Honestly, as much as I love Anette, I feel there's certain songs of Tarja's that she should never try and cover, and I thought this would be one... but damn, she really makes this hers. Almost sounds like a completely different song... where Tarja's was sheer power and sends shivers up your spine, Anette's take feels much more emotional.

With classical way there are too many classical singers that can sing Wishmaster perfectly. But Tarja can't do it. She is really overrated. But anyway i like listening old albums like wishmaster and oceanborn. Because i like this music. (live)(Example: Van Canto's singer)

Also Nightwish didn't want to find a classical singer. Nightwish wanted to change.

Anette has a charismatic face and great talent. No one else could be better than anette.

Anette and tarja's vocal rages are nearly equal. Yeah it's easy to hit high notes with classical way. But with anette's way (she hits great in escapist or for the heart i once had) it's really hard and she has enough talent to do it.

Anette: Limited range, strong middle range.

So to those still arguing who is better or 'Tarja forever', just shut up and stop listening to NW. I'm neither a fan of Anette nor Tarja, so some songs I prefer Tarja on it and some with Anette. Imho, Higher Than Hope only came alive with Anette. On Once, I usually just skip it cuz I thought it was draggy. Lol

U used to say: anette can't reach high notes!

and now u accept that she can hit high notes. (hartwall 2009 ever dream) Nightwish has some poppy songs like: Nemo, Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful.(them all have video :P) But Nightwish has rock or metal songs with her like: 7 Days to the Wolves, Cadence of Her Last breath, the poet and the pendulum. The last part of poet and the pendulum proves how a nice voice she has.

I agree, Poet and the Pendulum and her rendition of this song are what made up my mind about Anette. She's different, but still awesome.

I still don't like the circunstances around how Tarja was kicked, and the character assassination of her that followed, but Anette had nothing to do with any of that, and when she does speak of Tarja, she has much praise of her. I like both vocalist. Maybe some day we'll see them both in a project together, Nightwish or no Nightwish.

@Evnightlerd  Great singer, yes. But she can't 'sing whatever'. I heard a couple of videos her doing what she professes herself to be - an opera singer - and frankly, they were very average at most. Anette struggles in her upper range, but her middle range is solid. Range alone doesn't make a good singer, it's what you can do with that limited range you have. Musical theatre singers don't have very much range, but you definitely can't call them 'poppy, pretty singers'.

This song was written for a friend of Tuomas', Marc Brueland. He died in October, 2003. The spoken parts are his voice, from an interview that he did before his death.
