@VideoScenario I can't seem to reply directly to your post. Shop vacs don't pull enough of a vacuum. You need a vacuum of at least 25 pounds pressure. You can buy vacuum pumps at Harbor Freight. As for melting metal with fire, I have NO clue! LOL But you could poke around in the archives of the Orchid Jewelry forum at wwwdot ganoksin dot com and see what's in there. I'm sure it's been discussed before. If all else fails, join the group and ask directly.

@VideoScenario I don't know about 'inexpensive', but you can try Rio Grande, Otto Frei or Contenti--those are all jeweler's supply houses that sell tools and supplies. You should be able to find all the things you mentioned at any of those sites.

Yes, those parts are important. If you don't properly measure the investment and water, when you pour the metal into the flask it may come out too soft. This can cause the investment to crack, and then the metal comes out the bottom of the flask, possibly injuring someone or causing a fire. And if you don't vacuum it, you could end up with bubbles left in it. Bubbles in the investment will turn into raised lumps and bumps all over your finished castings.
