No one can really understand why this is such a fail unless they've actually played the game, you were supposed to be in a confined area, unable to escape the two sailors.
It begins with a boss fight, you're not supposed to be able to escape from those, but this dude found a way out of it, which bugged up the game and let him past without beating the bosses. =)

That game is trash. I bought it to review 16 bit games and that is a lousy rpg. I couldn't find anything positive about it. At least it came with a dust cover when I got it!
Instead of giving us this, Square SHOULD HAVE given us Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2). Other than the fact it uses the ring menu, this game has NO RELATION to the Mana series. They were originally going to call it "Evermore" but they decided to put "Secret of" in it to trick folks into buying it, much the way they'd done with calling the first Seiken Densetsu on the B&W Gameboy "Final Fantasy Adventure" but with Wii's Virtual Console, perhaps now this injustice can be resolved...
SD3 was pretty much crap. Much better story, more challenging, etc. than SD2, but the melee combat is shit and you literally never melee past about half-in--even physical chars just use physical-type spells. For that matter, SoE is better looking, has a better story and tighter combat than SoM, and is just generally superior to SoM. Magic's more interesting too. I don't see why everyone hates it (maybe they wrongly think that SoE replaced SoM2 in the US?).
Look, it's Secret of Evermore the game that wasn't SD3!

Nevermind I see. The barrier that's supposed to keep you in the boss fight wasn't fully enclosed.

I agree, this game is in many ways superior, though the music in secret of mana is great and it's overall more than good.

@Demmrir I dunno. But Secret of mana was the shit.

Wasn't meant to be funny. I was just pointing out a silly oversight in this game.
