  • Istanbul is Istanbul of course and nobody denies that. But we Greeks still call it Constantinoupoli, which is its original name. Constantinos is the Roman emperor who built it in the 4th century AD to transfer there from Rome the capital of the Roman Empire. Constantinoupoli means city of Constantinos. Everybody has the right to call a country or city by its historical name.This is about history and history alone and it has nothing to do with modern politics.

  • The Byzantines used the name "ISTINBOLI" ,which means "IN THE TOWN" to explain that it refers to the Constantinopoli.Istinboli became Istanbul,this is the same thing,but for centuries it was Constantinupoli.
