a majority of whom did not agree with it.. only his fellow socialists in Congress who just love to spend other people's money. Conservatives do like to be independent but when Obama got on the air back in May, nearly a month after the spill started and blamed Bush, he opened the door for the truth to come out that O. was at fault.

  • @lennyvasbinder There is a graph on thewashingtonmonthly archives that shows a change in employment from the Bush administration and the Obama administration. Once it hits Jan 2010 the graph shows a positive raise in employment. Check it out for yourself...

  • @octoberboiy Give a link next time... do you know what a link is?

  • @lennyvasbinder Links are not allowed on youtube anymore dummy. Did you know that?

  • @lennyvasbinder I did that and it still doesnt work... i'll send it to u as a comment on your page

  • @octoberboiy And as far as your referencing Public School Systems.. you just won my argument. Public Schools are mostly a pathetic goverment program that spends over $10,000 per student per year and turns out a bunch of dummies... with you being the perfect example. Thank you for making my case!

  • @lennyvasbinder I surprised to hear you say this... do you mean to tell me you would prefer paying for tuition on your own. That means ending all government paid types of College finacial aid, such as Pell grants and FAFSA. And all public schools. You would prefer to pay your Children's tuition all thier lives. Are your children currently enrolled in Private School?

And if you hate public Schools then you must hate Firefighters Police and Ambulance services, because they are under tax dollars.

  • @octoberboiy So, you are admitting you are a socialist and that you expect other people to pay for everything you cannot afford yourself because you or your family did not save for it? Do you have a cell phone? Big screen TV? Cable TV and internet? Do you have a new car... or multiple cars in your family? Get rid of all of your excesses and if you are truly poor, then I don't have a problem with government grants and loans but everyone has to learn to pay their own way!

  • @lennyvasbinder What you are saying is very stupid... they way we live today is totaly dependant on our government. Tax payer dollars pave the way for laws and businesses that protect us whether through food saftey, or making laws for businesses not to cheat us or mistreat us, or even the Judicial System that enforces the law. If all of these were removed America would fall apart. Im not saying we need to rely on the government for everything, i'm just saying that for America to exist tax exists

  • @octoberboiy Maybe you and your family are "totally dependent on goverment" but the majority of Americans just want goverment off of our backs and out of our pockets. Politicians/bureaucracies are the biggest waste of money known to man. Read books about government waste. There's a website, Citizens Against Govt. Waste, that would be a good place for you to start. Stossel and others on Fox News Channel also do regular segments on govt. waste. Why can't govt's balance their budgets?

  • @octoberboiy As far as Firefighters and Police, MANY communities are protected by volunteer firefighting stations and many other subdivisions, gated communities, homes and businesses are protected by private patrols. Yes, there is a need for law enforcement and probably a need for firefighters, although there is far less of a need for firefighters in most areas... and police except for in large cities/suburban areas where crime is so rampant because of all the dummies from public schools.

  • @lennyvasbinder Actually most crime is cause my legal adults NOT minors... second of all MOST Firefighters are paid by the government and law enforcers. And yet again the MILITARY is financed by taxpayer dollars. We should probably end that too since your are against government spending... by the way do you know the governments original deficit was cause by Bush by the war in Iraq. Maybe we should end that... And how about the Food and Drug administration we should probably end that 2.

  • @octoberboiy God, you're an ignorant POS. I didn't say anything about minors. I said that a large percentage of dummies... like you... graduate from public schools and end up relying on the rest of us to support you... either with food stamps, welfare, unemployment, housing, keeping you all in jail, etc. As far as the military, that is provided for in the Constitution... not all the other liberal socialist goverment programs added in the past 50+ years. I'll address your deficit dumbness...

  • @octoberboiy The "original deficit" was not caused by Bush. God, you're such a moron. The first deficits were mostly war-time deficits due to the large amounts of money spent on all of America's wars... from the Civil War to WWI to WWII, etc. All of that war spending was almost always paid back in the following years and Washington would balance it's budget. In the past 50 years, for the most part and whether there is a war or not, Washington keeps on spending like useless POS's like you.

  • @lennyvasbinder For your information... I am smarter than you our anyone you know. The tax dollars that my parents and everyone paid made it possible for me to graduate from high school and college at the same time. I have my degree at a time when you probably just started working on yours. Next of all, When i say original deficit i meant the recent one (Duh). The one that started this recession in the first place. And guess what, tax payer dollars still pay for the military anyway.

  • @octoberboiy OH yeahh... you've proven that your so smart with all of your ignoramus, asinine posts. I wonder what your degree is in... probably a degree in education so you can become a stupid-assed teacher like the ones who taught you to be so stupid. As far as Bush's deficits, Obama has run up more deficits in his first 18 months than Bush had in the last four years of his term. God, you're so f'ing stupid, it's pathetic. I can only pray you'll learn something from my posts.

  • @lennyvasbinder Yes obama has spent more... but MORE ON WHAT WILL HELP US MAKE MORE... UNLIKE BUSH WHO WASTED THE MONEY. The fact that you are cussing shows more ignorance of all. Maybe you need to be more civilized, they way educated people should be.

  • @octoberboiy Name one thing that "obama has spent more... but MORE ON WHAT WILL HELP US MAKE MORE"??? If little "o" was deficit spending to actually create jobs, that might not be so bad but he's not. He's deficit spending on bailouts and takeovers and Obamacare, etc... none of which are creating any new jobs. He promised, on TV, that if Congress approved his Spendulus package, unemployment would not go over 8% and it's been up to 10% and staying near that number ever since. Obama's LIES!!!

  • Is Maddow suggesting we should all just relax?

I can't believe that the likes of CNN and the Democrats have the gall to downplay the seriousness of the oil spill that may destroy the lifestyle of the entire gulf coast for decades. Nor can I believe that Fox News and the Republicans, who just a year and a half ago were saying stupid things like "Drill baby Drill," are now acting like they are champions of anti-corporate environmentalism. The whole thing is making me ill.

  • @meanlin Maddow suggesting we relax? That hardly seems like the case. Maddow seemed pretty agitated that we learned nothing from something 30 years ago. Rather, she's pointing out how the same mistakes and dishonesty is repeating, and that has to get ANYone with a heart angry. This is beyond political.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't believe in deja vu. And I'm having a bad case of deja vu. I was 3 in '79 and only remember trace memories of snatches caught while eavesdropping on my parents watching the news. But yes, this is really eerie. Life is a circle, I guess.

  • Hey isn't that the child actor Fred Savage??? I swear that's Fred Savage dressed as a woman.. Either way anyone living around the gulf is mega fucked.. The tectonic plate that was floating on the ocean of oil 18,000ft. down is sinking and causing earthquakes all around the gulf perimeter.. and furthermore the pacific plate is hinging on the tectonic plate that the gulf of mexico rides on.. as the gulf plate sinks it causes the pacific plate to shift bigtime!!!

  • Rachel Maddow is icky...

Is Rachel a guy or a girl

  • @DancingSpiderman

What hasn't been tried is plugging up the oil leak hole from the inside using a pipe and forced-in ready-mix concrete, in what could be called Operation Mother ButtPlug...

  • this video explains it so simple check this out...wanna get a get the story...STRAIGHT TO THE POINT? Search xstevepx!

  • This awful!

  • who are you suggesting caused this "non-accident" E.L.F.???

  • @OrchidRa You are wrong, we are not to blame. We are at the mercy of the elite. The government is a puppet show. They dont hold ultimate power.

  • @Winter077 You're right on one part -- governments are controlled by corporations. However, in some way we really are to blame, just not entirely so. We purchase the oil -- that's what gives the big oil companies their money in the first place.

  • @aranelinya There is only one political party. The whole sytem is a sham meant to devide us. I can't believe people are still arguing about politics when the whole eastern side of your country will soon be uninhabitable. The party is over, it's us united as one against a corrupt government that answeres to the elite.

  • what she failed to mention is that less than 2% of the spilled oil ever reach the shore line and that shrimping was back to normal 2 years later. and this spill was 10 times greater than BP at this point.

  • @hiderbrau The difference is Ixtoc was an accident, this one is not. They will not fix the gusher until ultimate destrution has accured. There are already many reports of acid rain damaging crops. They are not reporting this in the news.

  • i can't believe it!!! a news report that actually made sense

  • don't know who said.... but a famous Person said before "history repeats".... think he was right.....

  • I wonder if she drove her car to the studio? She probably knew better and only bought gasoline that was drilled out in shallow water. We are all, in part, responsible.

  • Something to think about.......The Ixtoc drilling was only a 3 km (1.9 mi) deep oil well when the drilling rig Sedco 135F lost drilling mud circulation. Apples and oranges.

  • It is the song that never ends it goes on and on my friend. Population growth, economic, growth, housing growth, there is no way to stop this it is the human condition . Except our being the top species, environmental degradation is an inevitable consequence of mans top line role. You children need jobs, you need jobs the environment is the provider of resources and receiver of mans waste and it will never end population growth is the only economic engine, sustainability is fiction a false hope .

  • @jobedied So what, if we didn't increase the population we could never do anything? There's no way to do anything that doesn't depend on adding more growth?

What would happen if tomorrow, we suddenly and mysteriously found ourselves only capable of having enough children to at most maintain population, but not enough to have growth? Just a hypothetical -- I want to see how you think we'd suddenly be oh so doomed not having MORE and MORE people, how a constant amount simply cannot hope to work.

  • In other words, I want you to prove it is fiction. Prove your claim.

  • @mike4ty4 Thanks for challenging my pessimistic ravings nothing is set in stone we could as a species solve our problems I really do not know but hope we will reach a point where we value the processes that sustain us and live in a balance with earth. We are not now, the chemistry of the oceans are changing biodiversity is disappearing I can go on and on with the big shit we are taking on earth. We may very well do as Easter Island hope that Easter Island proves not to be our fate.

  • Amazing...simply amazing.

Kudos to Maddow for illuminating this history for all of us.

  • the only thing history has shown us, is that we don't learn anything from history.

  • not funny but operation sabrano killing me hopefully we will learn in time

  • lies ixtoc was far more large and it didnt do anythign the alarmist and liars maddow claimed this thing does or anything else the ixtoc was most lielly a terrorist attack just like the elf terror attack on this earth day this is all a bunch of reichtag fires coordinated by the left to fund soros and etc. and attacks freeing up our energy market and allowing for private proterty rights to come back to america.....SICKENING

  • @deltapunk21 : Can your pot be any more cracked?

  • All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again

  • I'm gearing up to be helping to clean up Oil on our Beautiful Flagler Beach in Flagler Beach Florida...for thoes that do not know where that is...we are 30 miles north of Daytona Beach...it will be here some time next month....I'm sick....

  • @sleeplis Just wait till you smell the Fumes..then you will be sick like most of the people cleaning it up in Louisiana..The Dispersants actually are making peoples boats breakdown it eats through the Fiberglass.. the Dispersants cause cancer and Alot of other Harmful conditions..

  • @sleeplis Why on earth would you risk your health for those BP pigs..your efforts will be in vain..get out and while you still can.

  • We can get off most fossil fuels within 20-30 years if we put a concerted effort into solar, wind, fuel cells, electric cars, algae biofuels, and new nuclear technologies.

We also need a new national smart power grid to move electricity.

We can use a carbon tax on fossil fuels to pay for it, and it'll provide millions of JOBS that can't be exported.

Europe & China are ALREADY doing this and America will lose out in future green energy technologies, if we don't.

We owe it to our grandchildren.

  • actually the most profitable is international banking /financier. Far higherthe oil , weapons , drugs , and gdp of countries. The elite of the elite have all the money they need , its about power.

  • @yourboycal Don't forget damaging the planet, look up HAARP my friend!

  • love rachel maddow.

  • I really respect and admire Rachel Maddow.....she doesnt mince words...clear and consise and factual!

  • History will repeat itself. .Again..and again.. and again.. and again.. and again.. and again.. and again..and..well..you get the idea. Until we learn from our past mistakes, we, along with future generations WILL continue to endure history's do-overs.

  • @bootyraider Disaster is a wonderful compulsion for making people forget their petty differences.

  • @chrisbdba What source are you referring to? I want to look at it.

  • they did the oil spill on purpose

  • thanks for saying it as it is. nothing has changed. shame on the oil industry. billions wasted on clean up that could have been invested in fostering green affordable technology. disgusting crime against humanity. ecocide. for 40 yeras we have known that we have to get off the oil kick, yet we still are spending billions on exploration and drilling! lame... what about low income affordable green housing?

  • profit Vs people 1-0

    profit Vs wildlife 1-0

    profit Vs Law 1-0

profit Vs the bigger country 1-0

profit Vs health food etc. 1-0

    profit is the champion....

they did not change the policy to secure platforms they just thought they can dig

from a dipper poinf of the ocean whn in 1979 the depth was "only" 200m!!

now is 5000m... god save us.. from corporate democracy

  • HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF ALL THE TIME!!!!! WHATS NEW!!!

  • @egeaux

Because of spills like the above! If the industry spent a mere fraction of their profits on updating their response tech, it wouldn't matter how far out - or close - the well is. This video proves that they done NOTHING to update their response and deserve nothing but contempt.

  • @egeaux

Hint #2: Scarcity...and the fact that they can drill "sideways" now. We extracted all the easiest oil first.

Getting all the oil out of the Earth is like getting all the toothpaste from a tube. The real debate is how far we have we rolled it up and how much do we want to spend to extract all the last bits clinging to the inside (when we reach that point, which we haven't).

In Australia's Super Pit gold mine, they will crush 1 MILLION TONS of rock to find TWO OUNCES of gold!

  • Hey, I don't watch TV but this chick is a stitch, such delivery, such a research team! To hell with the who's lamer, Leno or O'Brian schtict, give this gal a shot at late nite before she gets any older and becomes one of those botox mutants.

  • Gee I wonder why they were having to drill in such deep water. Seems like drilling in more shallow water or even on land would make more sense. Wow oil companies must be really stupid for doing that. (sarcasm)

  • We are doomed to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. We never learn.

  • And you can still find trace amount of oil on the beach in South Padre Texas 31 years later... I know, I've been there since I was a child.
