Al, do you have the name of the yellow machine that is shown in the video loadin from 1:17? It is a Broussard? And what about the costs of one such machine, do you know?
It is a Cameco SP2254 loader. Cameco has since been bought out by John Deere and these machines are now painted green. I think it probably cost 80 to 100,000 USD, but thats a guess. I do have some video of a Broussard if you look through my other videos.
al91176 Ijust watched a video on a john deere cutting green standing cane. whats with this video? was the field burned first? whats the most economical harvesting technique?
This is an older method of harvesting. It is still used alot in South America, but not much in the states. The method using the combine style harvester is better b/c it cuts out this machine all together. And yes, they do burn the cane after it's cut to remove the leaves.
my little 3 year old bro loves this while i baby sit! =)

What type of "THINGY" is on the front to make it roll like that?
sk8terbhoy342 4 years ago
It's called a piler. It's just a bunch of pick up chains run by hydrolics. They lift the cane off the ground instead of pushing it in the mud.

Very impressive. Those cane loaders are awsome. The guy driving the first machine was far better than the yellow machine driver who kept stopping.
