  • hi eric you like meynard thanks for the tribute!!

  • that "steam" at 1:46 is the result of proper playing... using warm dark air to make a good tone... it just shows how good they really are.

  • Saw Maynard three times in my life and met him and the band in San Antonio. Was one of the best shows i'd ever seen.

  • 1:34 ............ o_O

  • 4 people were shaking afterward and accidentally missed the like button.

  • 2:45..... holy run!!!!!

  • Why is it so slow?

But damn can Eric blow the horn! WOW!!!!!

  • Why is it so slow?

  • @coolteach3rdg the drummer seems to be holding them back....maybe the rest of the orchestra just can handle it at speed

  • Dang! Smokin trumpet!!!!

  • this is hip as fuck man holy shit

  • Is this a bowling league band?

  • man is he ugly... but good

  • 2:53 nice double c

  • Too damn slow!

  • bobmcclea@aol.com

  • Tempo: Are we at the geriactric home? How could Miyashiro stand it?

  • why so slow?? awsome job otherwise

  • Love him...he was just at berklee for their festival nd he killed it then too

  • Excellent!

  • At 1:41 watch his bell. Its steaming.

  • This isn't up to normal speed at all, but I like this better. Maybe just a hair faster, though.

  • o melhor japa do trompete que eu vi

  • 1:50 is just sick!!!

  • I love this version where its opened up for a lot of soloists. They all did a great job and made it their own.

  • thank you:D

  • one thing to know though, its possible to play that high on any mouthpiece, and the cup isnt what really gives the high notes out, they just leave less room for air to move in. a fast, concentrated, and steady stream of air is whats needed for high notes.

  • Well, yes, a different mouthpiece might make it easier to play high notes, but in the long run, what happens is you dont learn how to play high notes the right way, which is primarily air support.

  • okay thank you, you help me very much:D

  • 1:46...is that steam coming out of his trumpet?!

  • yeah, it is, he does this in some of the other MF band tribute videos too! its pretty sweet!

  • @Hansen334 Major compression of air at those high notes could produce steam... or maybe it's just cold up there!

  • @Hansen334 yeah thats air compression :D just awesome!!

  • can everyone say me the name of a mouthpiece with you can play high easier???

  • What's with the JiffyLube smocks?

  • Thats some fast and warm air he's got. The steam proves it.

  • ...the ending high A...chopped out, know how that feels, lol. I bet he's glad he didn't have to play anything right after that. He still killed it though and awesome to listen to as always.

  • Miyashiro's rockin it!

  • damn. 1:50

  • furguson plays faster than them, but they are

    amazing

  • It's actually harder to play it slower. You've gotta hold out those notes longer, and because people are used to hearing it faster there's a tendency to rush.

  • simplement superbe eric toujours aussi monstrueux

  • It looks like smoke is coming out of erics horn at the 1:43 mark. it looks so damn cool!!!! Just goes to prove its all air.

  • Nice! A great "substitute" Maynard, & a very tight big band grinding out the MF tune. Lotsa fun!!!

  • ah, a much better tempo on this. Eric is da' man!!

  • the horns and saxes sound like a bad midi sound track. its just dead to me......

  • after to listing to the Maynard ferguson from the 70's it just souunds dead. otherwise really good job.

  • Eric does a fine job , but for whatever reason the band isn't into it. Tough to figure as this is many MFanatics' favorite chart. You'd think they'd have done something special.

I agree that the '77 video is very different from the '72 album. '72 is contrast of insane brass coming over the top of this relaxed finger-snapping groove. '77 is in-yo-face never-let-up bad-ass horns ... check-out how the section slightly overblows to put an edge on it.

Sadly, this misses both of those marks.

  • Eric has a really good feel for accuracy, but I felt this was lacking energy. Trane is right, you have to listen to this before MF's if you want to be impressed by this. Really good though!

  • you can't listen to this after listening to Maynard's take from 1977. Not even close.

  • eric played this great, it's a deceptively tough tune to play, especially at this slower speed...the entrances for the shout choruses aren't on 1 even though you want to feel them as though they are...just some funky stuff to contend with on top of the range demands.

  • no balls from the rest of the section!! THIS IS FAVORITE SONG EVER AND ERIC'S MY FAVORITE NEX TO MF but could've been waaaaaaaaaay better. love the dubba C in the solo (never heard maynard do that one)

  • i think it's the soundman's fault for the balance problem because you have some sick players in that trumpet section...wayne bergeron, stan mark, and carl fischer...definitely no slouches there. i can't tell who the other two are though, but they're probably pros if they're on stage. also, denis diblasio on bari...real nice guy and excellent musician. gotta love stockton's conducting, he's a much better drummer than conductor. :)

  • The one next to Wayne is Roger Ingram...as you said, definitely no slouch! I'm curious as to who the other person is. Anyone know?

  • Carl Fischer, Stan Mark, Waynard and Roger.

  • No balls from the rest of the section?Do you realize that you have 5 of the top trumpet players in the US playing on this chart?

YOu sire are a troll or a idiot.I have not figured out which yet.

  • anyone want to explain why this is soooo slow.

  • The other version on Youtube, from the Canadian Stage Band Festival, is way too fast for its own good. This one could have done to be a tiny bit faster, but at least they played it clean.

  • This is a little slower than the album version (which you can hear at this youtube ID: tL1Fj7LJHDA) from M.F. Horn Two. That's from 1972 and (I think) predates all the faster recordings many viewers here seem to be familiar with. It's not that much slower than the album version unless you listen back-to-back and it becomes obvious. As many times as I heard Maynard live, this chart was sadly never played.

  • It's not too slow, this is the origional speed from the record. x.x

I do like it at a faster pace too however. xD

  • wayyyyy toooo slow just doesnt groove as well it loses energy

  • Abit slow, but still, amazing played. Also the band was just... boring, really :( but the playing itself was nice just not.. well, fun to listen to :p

  • i think he did i fantastic job!

  • He's good, but the mixing is just AWFUL! Even live, MF was seamless when he came in and when the other trumpets took over. Plus the band just lacked passion. It reminds me of when rockers get orchestras to back them up in cover charts. Y simply can't cover Maynard. Don't try. You just sound like second place.

  • too slow

  • the other one's are just really fast!

  • wow..from 1:40 - 1:47 look closely.. eric's blowing so hard it looks like there's smoke coming out of his horn

it's just vapor from inside his horn but that still looks freakin BADASS!

  • This is what happens when you play high notes correctly on a hot stage. He's compressing his air, if you look closely you'll see he's locking all his muscles around the navel area, Bobby Shew explains this breathing best IMO, many high note players if not all do something similar. The result on a hot stage is as steevojackass said BADASS...

  • thas creazy, i never caught that.

  • Anyone know what equipment he's using?

  • did anybody else notice that he was playing his trumpet cold. it seemed like no warm up or anything

  • -_-... u do know thats how the original was recorder.

  • Too Slow! Like Maynards version that is ripping fast.

  • Soooooooooooo Great!!!

  • moss84. Listen buddy. SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  • i went to school with scott englebright. this guy is terrible....

  • i don't think scott scott would agree with that!

  • Woah steam came out of his trumpet at like 1:46

  • and 2:50

  • @Studio1417 Like jax says, it's more like 1:42 or 1:44. I suppose his saliva is contributing a lot of moisture to the air shooting through that horn, in addition to the air pressure.

  • @Baritone45 Sorry about that. I believe YouTube used a different video player 2 years ago, so the time at which the steam appears probably changed.

  • @Studio1417 No need to be sorry. I just didn't want people to miss it.

  • @Studio1417 dude is blowing the devil out of the trumpet...

  • @Studio1417 i like ur name.. :P

  • Holy SHIT at 2:50.

I love Eric. This just shows how clean of a player he is.

  • i know you are joking!

  • yea Who cares who's better...It's about making music, not competing. It's not high school

  • well look... i have great respect for all these great musicians... cuz i will tell you one thing not any one of us is on that stage getting paid for that gig and we r not as good as any of those guys.. there is a reason why they are up there and we r watching them... i enjoy watching them all and i hope that i can have as much talent as any of them..

  • Love Eric playing the solo, and Wayne Bergeron is just sitting in the back blowing lead, letting someone else take the spotlight. Takes real class.

  • Why do most people feel the need to compare every trumpet player to everyone else all the bloody time? Yeah, we all have our preferances, but the fact is this guy is bloody good, and his trumpet playing should just be enjoyed... Same goes for Bergeron, Hession and others. I'm sick of the infamous 'trumpet player egos' constantly rearing it's ugly head.

  • i agree with you. its not about whose a better player its about the music and people forget that.

  • hey you hav a vid from this featuring wayne?

  • makes you appreciate how great MF really was. there will never again be anyone like him.

  • Again I don't see another Maynard here. He's goog don't get me wrong but Dan Richardson is much much better.

  • I assume you mean Dan is better than Eric?

  • Yes I do beleive Dan is better. Eric is good but Dan was playing Maynard tunes as a freshmen in high school.

  • Great big band jazz. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Oh... the drummer slows down through the whole song. The tempo at the beginning seems fine but then slows down as the song goes on. Terrible drummer. Horns Great!

  • Yes it seems a bit slow, no drive to it. But Eric is Awesome! Love it

  • Wow Eric seems to be the only one playing with a passion.Who ever is in the trumpet section sounds so unenthusiastic about playing this song,it is supposed to drive!
