i have an important question...how difficult is to work as an actor??i've heard that u need connections and i don't have...i only have my willingness and i'm 17 years old..i want it so bad..
i live in jersey so its very easy to get to philadelphia or new york. my question is.. is there a lot of taping in those locations and not la? also, how can you find an agent? i knw the real ones are free but the problem i am having is finding them.
YES! New York has alot of stuff going on... Law and Order (of Course) - Ugly Betty- Gossip Girl and MORE...
if you have no work experiance then i suggest sending your resume out to places where you can get features work.... or background work... or stand-up work... or photo-doubling.... this will get you around other people and also on set. The main companies for this in NYC that book for philly too are Grant Wilfrey Casting, Sylvia Fey Casting and CSA... G/L
what happens if you can't afford to get an agent or anything? because i'm stuck. i've been aspiring to be an actress for as long as i can remember, but if i can't afford it, what can i do?
I agree with keeping a level head & not going crazy about the agency that you're signed with IF they are not helping you. Also, someone must maintain a sense of where they are. I've worked with stand-ins that turned DIVA when the 1st AD selected them for that. They didn't even get on film, yet decided to act like a diva for a music video! When that actress discovered that I'm a writer-director, she tried to kiss up to me. Too late...this is NYC...no phonies PLEASE!
I think that workig as an extra is very good to do when you are beginning. You need to know what it is like to be on a set. If you do not know and then you get a part in a film or on television you will look pretty silly.
Also, after you have been an extra few times make sure to tell your casting director that you are interested in being a stand-in or photo double. THis does not mean that you will be selected just because you want to.
There needs to be a demand for your type. But this would also help you with hitting your marks on set.
Hi ya I'm currently 16 years old living in Ventura, California which is just about an hours drive north of L.A.
The passion in my life is definitely for becoming a film actor in Hollywood.
Since I'm just trying to start my "career" I am a little lost as to what should be the first steps.... From a casting directors point of view, what should a young aspiring actor like myself be trying to do? agents? auditions? do you have any suggestions?
You should try to get with one of these agents b/c they are regestered with the Screen Actors Guild and regularly pay a fee... which means their people are making money-
love her sweater. Saw it on an online Christian store! Anyway, yeah I agree. It is hard and man i've heard of those unexpected meetings w/ agents. They can be scary because you never know if they're scamming you or not.
Somehow I searched for my book, "The Verge of Psychosis: An Aspiring Actor's Journal," and this came up. I'm not sure how, but...uh...everybody check out the book on Amazon or BarnesandNoble dot com.

You have to get rid of the "willingness"...
Exchange it for DRIVE and a CYNICAL, SAVVY outlook... NEVER pay for anything, except AMAZING Headshots and to get them printed.
Then keep working on your ability to perform in an instant...
Connections only go so far. You can land an audition this way but once you get there you have to have the ability.

Talk to strangers...
Seriously!
Practice making other people feel comfortable and happy by extending a warm "hello" or "good afternoon" when walking down the street or at the mall.
Seniors are the eaisest. They are always up for a hello.
This will help you on many levels.

Do a search for SAG Franchised AGENTS.
You should try to get with one of these agents b/c they are regestered with the Screen Actors Guild and regularly pay a fee... which means their people are making money-
