i have a 3.73 / 26in slick and near the end of the quarter my engine rev too high (over my power band) i will try a 3.23 with 26in tires and see what appends. (near de same ratio of a 3.42 with 28in tires)

What is your compression ratio? and heads?if you really wanna make an impression at the drag, I suggest you get a set of 4:10 in the rear, and CAL-Tracs if it is a leaf sprung vehicle.

the comp ratio is 9.7:1 but for the gear i will put a 3.23 and 26" tires this summer because my 406 dont rev up to high, i will take the torque at my advantage. its a coil springs car likes all g-body and chevelle-malibu a-body 64 to 88 models

Dude. I do not care what anyone else say's, this car has way more character than a lot of cars some of these people actually drive I'm sure AND it does sound like a beast so I don't doubt that it drives like one too. I have a white 87 ss with a modified 400 sbc in it. I also want to stroke it to a 406 maybe this summer. I have a video of it on here somewhere of it running for the first time. i got a 400 30 over to thats a 406 i am doing a overhaul i am thinking of a gear drive a mother thumper cam flat top pistons aluminum heads 750 edelbroc carb ihave a turbo 400 with a shift kit and the biggest clutches i could get in it ihave 373 gears and hughes stall converter do you have any recomendations your car sounds mean

@88monster you will need a better cam. a guy i know have a 406 like your set up but with a bigger carb and and good cam, have 525hp and he did 10.79 with his monte carlo full interior and 3.42 gear.

alright so i have a 84 monte carlo had a 305 in it i just blew the bottom end do to the fact it has vortec heads comp 280 670 avenger carb victor intake with custom work almost like airgap hooker headers flowmaster 40. so im building a 400sbc what kinda of power am i looking at if i threw that top from the 305 on the 400? should i go with a bigger cam? this is going to be my first 400 so i dont really know how to get the best performance out of it. i want it for street btw all reply r welcome

a 406 is a devil of torque compare to a 350 so you need a cam a little bit torquer than a 350 so you will shift your trans a little bit earlier and manage the engine without rev too high with vortec heads you can put the 400 to 500hp with a proper cam and pistons

those super 44's sound really good w/ that motor! i think i can tell how big that cam is, my mustang sounded similar according to the lope, except i had 3" 50 deltas dumped... but then again sounds and looks can be deceiving lol...

now.. if your 406 SBC sounds like that with super 44's... i wonder what my 545 BBF will sound like with those mufflers
