Spartan is faster and I like it but ul-1 is faster cause he can stay in throttle ad jot have to worry bout barrel rolling it while turning or anything!
@MrEric92886 Yeah got it back a long time ago. If you want yours to run perfect, do this to it. Leopard 4082 1500Kv motor & matching aluminum water cooling jacket. Turnigy 180amp marine ESC,
Got the cooling problems mostly under control by adding a second pickup for the motor. Now this boat is having drive line problems. Broke a shaft and knowbody has parts. Converted it to 3/16, made new strut bushing...this boat is not a "out-of-the -box" racer at all. If I new it was gonna be this much of a pain in the ass I wouldn't have bought it!
@redrider10 After running it non stop for that long I'm not surprised it got toasty. Most high performance electrics only have to survive a two minute heat then get a chance to cool off. Did the actual esc burn or did it just pop the caps?
@redrider10 I'd suggest about 3 minutes max. Both the esc and batteries will live longer. Lipos are not like nicad or nimh. They don't need to be run down to low voltage cutoff level as they don't develop a memory. Your 3s packs should still be at around 11v at the end of the run.
@bill34207 Cool man thanks...I'll keep that in mind. We run the crap out of our planes for as long as we can but it seems boat characteristics are alot different!

I'm running the Turnigy 5000mAh 3s 40-50C. They worked great...and they're cheap! $84.00 for two at Hobbyking.

Nice run!. I just got my Spartan after selling my UL-1. What is your battery configuration? 5000mah ?C.
It looks stable on the water without chine walk. Did you put it on sport mode?

The Spartran speed control burned. Traxxas has been cool about it so far. I sent the boat back last week so I'll see what happens this week.

@bill34207 Not sure...for warranty purposes I left it together and sent it to them (Traxxas). So I shouldn't run it for that long you think?

@redrider10 FE boats are the one thing I have found more demanding on bateries than the EDF's I fly.

@SinisterTV
If you have a UL-1 give 5s a try, but first setup your UL-1 to run 4s good.. You should see low 50's on 4s with it..
and if you do try 5s hang on!
brushless55 1 year ago
4s vs 6s?
try 5s in the UL-1 and watch out!
