  • Dit is cultureel erfgoed van de bovenste plank.

  • Legend!

Big up all my West Indyans...

  • Damn I va never him him live, but its so much hype....you hear his drummer, amazing talent. lol i may a little young to really enjoy his music, but my father is the one who introduced me to his music, unfortunately he passed. But I still listen to Ramdews music, its amazing. Legendary to hear that voice and drumming.

  • keith padarath tells that this is a video of class the lyrics are sweet as they are powerful. get on get on and love it.

  • Dit is gewoon KEIHARD!

  • His songs rock! He can sing nice.

  • test

  • Thank you Mikey, for the inspirational songs of Ramdeo Chaitoe. He is truly a giant and a great beacon for our culture. Whether we are Fijian, Sarnami,Guyanese or Trinidadian, we are one people , united by a great culture.

This song is most probably a ahirawa song sung by womenfolk amongst each other, having some fun at the brahmins expense.

Most wolds are figurative and not to be taken literally. ie Babhanwa ke ekhi hathwa, chuye saari aur which most probably means that , he touches my heart

  • @FIJIPLUS You're a Fijian retard and have no credibility. You uploaded a holi song from the "beaofIndia" website from Biraha Bhojpuri singer Shyam Lal Begana from Uttar Pradesh and claim him and his song as it was from Fiji????!? That is plagiarism, I already reported you for infringement. Here is some advice, NEVER PLAGIARIZE again....esp. from the poor...

  • @FIJIPLUS

Brother you are correct, we are all the same and we all share the same lineage. A professor of mine (a great, humble man in my opinion) has done a wealth of research as it pertains to the Indian diaspora, he has dedicated much time since the early 90's in tracing the roots of 'our' music in the Indo-Caribbean and Surinamese community, his name is Peter Manuel, do look him up as he illustrates how connected we all really are.

  • @fiv3stargeneral

theres a documentary inspired by his taan book, its under my classics playlist

  • ohay babhanwa ki ekhie godwa (the Brahmin has one leg) (implying he moves his legs around unnecessarily)

bhagey sari orrh bhagey sari orrh ( It moves everywhere)

mor man laga babhanwa ( I adore this Brahmin)

ohay babhanwa ki ekhie hathwaa (the Brahmin has only one arm) (implying he moves his legs around unnecessarily)

chuye sari orrh chuye sari orrh ( He touches everything around)

mor man laga babhanwa ( I adore this Brahmin)

  • @FIJIPLUS you are pathetic pal can you understand hidustanni or not

  • Babhena aawey jaay , Babhena aawey jaay (Here comes the Brahmin)

mor man laga babhanwa ( I adore this Brahmin)

Aawat jati aawat jati (Here he comes)

ohay babhanwa ki ekhie aankhiya (the Brahmin has one eye) (implying he has roving eyes)

taakey charo orrh taakey charo orrh ( He looks all around)

mor man laga babhanwa ( I adore this Brahmin)

  • The sarnami way of playing dholak really suits our music. Ramdew Chaitoe is a legend and as inspiration. His dholakia perfectly complements him. Sometimes we in Fiji, play the dholak, a tad too loud but this rendition is perfect.

  • boop boop!...one of my favourite song growing up in guyana ...the unstoppable Ramdew Chaitoe...

  • Mike,

Is there any live audio visual of Ramdeo?

  • The king of whole world Ramdew Chaitoe, He is my grandad

  • this dude is awesome!!!!!

  • keith padarath listens to this and fondly remembers his growing up days as an indo trinidadian, very thankful. ramdeo chaitoe is a great man. bless the memory that is now the man

  • lovve disz sonq!

  • Babhan means "Brahman, pandit etc. Just liek other indo-fijian folk "Samdhi awe jaye, samdhi awe jaye" . If you listen carefully it discribes the acts of the brahaman .. in fact nani is not wrong ..

  • a bit late I guess, but thanks for clearing it up. Maybe to make it even more clear: The languages the Indians/Hindustani's in The West Indies speak, all look alike, because their ancestors mostly came from places in India where they speak Bhodjpuri and Audhi. So the language they speak is actually a mix of mainly those languages. So sometimes the words are hard to understand because the meaning of it goes way back to India.(Excuse me for my bad English, I tried my best to make myself clear)

  • Could anyone tell me the meaning of Babhanawaa?

Cause I dont think it can just be Baba ... it must be Bhabhana Awe Jaay...

    Any surinamese ppl.... help?!

  • like Mikey already said in an earlier response to my similar question..it most like is Baba Na Aawe Jai, meaning "Father don't leave", the father in this case most likely referring to God =) Hope that helps!

  • thanks for that... but this is why i asked for surinamese ppl's help - i am a fluent hindi & vraj bhasha speaker; the word cannot be Baba; the pronounciation is Babhana. It seems peculiar to bhojpuri itself? later in the song it sez that 'that babhanawa has only one eye...it spies all around' 'that babhanawa has one hand... it touches all around' - where all around is a trans. for chaari or = chaar or. Its definitely more a fun/ teasing song than a religious one! I could be wrong...

  • no problemo..i see what you're getting at, maybe someone will help you out! =)

  • it could be someone's name, or just he's pronouncing the word baba differently..maybe?

  • toatlly wrong .this is a very old indo-fijian lokgeet(lokgeet=wedding songs). babhana means your son in law or daughter in laws dad. bahana awejai is him coming and going from the dads house.and his nani is wrong

  • I'm half Surinamese and half Dutch.. I do know that Babhana is a name, but I'm also not sure what is said in the song.. But specially for you I'll ask someone I'm sure about he'll give the right translation..

  • I just asked my nani (grandmother) and she says babhana is a other word for a Brahman, so the song is most likely about a pandit if my nani is right..

  • cool, what about the rest of the song though?

  • this man's voice is zzz-bomb, the real mc koy

  • Suriname!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think he is singing in bhojpuri dialect...Baba na awejai, baba na awejai, humro mann laga sajanwa ...not sure the rest .But the music and the wordings is catchy. The bhojpuri dialect is also spoken in Fiji Islands as well.e.g to say what is your name...thuhar naam ka hai.

  • te gek, zet meer!

  • the meaning of tamasa hi tamasa is great music...we really like it hihihi

  • Waaaah re ganaaaa tamasa hi tamasaaa

    baba na awe dja...

  • yes yes wahre baithak

just wondering--what does tamasa hi tamasa mean

  • Dance Lalo Dance, chalne do....!

  • i love this song..can someone please translate this for me...thanks ! =)

  • yeah, its a rel classic, I wish someone would translate for me too, I believe he's saying Baba(as in god), don't leave, and then something about the sight of god....Idk =]

  • yeah..i got that part Baba Na aawe jai "Father don't leave"...i just need to know the rest of the song..haha..thanks for your help! =)
