  • So beautiful, I might buy an album by you if you sell stuff

  • Eric what kind of bass is it??

  • @dragon21247

Looks like a 6-string Ibanez Soundgear.

  • incredibly beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

  • do you prefer round or flat wound strings for fretless?

  • This is beyond amazing.

  • hah, you know you have mad fretless chops when your playing sounds identical to say, the garage band programmable fretless bass XD

  • Sounds beautiful & melodic! Very sophisticated, love it. What make and model of fretless bass are using ?

  • found this video about a week before i bought my own 6-string fretless, and i will SO learn to play this...

  • superb playing

  • Thank you everyone again! Please feel free and send me a message if you have any questions, or contact me through Facebook! ( just look for the logo...)

    cheers! E

  • I mend my earlier comment: Extraordinary, howevver,I would like to hear the same sonata but without the effect, with the crude sound of the fretless bass, this effect does not appreciate the bass in its true cadence

  • Extraordinary, howevver,I would like to hear the same sonata but without the effect, but with the crude sound of the fretless bass, this effect does not appreciate the under in its true cadence

  • Amazing!

  • Love the coposition but the fretless sounds synthetic

  • the mwah that comes from that bass is the mwah my bass dreams of........

  • Subscribed nough said.

  • The tone is so weird and ominous... I love it!

  • what is the name of this bass?

  • Probably my favourite eric czar song, my only criticism is that I wish it was longer lol

  • Some real brilliance here.

  • sorry if its been asked a bunch of times already but what brand of bass is that?

  • @musicman9901 suposed to ba an Ibanez which he defreted himself.. at least thats what the annotation had writen

  • This is absolutely amazing, thank you for the wonderful music :)

  • awesome...

yes, that slide at 0:33 is great,,,,

    great piece, man,,,,

    great piece

    thnx 4 your art!

  • The moustache just makes it all the better.

  • Great song love everything sounds amazing

  • thanks for all the support, and kind words!

  • Freaking amazing.

  • What tuning do you use? EADGCF? Or BEADGC?

  • @6ckbass Definitely B standard. The lowest string is too big to be an E.

  • Can you tell me what the blue light on 1st string in 1:39

  • @Luziferzx That may be an e-bow.

  • It reminds me Philip Glass. And I like it.

  • the weird thing about this is, i make those same expressions and raise my shoulders up when i start getting way into my playing...

  • roundwounds or flatwounds?? which is he using

  • @KincaidBass im thinking rounds. thats the nasally kinda tone you get from a fretless with rounds.

  • @KincaidBass Roundwounds, definitely, you can't get that tone out of flatties

  • @KincaidBass Probably Roundwounds. Maybe they're a little aged.

  • beutiful! and i think somebody missed the like button

  • Mr. Czar, I deem you God of the bass guitar.

  • Epic... ^^

  • just great. words fail.

  • that took me to another planet.... without getting high

  • Eric, did you use a tutorial on how to rip out the frets? Or a book or anything?? I have an old SR506 I am DYING to make fretless but I need to know how to do it before I even consider attempting! Please write me back! Great stuff by the way!

  • @6ckbass there are loads of tutorials on youtube.

  • I love this!! The best playing i've heard in quite a long time. Do you play with any groups or anything? You need to be more well known. THis is incredible

  • im not usually one for the sound of fretless basses but, you made it sound so silky with that octave sound on it.

  • to me, this sounds like a SNES game. its freakin awesome!

  • I want to be like you when I grow up

  • Very cool!!!! bella

  • i know a guy that play's fretless....and iv'e come to hate it. This is awsome but for someone that doesn't practice...ever...it gets very annoying being sharp or flat on every note. The guy i'm speaking of has been playing for years but thinks no one cares if he's playing off tune. drives me nuts! haha

  • I love that tone.

  • Really enjoyed your performance. Great sound and technique. Thanks.

  • Definitely gets my vote for "Best use of an E-Bow on a Fretless Bass" award.

  • @MST2k Screw that. He gets my vote for Best Use of a Fretless Bass

  • Dude did you seriously rip the frets out yourself? Because this whole thing flows so smooth and it even looks and sounds like a legit fretless! Would you mind sending me a message or even an email on how to do that because I'd seriously like to try that out on one of my old basses and see how it turns out. Please get back to me and make even more incredible music as soon as possible!

  • @TheWillBoyce had an email already?

cuz if so, can you forward it to me?? :P

  • Lol the one guy that dislikes must have been molested by a bass guitar when he was young, and is now afraid of them. Too far?

  • Great!

  • Dang, dude -- where ja get dem fangers???

    Amazing!!!!!!

  • magic

  • This is amazing, and it sounds very smooth.

  • nice tune man i hope someday i can have it!

  • how???? lol

  • You are freakin' amazing, sir.

  • This is hauntingly beautiful music. Can not lie.

  • @CoffeeSquib hey no way my old account got top comments :P

  • Wow you are a wonderful musician. IMO the greatest bassists can take a piece of crap bass and make it sound beautiful. You sir are one of those bassists. :)

  • magnifique ,respect...

  • great musician...

  • Still say this bass has a tongue!

  • You sweetened up the sound of that fretless amazingly. What effects did you use? Nice work!

  • nice the laser pluck ant the end

  • @METALLICAMP357 face the light means turn to the light

  • face the light man , i can't see shit

  • awesome man! This is your original stuff? right on, keep writing!

  • Really nice man, excellent intonation. Among other basses I have an older Ibanez BTB 6 that i customized and defretted also. BTB s have become my preferred bass, cheap and sound GREAT.

  • This is beautiful, moving music as well as being technically brilliant.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Amazing! this one went to my favorites.

  • pretty sweet song. i wanna hear a comparison of the exact same thing by the same dude with a fretted one though

  • How are one of these basses played? It seems that it would be incredibly hard to hit the same note if you cant tell exactly where you have your fingers rested.

  • @rafnaj1 Sounds cliche, but practice and experience.

  • violins violas cellos and string basses have no frets its the same thing

  • @rafnaj1 You would just fret the note over the fret line instead of between them. You'll be surprised how quickly you get used to it (20 min.) Playing fretless improves your touch and phrasing and makes you listen and play differently. Go for it brother!

  • It was like fergie mixed with Jesus! Nah... more like patitucci on crack. Beautiful

  • bartolini pickups? or did u replace?

  • @mokeanL if everything's still stock, then it would have ibanez dx-5 pickups

  • awesome theme, nice sound, 5 stars

  • This is utterly beautiful. What did you use to get the first part to repeat?

  • very great!!beautiful sound

  • epic sound man

  • yes!

  • Great job, Eric. Are you utilizing an octaver at 0:26?

  • @ultimabass I think he just recoded both parts in layers

  • Perchance... how people do that is what I wonder.

  • you record one part, then stop, then record another part on a separate track. The video only shows one at a time but there's clearly several tracks.

  • Can you do that with windows movie maker?

What i've also wanted to try is to try and record with audacity and set it to a video of me playing, but id ont' know how to do that with WMM and audacity...

  • I know nothing about WMM, as I'm a Mac user. But I would certainly think a pro like Mr. Czar is using something a little more serious than audacity and windows movie maker for these recordings.

  • WONDERFUL!! D:

  • Complete Brilliant!

  • wow this is great!!! especially the part from 1:08 to 1:28 it is just amazing, brilliant.... great job!!!

  • God-Like nice job with your fretless bass guitar

  • amazing....

  • It really reminds me of a percy jones piece i heard on one of his bass exploration videos :D

    Great stuff man.

  • really well done. :)

Like this. it sounds pretty good. amazing. ^^

  • hey thats beautiful! Good job man! favorited!

  • sounds great!

  • This is amazing!

  • I've been playing this on my iPhone at least a doven times a day for a week and thus have never had a chance to leave a comment (cause keyboard is easier!)...

Dude...thats the THE most beautiful piece of music I've heard in a long time! I REALLY love the vibrato u pull off on it...Very human like if u get my meaning...Love the octave slide @ 0:35.

I've seen all ur vids and see like u said that price isnt an issue in buying basses...well said! My favs are cheaper than my others haha!

  • @KongoXIIV insane slide in 0:35

  • You said you ripped the frets out yourself. How did you do that without leaving any marks?

  • A soldiering iron, pair of pliers, tape and most importantly: patience.

That's all you need. Search youtube for how to defret a bass, some great videos.

  • hehe thanks

  • Just done it myself [well my father done it to be correct!] on my old peavey grind six string. I should have a video up in the next week or 2 if you are interested in seeing the results of such a project!

  • The best sound I ever heard! No bass(ist) can touch this.

  • i love how at :26 it just goes so much deeper and more powerful then just 10 seconds later at :36 its melodic and soft.. love this dood :D

  • Beautiful song, well played. A nice surprise - usually, all I find on YouTube are a bunch of demos of technique, without any actual musical communication. A wonderful piece of music. Thanks!

  • I dis pull them out of my bass too, it sounds great!!, Thanks for sharing man.

  • Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

  • Amazing playing. but i really don't like that tone.

  • its a a fretless tone...kinda aquired taste

  • 0:27 reminds me of the music from some of the old donkey kong games for super nintendo :P

  • Wow! That's straight up stunning and sounds beautiful! I'm a rock bass player (influenced by Cliff Burton, Geezer, and JPJ), but I have to say, that is quite inspirational and just amazing. Great stuff. Extremely talented!

  • how does this thing work?

  • This was quite a wonderful tune, i actually have a Ibanez 406 model that i considered de fretting myself but then i just went and bought a Brice fret less 6 string that im still waiting on.

  • how do you take frets off a bass

  • You pull them out. They make a tool for it. They're kind of like pliers. I've done it to a couple basses. You need to fill in the gaps where the frets used to be. Most people use epoxy.

  • i just use a razor blade

  • I really love your work and I've watched your videos several times. I would be fun if you did a video witch several "windows" so you could see all of the tracks you play simultaniously! And if you don't, well, I'd still be watching! =D

  • simply amazing

  • Heh,I also have a defretted Ibanez SR406.

May I ask what strings you are using in this video?

  • Love this stuff man! Thanks for sharing.

Could you post that piece Conklin has you playing sometime when you get a chance in (what I am sure is) you busy schedule?

  • He already did. Both of them.

  • What strings are you using?

  • I love it, I passed a lot.

  • Few videos make me want to give up bass, and this one does. Awesome job!

  • 0:26 through 0:36 is when I imagine sunbeams piercing through the clouds of an otherwise bleak afternoon on the plains.

  • That's Amazing! Is there anyway you can put a tab of it up?

  • why in the world do you think he would tab this out? If you want to learn it, do it by ear. Not trying to be a jerk but you're asking a lo of the guy.

  • lovely

  • One of the best bassplayer worldwide. Is anybody here how knew, why this guy don´t more join the group of Joe Bonamassa?

Sorry my english, it´s not my language!

  • very good

  • phenomenal as always. keep up the fine work. what a player

  • great stuff, you realy are an awesome awesome bass player!

  • This is amazing!!! Never heard anything like this on fretless bass. This guy is a genius!!!!!
