  • legally t'ain't the Airplane without Grace Slick - this is a fine ensemble called Jefferson Starship courtesy of Paul Kantner and David Frieberg (don't dare request "We Built This City! lol)

We love you MARTY!!!!! Come back soon!!!!!

    :)

  • this is jefferson cezzna--no jack cass--jorge--grace--damn like the stones without mick and keith

  • Comment removed

  • Dian Mangano is the BEST female lead this band EVER had! Not to take away from Grace, but it's a fact!

  • looks like the acid wore off...

  • that's ont jefferson aieplane that's starship

  • Diana Mangano is no Grace Slick but she is a great singer. Listen to her do "Somebody to Love" and I think you'll agree. Although I think Grace is irreplacable, Diana fills her shoes pretty well.

  • Diane, She has agreat voice and so naturally beautiful and sexy

  • accually its Jefferson Starship "Miracles", the song had nothing to do with jefferson airplane. they cant use 'jefferson airplane' without grace (legally). Marty sold out his share of the band he co founded

    i like this performance!

  • i miss grace

  • Their best song. Marty should put the guitar down and concentrate on the singing of this beautiful song.

  • Marty sounds a hell of a lot better on this one than on some of the other songs posted on here with him singing live.

  • Hey... This is a Starship song, not Airplane.

    Great great great video!

Peace love and good tunes to all!

  • Can you really call it the Airplane without Jorma Jack or Grace?

  • NO.

  • This is a wanking argument. It is what it is. Sometimes it's best to just enjoy the music.

  • It is not a legit group without Grace

  • This is a fine group that stands on it's own. Ya it would be nice to have Grace, but she can't hit all the notes anymore and has retired from touring. Seeing these guys in smaller venues playing these intimate shows is a real thrill. BTW I saw them with Grace on the Earth reunion tour years ago, and this show was ten times better.

  • well I saw er with em during Red Octopus tour ...so there...

  • @oceanbound222 and without jorma and jack

  • aron is a pis drinker

  • So's Jack Herer and probably a million people in India. What's your point?

  • u can drink your pee pee to stay alive sometimes

  • hey what happened to you?

    she's inmortal

  • what happened to grace? Did she die or something?

  • Voices like Grace's don't last forever and she has retired from touring.

  • shes not dead she retired. her 70th birthday just passed

  • pretty sure that isn't grace

    correct me if i'm wrong

  • Why are y'all even having this conversation? The players are listed in the song description...

  • What are you 12 ?

  • Diana Mangano

  • Her name is Diana Mangano

  • Gee...Grace looks 40 lbs lighter and 40 years younger in this VID.

    Must be the drugs.

  • Diana Mangano

  • What got me when I first heard this song was I always thought it was a Jefferson Airplane song until I learned that it was made later on, in the Jefferson Starship years.

  • Thanks Mitch!

  • this floot wood mac!!!!!!

  • sad.... the world would be a better place without this awful song....

  • it eez a nicea song why you no-a like?

  • "I had a taste of the real world

When I went down on you, girl"

    So true!

  • Man, this is one of those songs that just never leaves your mind or heart. I couldn't hear it enough back then. Once again, this is one of the video's I have been searching for and ecstatic to find it....Thank you to whom ever put in on here..K

  • Diana Mangano has great energy,,,

  • That's Prairie Prince of the Tubes playing drums... AWESOME drummer.

  • marty & paul are the soul of JA grace was the heart of the band

  • Anf Jorma and Jack are the brain...

  • I've got nothing against this, but the name Jefferson Airplane is erroneous---this is today's (2005)Jefferson Starship. No Jorma, no Jack, no Grace, NO AIRPLANE--get yer credits right, Mitch!

  • only posted the way the show was billed.

  • After posting my comment, I saw you being taken to task in other comments and saw your assertion about the bill--my apologies for gettin' on ya! By the way, "Have You Seen the Stars,Tonight" is one of the greatest songs there is. I love the studio original, featuring Jerry G. All the best Mitch! Peace.

  • Thanks, it was a real thrill for me getting to see them do the song and an even bigger one to be able to film it. The only other time I had seen the band was on the "Earth" tour, Balin was the only one sober and seemed a bit angry with it all. Also it was at The Coliseum and the sound sucked. This was a much nicer and more intimate show. I got a smile out of Kantner by shouting out a request for "Sketches of China" the only song I liked as much as this.

  • I saw the Airplane 3 times in '89. At the Fillmore, in SF, after one of the encores,Balin gestured at some of the psychedelic lighting on the wall, and said..."yeah, that was for my benefit." It was hilarious. That night he and Grace danced during "Miracles"; it was magic, and the final notes of the night were ROCKIN' as F**K as they ripped the roof off with an earsplitting "Volunteers"!! Rock on, Mitch.

  • Paul & Grace's daughter was a VJ on MTv a few yrs back.

  • That's Diana Mangano. She's not Paul Kantner and Grace Slick's daughter. She's from Buffalo. They're from San Francisco.Too bad the old Airplane isn't together anymore.

  • So, couldn't Paul and Grace have been on tour and left their love child in Buffalo? I'm kidding but it makes a good story.... fans of JA should check out the Grip Weeds for a similar sound.

  • they should have a love child to contineu the sega...they own baby to corry the legacy from now on forward, not some buffalo girl

  • I think the only band that comes close to these guys is probably The Grip Weeds and they're a way distant second to Jefferson Airplane in their prime. This was a very copacetic show and even the band seemed to be enjoying themselves. There'll never be another Grace and even Grace couldn't live up to the legend in more than a few shows that I saw.

  • Grace is a legend and hot, that is why you want her....just admit it.

  • I admit it - Grace is a legend and hot and I want her. I admit it! I admit it! I admit it!

  • wow...

I have this on my i pod and fall asleep to it sometimes..the passion for the song is not the same

maybe its just me but with headphones he sings it like its the only thing he wants to convey to whomever he wrote it for...i will stick to my i pod version this just blows it for me...

  • Things change, people change. They were together as the original Airplane at one time.....they all moved on, morphed and had to do life as it happened. Now there's this line up. Just enjoy it. One day it won't be here either. Plans go south and people die....its the way things work this side of heaven.....

  • Marty still sounds great ...good to see that Paul is keeping the Airplane in flight, even if Grace, Jorma @ Jack remain on the ground.

  • who is the lady singing ?

  • You mean Grace Slick? She's famous.

  • It's posted to the description on the video, but since you seem impaired, it's Diana Mangano.

  • the jefferson, but without a plane to trip...

  • You never step into the same stream twice. Last true "Airplane" music, or semi-reasonable facsimile thereof, were three post-Airplane albums released under artist name "Kantner, Slick and Freiberg" issued during the interim period before the first "Jefferson Starship" album. The evolution has been interesting. Different folks like different airplanes, and that's the way it will always be.

  • marty balin paul kantner is more than enuff dummy

  • Jefferson Airplane? You must be kidding. Without Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady it's like the Beatles without Lennon and McCartney.

  • She's another one of the few who has mastered the art of contralto. She has turned a basic vibrato into an art form. Fine-tuning it into her fists of fury. Grace did that too. And that's why they sound similar.

  • Poor Grace! She should have done the reunion tour!

  • Grace said old people look ridiculous on stage gotta agree!

  • Then that's the end of rock 'n roll because all of today's bands suck.

  • thats not true for airplane sounding stuff listen to the grip weeds for classic rock there's mooney suzuki, dogs die in hot cars and a zillion more try listening to some of the new kids coming up the pike and go out to see some live music. i've got over 200 vids up and at least 100 of them are recent bands.... check out dr dog or prabir and the substitutes for a classic rock sound with some new material....

  • I lost touch with the Airplane around the time of Papa John "Screech",

I am not embarrassed to say.

Starship, Jefferson Starship?? Different bands purveying sugar-pop-for-

    profit in a different era...:>)

  • SO WRONG! Airplane was great, Jefferson Starship was good, Starship was bad, and the people here are great again.

  • O.K. but only half wrong:>):>):>)

  • ok, point taken. The general taste of the bands were different. Airplane was psychidelia all around, drug songs and all that. Jefferson Starship was a masterpiece of love where blandness was the style. Starship was a botched version of a soul band, and the people here are kind of like ghosts. They keep hanging on, doing their thing. And they are so much better than Starship. I like Mickey Thomas, though.

  • yeah! this analysis is spot on, I'd say...

  • Balin started Airplane but never fit in with them in their brilliant heyday. He won out in the end when Starship became an ultracommerical '70's-'80's corporate product. The genius of Kaukonen and Cassidy long gone by then.

  • How true!!!Jorma and Jacks genius ...Burgers,Phosporescent Rat, Quah ....never the corporate product!...

  • Starship/Airplane who cares? They were touring as The Airplane so quit going off on me about it, take it up with the band. Got a smile out of Kantner when I screamed a request for Sketches Of China between songs, would have given a penny for his thoughts just then. If anyone knows if there's any video of them doing that let me know I'd love to see it. I knew there wasn't a chance in hell they'd be performing it, but I was happy as hell to get Have You Seen The Stars Tonight?

  • Marty Balin is still God!

  • Prairie Prince on drums...He was the original drummer for Journey on their first album.

  • No, he never played with Journey. Ansley Dunbar played on the first Journey album. Prairie Prince played with the Tubes...

  • It's Jefferson Starship not Airplane ''ouch. But a nice video to a classic song fromJ Starship RED Ocyopus album

  • i love this band. thank you.

  • No Grace, no Airplane. Sorry-

  • No Jack and Jorma, no Airplane as well...!

  • just not the real deal without Grace..sorry but she was the star

  • I concur. But I love this tune.

  • This was awesome . . . yeah!

  • nice to see. looking for "with your love" and "runaway" if you have Please post. great stuff ty

  • Has Jack been playing bass with them?

  • The way Kantner was knocking back the cigarettes and the whisky on this tour, i'd be surprised if he lasts much longer, quite sad really.

  • And the bottle of "stoli" vodka next to him on stage ??

  • I loved Grace back in the day too but her voice isn't what it used to be. Diana was okay, nothing compares to Grace when she was on, but having seen her with the band, catching her at her best was a crap shoot.

  • Mickey Thomas tours with a band as "Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas." Paul Kantner owns the rights to both the "Jefferson Airplane" and the "Jefferson Starship" names. If he's with the band, he can call it whatever he wants to. That said, without Grace Slick, I'm not interested.

  • Great stuff. Saw them last fall in SF without Balin (David Freidberg of Quicksilver and Starship) sang. They do still tour, Balin is in and out of. They have a webpage with schedule if you google Jefferson Starship.

  • A friend of mine was their road manager or I'd have never probably gotten permission to tape.

  • I'd give anything to see these perform live. Hope they tour again soon

  • I posted what I thought was the best 2, will re watch and see if there's anything else worth posting. Blue Floyd opened the show and I have 2 of their songs up as well.

  • Its a brilliant video by the way, did you manage to get any other of their classics on video?

  • If they were billed as Jefferson Airplane then that is a mistake by the promoters or whoever organized the gig because they are definitely known as Jefferson Starship. And 'Starship' are a completely different band.

  • I thnik Mickey is deceased.

  • ell tell them then cause I was the one that taped this and they were billed as the Airplane.

  • This is Jefferson Starship.

Jefferson Airplane no longer exist and 'Starship' is a completely different band led by Mickey Thomas and made up of people who joind Jefferson Airplane in the later years

  • They were touring as The Jefferson Airplane.

  • this is stasrship not jefferson airplen nor jefferson starship

  • Not bad

  • great Balin great

  • Diana Mangano is singing, Marc"Slick" Agular playing guitar on the right, Preari Prince on drums, ....

    I still love these guys.....

  • this is jefferson starship not jefferson airplane
