I have always said that the "Special Relationship" exists between the two peoples and not between the two governments.
Britain and America are family and share the same blood whether the anti-Americans or the Anglophobes like it or not. They speak the same language, they share history and heritage, they believe in and worship the same Christian God, and both use the same legal system of Common Law.
UK is good too? If you rewind 100 years or so, we had an empire that spanned the globe, and slightly further back than that we were the richest and most powerful country on the planet; all from this little island. It's only limp wristed yes men that have brought the country to its current state, i.e., on its knees. Thatcher was the last good thing this country had going for it.
@ UnitedBritannia Camerons strong leadership !! wtf ?? Brown and only browns Cock Ups make Cameron , an alternative ! Cameron has No self induced policies,
He is typical of the Shakespeare , character The Lady does protest to Much! So by default, ie Browns bullshit we get a Bullock
Come now! It would be churlish to try and say that Cameron hasn't genuinely changed the Conservative Party through his leadership. Anyone that under-estimates him does so at their own peril.
me thinks you're kidding yourself. Cameron has done nothing to unite his anti-Johnny Foreigner party. They're the same bunch of multi-millionaires who couldn't give a toss about anything other than getting their greedy little paws on state assets to sell cheap to friends & family. The only thing holding them together for now being should they show their colours would likely loose them the forthcoming election
Engage in this kind of scare mongering if you must, but the British people are a better judge of character and policy than that, and that is why they are beginning to turn to the Conservatives.
Frankly I find it difficult to take anyone seriously that just regurgitates the same old tired lines of attack that have been spouted by the corrupt and morally bankrupt Labour party for decades.
These ridiculous attempts to reignite class warfare will always fail - the British have more sense that that
The Cons are not even split in two over the EU, being advocates of low levels of regulation [with which Noo Lab tagged along ='s the Credit Crunch] & low taxes resulting in relatively fewer gov't provided services, unlike the European model. This is why the Cons are ideologically opposed to the EU. But I'm no fan of Noo Lab. As for class war, 'til the UK is a republic, class is an issue hard wired into the UK. As for "tired old lines of attack" - what like Labour "tax & spend"?
Moreover, if the UK economy picks up & people realise the threat posed by ending the financial stimulus too early [a possible double dip recession] as advocated by the Cons though opposed by the Bank of Eng', the IMF & everyone, then the Cons winning the next election might not be so certain. Although you seem to take the UK people for granted judging by your channel & it's "V for victory for the Cons" slogans. Don't be quite so smug & sure cos the UK has not voted just yet eh!!
My point is not that any politician of any stripe has already "won" anything - the next election is by no means "in the bag" for anyone, least of all the Conservatives who have an electoral mountain to climb!
What I'm arguing is that the phoney dividing lines drawn by Labour, and their attempted character assassinations of anyone who dares to oppose them (Note - they've done it to people on their own side, not just Tories) will never succeed because the British people have more sense than that!
May I ask you to explain what it is you believe - will never succeed because the Brits have more sense, as well as what you believe are - "the phony dividing lines drawn by Noo Lab".
Regarding policy, I would say there is now some significant differences between the Cons & Noo Lab. i] where they see themselves within Europe. ii] As to when to reign in the fiscal stimulus, which is likely to prove to be profoundly important regarding the future recovery of the UK economy.
"The phony dividing lines" I speak of are this ridiculous idea that somehow ANY party winning the next election WON'T have to make drastic cuts to public spending in order to balance the books. Brown has FINALLY moved away from his laughably crude "Tory cuts vs Labour investment" line, but he still clings hopelessly to this notion that the cuts will be somehow more palatable under Labour.
I think this argument that restoring sanity to our public finances will destroy the recovery also needs to be examined. Firstly, the effectiveness of what has already been done by Labour after the initial crisis (save for bailing out the banks, which was essential I agree) is questionable.
And the cost of not reducing our deficit, and soon, would be dire. Do we really want to repeat the hopeless cycle of indebtedness, inflation and stagnation we saw in the 1970's all over again?
Regarding character assassination - I presume you refer to Noo Lab drawing attention to the Cons aligning themselves with amongst others, the Polish Law & Order Party & Mr. Kaminski. Having watched a piece on this issue during Newsnight (BBC 2 [Tues 24 Nov]) this issue is most alive.
Then there is the forced resignation of Edward McMillanScott over the Cons leaving the centre-right EPP group, as well as others amongst the 26 Con MEPs openly disagreeing with said move.
Actually, in terms of character assassination I'm referring to ways in which Labour have attempted to paint Cameron as an "out of touch" toff who will only look after the upper classes. It's just a useless stereotype, and one that was never levelled out Blair despite his very privileged background. It's an especially hollow line of attack given that under this Labour govt the gap between rich/poor has never been greater - they halted the social mobility that rose during the Thatcher/Major years.
And with regards to the controversy over European partners, perhaps people might care to look at the kind of people the Labour party associate with in the EU. Many with extremely held views, but they're on the left so I suppose - as the same old double standard prevails - they are not as dangerous. The hypocrisy is appalling.
But extreme parties are the reality of the EU and it's voting system. We had the far-left BNP elected in our own backyard! Another issue for the Europhiles to ignore.
Conversely, Hannan & Helmer [Eurosceptic MEP's] having resigned from the Cons over Cameron's refusal to offer a referendum on Lisbon, being likely to join UKIP. Furthermore, MPs such as Bill Cash are finding it difficult to contain Eurosceptic views, whilst Stuart Wheeler [Con financier] has defected to UKIP.
All of which go to prove the old divisions over Europe within the Cons are alive & well & need no exaggeration whatsoever. Will they hold together 'til an election??
I don't deny there are differences within the Conservative party over Europe, but I also believe that this is a party that is disciplined and determined to remain so in order to fix the grave problems we have in this country. Squabbling over the EU effectively lost the Tories three general elections, and put simply they are sick of losing by now.
Further, Cameron IS a Eurosceptic like the majority of his party. The reason the EU was such a divisive issue for the Tories during the 90's was because the party leadership were split on the issue. The argument within the party has effectively been won by the eurosceptic right; Cameron knows that and he'll be extremely cautious not to stray too far from what his party overwhelmingly believes.
The main point I'm trying to make is that none of us know how any opposition politician will actually perform when in Govt. Brown was going to be a bold and dynamic leader to strengthen and unite the Labour party - look what happened. Obama was going to usher in a new era of bipartisanship and cooperation - look what's happening, the U.S. is more divided along party lines than ever.
I take issue with anyone writing off a politician who has yet to even fight an election! It's jaundiced nonsense!
I agree the US-British relationship has always been special. This is obviously due to both our common language and our shared history. It was at its strongest with Thatcher and Reagan. However, with Barack Obama, I'm not sure he understands nor cares to understand how important strategically that relationship is.
I think you're probably right about Obama. I initially supported his campaign for the presidency, but I find many of his policies increasingly disconcerting. His policies indicate that he is trying to create a nation more dependent on Government than ever before, and he appears to be quite unconcerned about the huge deficits his administration are running up. Blaming Bush is wearing very thin now.
He will have very little in common with a Conservative Prime Minister Cameron.
Steady on - he hasn't even fought an election yet! I understand that people have disagreed with some of Cameron's initiatives, but he has made the Conservative Party electable again through his strong leadership.
I know many hard-liners are writing him off already, and I find it appallingly pessimistic. People said the same about Mrs. Thatcher before '79! He has the potential to be a great Prime Minister, and he's got my support!
I'm English and proud to be. Been to America three times and we both take the piss out of each other in a light hearted way.Forget the politics 'cos America is like a second home and I hope we stay the best of friends.
Agreed. If it came to a choice between a strong alliance with the US or a strong alliance with Europe I'd choose the US any day. Many European countries have shown they have no backbone in fighting international terrorism.
You know what they say, the Chanel is wider than the Atlantic!
Having an undemocratic Federal Europe rammed down our throats in appalling acts of betrayal by a despicable political elite doesn't help the average Brit's fondness for Europe, either!
I know a few who never voted for a Democrat in their life, but decided to give Mr. Obama a chance mainly because they thought he would be much more of a moderate, and also for historical reasons(i.e. first black president). They're all regretting that vote.
@mnts747 Coming from an American, I love to hear that. I wouldn't pick ANY other country in the world over the UK, G.B. Our relationship has been up and down, but it will NEVER stay down.
Its the truth and you can't change it you yanks are our brothers and sisters your just Brits for the modern age, the flag came from the British east india trading company and washington was an officer in the British virginia regiment. We share the same ideologies ... God bless America...God save the Queen
theutopiaclub don't you read any history, Armada scattered by the winds, Waterloo, mainly fought and won, by German mercenaries under the Irish F Marshall Wellington,.
captaincabs you mouth off without knowledge! during the Falklands Casper
Weinberger offered the Brits a USA Carrier should we have needed it. it was usa Sidewinders that shot down Argie aircraft, as well as out own Harriers, where as, the Brit Blowpipe was as useful as whore at a Pope Election
Why do we Brits insist on thinking we have a special relationship?
Dosnt every country like to think they have a special relationship with the superpower of our time? Does America have a relationship closer to Britian than it does to Canada or Mexico? I dout it...
Because we do, not in a personal way but a mutual way. We have a mutual understanding with one another, our time has passed as the worlds superpower and now its your turn, and it is seen as the way America is today owes it to the British, from the simple fact in where your flag originated from to the way your very country is run. You literally copied most things from us, but its not surprising seeing that ermm lets see? Nealry all Americans were once British? that might be it perhaps?
First and foremost- I am British. And maybe because im Scottish this changes my viewpoint on things but I still believe there to be no special connection between us. I love America, dont get my wrong. I just dont believe there to be anything special. And mostAmericans have german ansestory, not British. Sure America has copied some things from us (language for example) but apart from 13 states once being owned by us, it's hardly "special". America is a melting pot of many Europian cultures.
What? it was English colonists who founded USA, there dear washington was English, the flag was once English, it originates from a British indian trading company with the stripes but instead of stars a union jack (that was how it first was), later it had 13 stars added but still a union jack in the corner but smaller. And i as i said a mutual relationship not personal as people from other countries seem to believe, its sad that america has no 'identity', they have copied loads, even sports.
Well Washington wa born in British occupied America. Wither you define that as American or British is anyones opinion really. Britian may of got the ball rolling but you have to remember most of modern day America was obtained from the French and Mexicans/spanish. I still fail to see just why we started it all we have this mutual relationship. France helped them gain independance does that mean they have one too? Or Germans for being the largest population there? Americas invented lots of sport
Yes yes, some very ugly things have been done by white americans, there is no doubt about that. But is it any different in the UK? no its not, theyre ugly people everywhere.. and the list I can write you about your history is much uglier, should I? Still, what I said statistically is true, White's have the same criminal rate in the UK as they do in the US. Fuck racists. Please don't even talk to me about genocide when your country participated in the largest genocide besides Hitler
And as abhorrent and ugly as the KKK is, as much as I would do everything in my power to kill all those sheet-wearing bastards, they aren't all racist. MOST of them are racist but the KKK is somewhat like a secret society and many, good, honorable people joined it with the sole purpose to network with other powerful people. Senator Byrd for example
haha..your last point id agree with kylester and would be true IF i was British, but the Fact im not completely negates it
Now..British class, English Icon.. "Habeas Corpus".. Liberty
Rights for prisoner, determined if he or she is being imprisoned legally
Habeas corpus made headlines after america revoked this long-established right.with GUANTANAMO SHAME. Media such as MSNBC declared it was "the beginning of the end of America"..the New Yorker prophesied the "killing of habeas corpus"
I certainly hope so. I won't make unfair judgments about him because we know so little about him. But then I won't give him my complete love and support yet because he has yet to prove himself. I do agree with how he has handled his first 100 days however and my trust is building. But the fact is he started running for president after being a senator for barely two years...during which he hadn't accomplished anything. people love him or people hate him, never are fair until we know him.
I can tell you first hand that Ali74 is not american. He is british. He has also admitted to using the name slater071 on youtube. Other names he goes by are GSdudeUK and Guiseppe107. Im sure he has a billion other aliases. the guy has serious mental problems just look at the Ali74 homepage. You are wasting your time using commonsense on this fool. He is trolling you plain and simple.
hahaha.. i have served complete ownage.. to the extent i get marked down.. lol, i dont ever mark anyone down because they have zero effect on me... as when you are right as i am then the rest are dismissed... aint acknowledged.
Churchill as the Icon of WWII whos men won Battle of Britain single handedly 1940 saving the West in the process i admire, also Harold Wilson who refused to aid america at Vietman. With it being Vietnam holocaust and american baby killers.. Wilson was super smart.
so everyone can see this guy's treachery click the third video down on the right, in the box "related videos" there you will see a whole PLETHORA of comments marking a colossal man of ignorance known as Ali74.
He actually left this exact same comment on the other vid!!! To think that marking him down has SUCH A "ZERRO EFFECT" on him that he needed to post this comment twice!! Omg this fool cracks me up. zero effect LOL
"Mr. President, I believe you are trying to do away with the British Empire. Every idea you entertain about the structure of the post-war world, demonstrates it. But in spite of that, you constitute our only hope. You know it, we know it. You know, that we know, that without America, the British Empire won't stand."
Winston Churchill quote, while addressing Franklin Roosevelt during the Atlantic Charter Conference, August 13/14, 1941.
lolz... unknown soundbite...lol Kylester. Now... Legendary quote from the Icon of WWII before Britain single handedly won Battle of Britain 1940 saving the West in the process..
...''if we fail, the world including united states will sink into abyss of a dark new age''
Because Britain is the best at everything (and being non British i can say that..as SELF PRAISE IS NO PRAISE)..then that can evoke some jealousy, bitterness and downright green eyed envy in others. Sad state of affairs gents

lolz kylester..repetition is desperate call for acknowledgement, GOTCHA..haha. Before Britain singlehandedly saved the West in 1940 the Icon of WWII Legendary quote..
...''if we fail, the world including united states will sink into abyss of a dark new age''
america showed its debt to Britain awarding Churchill honorary us citizen as result. Russia were Top Dogs of WWII (Stalin americas Time man of year 1943).. HOWEVER.. British the Icons. Churchill, Spitfire, Merlin, Collosus..clean sweep
Haha please did you not read the passage!!!! Your leader sucked our dick!!! Here's more from your top General Montgomery:
first saw him in battle in Sicily and I formed a very high opinion of him. I saw him again in Italy. He is a very brave fighting man, steady under fire and with that tenacity in battle which marks the first-class fighting soldier. I have a great affection and admiration for the American soldier. I salute the brave fighting men of America. continued.......
I never want to fight alongside better soldiers. I have tried to feel that I am almost an American soldier myself so that I might take no unsuitable action or offend them in any way ... Rundstedt was really beaten by the good fighting qualities of the American soldier and by the team work of the Allies."
-Montgomery
hahaha monty new who did the real fighting!!! and you can say all you want about churchill but monty new who the REAL captain of our team was: continued.....
lolzzz.... Kylster...american military as a laughing stock and masters of Friendly fire.. A British World War II vets famous jingle...
When the Germans fire, the British duck,
When the British fire, the Germans duck,
When the Italians fire, nobody ducks,
And when the Americans fire,
EVERYBODY ducks
Kylster.. Britain as the classiest nation in the world, its Icons, miltary, people are a class above.. hence phrase "British is Best", as a non Brit it has merit coming from my goodself
Haha ok, we have Ali74 saying American soldiers are shit, then we have GENERAL MONTGOMEREY, THE BRIGHTEST MILITARY TACTICIAN BRITAIN HAS HAD IN A CENTURY saying that American soldiers are a force to be reckoned with, he even goes far enough to say he would rather fight alongside AMERICAN soldiers. Hahah you lose my friend you lose
Look at D Day.. america lost a massive disproportionate amount of men whereas the British and Canadians cleaned up the other beaches. One example of many of inferior american military - and i didnt even mention their friendly fire tag...lolz
america being a British colony for convicts would explain why being British waste the yanks (as British masters aptly termed them) are crude, classless, dumb, inept, gung ho, thick as shit ..its in the bloodline... kylester.
Your arguments growing increasingly boring, silly and void of intellect. On ONE SIDE we have General Montgomery a military GENIUS and on the other we have Ali74....sorry but I'll take Gen. Monty's word for it. American soldiers are simply the best. Next, you sound like a fucking racist...oh we must be crude and classless because who we descend from? Dumbasses have no bloodline they are universal. Finally, you unintelligent maggot infested vermin: Australia was the British colony for convicts..
...NOT America. You once again prove your inability to follow history as it really happened and I am almost drowning in your ineptitude. America was a colony where people fled the tyrannous monarchy at the time so they could practice whatever religion they so pleased without getting their head chopped off.
when it aint their Brits allies the yanks are killing its their own military.. that NFL player recently paid for it bigtime pigtime.
Uhmm incorrect... since early 1700's america was a prison colony for criminals from Britain.. Australia only followed 80 years later after France bailed america at the Revolutionary war after Franklin had led the begging. US site Flixster - "UK sent over its Criminals and religious crackpots way back when"
Yeah no shit, and do you know what defined criminals...anyone who didn't abide by the religious views of the British Monarchy. If you wanted to practice a different religion, or just be a catholic, or just start your own christian congregation you were immediately shipped off or beheaded by the Queen or King at the time. Game over
No no no..Kylester, its Criminals AND religious crackpots/fundamentalists, Britain discarded, resulting in..
Criminality statistics - Gun policy, More homicides in Houston per year than whole of UK, 3 times more likely to get raped in america than UK
Religion - Bible belt, fearing right wing lunatics, lemmings go to sermons and line pockets of filthy rich preacher who afterwards drives off in his Merecedes the dirtpoor gullible masses pay for. Most Religous Sects (Waco). Mormons (10 wives)
Mormons aren't allowed to have ten wives since the 1800's. Either way I very much disagree with that religion and MANY religions, but we leave people the right to choose to worship whatever they like, we aren't tyrants. At least we aren't like the British Monarchy letting heads roll right and left just because someone wanted to be catholic or protestant. And you're right our crime rate is appalling, that has nothing to do with who the British shipped in, it has to do with the fact we let every
Quote.."Since 1718, transportation to American colonies had been penalty for criminal offences in Britain, Over one thousand CONVICTS transported per year across Atlantic"
US site Flixster.."We're still mad UK used America as a dumping ground for all its Religious crackpots and Criminals way back when"

"when Thatcher spoke Reagan listened"
She was the brains and wore the trousers in the relationship. Although Reagan was much lampooned and mocked as a simpleton without any depth, plus spoon fed what to say.. he was a very well liked.
Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan- both believed in their countries and made them both much better, richer, stronger and achieved a goal im sure only they could- acheiving peace by breaking down the will of the Russians and communism. Heck, the Russians respected these two, i think that says it all. The shot where they are on the caddy and they salute is great, one of the shots of the 1980's i think. Why dont we have leaders like this anymore?

The only thing holding them together for now being should they show their colours would likely loose them the forthcoming election

Engage in this kind of scare mongering if you must, but the British people are a better judge of character and policy than that, and that is why they are beginning to turn to the Conservatives.
Frankly I find it difficult to take anyone seriously that just regurgitates the same old tired lines of attack that have been spouted by the corrupt and morally bankrupt Labour party for decades.
These ridiculous attempts to reignite class warfare will always fail - the British have more sense that that
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
Re: UB
The Cons are not even split in two over the EU, being advocates of low levels of regulation [with which Noo Lab tagged along ='s the Credit Crunch] & low taxes resulting in relatively fewer gov't provided services, unlike the European model. This is why the Cons are ideologically opposed to the EU. But I'm no fan of Noo Lab. As for class war, 'til the UK is a republic, class is an issue hard wired into the UK. As for "tired old lines of attack" - what like Labour "tax & spend"?
pinickityme 2 years ago
Re: UB
Moreover, if the UK economy picks up & people realise the threat posed by ending the financial stimulus too early [a possible double dip recession] as advocated by the Cons though opposed by the Bank of Eng', the IMF & everyone, then the Cons winning the next election might not be so certain. Although you seem to take the UK people for granted judging by your channel & it's "V for victory for the Cons" slogans. Don't be quite so smug & sure cos the UK has not voted just yet eh!!
pinickityme 2 years ago
Re: UB
For as I recall, Churchill wasn't giving it "V for victory" until the victory had been won, so you are somewhat premature!!
pinickityme 2 years ago
My point is not that any politician of any stripe has already "won" anything - the next election is by no means "in the bag" for anyone, least of all the Conservatives who have an electoral mountain to climb!
What I'm arguing is that the phoney dividing lines drawn by Labour, and their attempted character assassinations of anyone who dares to oppose them (Note - they've done it to people on their own side, not just Tories) will never succeed because the British people have more sense than that!
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
Re: UB [1 of 3]
May I ask you to explain what it is you believe - will never succeed because the Brits have more sense, as well as what you believe are - "the phony dividing lines drawn by Noo Lab".
Regarding policy, I would say there is now some significant differences between the Cons & Noo Lab. i] where they see themselves within Europe. ii] As to when to reign in the fiscal stimulus, which is likely to prove to be profoundly important regarding the future recovery of the UK economy.
pinickityme 2 years ago
"The phony dividing lines" I speak of are this ridiculous idea that somehow ANY party winning the next election WON'T have to make drastic cuts to public spending in order to balance the books. Brown has FINALLY moved away from his laughably crude "Tory cuts vs Labour investment" line, but he still clings hopelessly to this notion that the cuts will be somehow more palatable under Labour.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
I think this argument that restoring sanity to our public finances will destroy the recovery also needs to be examined. Firstly, the effectiveness of what has already been done by Labour after the initial crisis (save for bailing out the banks, which was essential I agree) is questionable.
And the cost of not reducing our deficit, and soon, would be dire. Do we really want to repeat the hopeless cycle of indebtedness, inflation and stagnation we saw in the 1970's all over again?
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
Re: UB [2 of 3]
Regarding character assassination - I presume you refer to Noo Lab drawing attention to the Cons aligning themselves with amongst others, the Polish Law & Order Party & Mr. Kaminski. Having watched a piece on this issue during Newsnight (BBC 2 [Tues 24 Nov]) this issue is most alive.
Then there is the forced resignation of Edward McMillanScott over the Cons leaving the centre-right EPP group, as well as others amongst the 26 Con MEPs openly disagreeing with said move.
pinickityme 2 years ago
Actually, in terms of character assassination I'm referring to ways in which Labour have attempted to paint Cameron as an "out of touch" toff who will only look after the upper classes. It's just a useless stereotype, and one that was never levelled out Blair despite his very privileged background. It's an especially hollow line of attack given that under this Labour govt the gap between rich/poor has never been greater - they halted the social mobility that rose during the Thatcher/Major years.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
And with regards to the controversy over European partners, perhaps people might care to look at the kind of people the Labour party associate with in the EU. Many with extremely held views, but they're on the left so I suppose - as the same old double standard prevails - they are not as dangerous. The hypocrisy is appalling.
But extreme parties are the reality of the EU and it's voting system. We had the far-left BNP elected in our own backyard! Another issue for the Europhiles to ignore.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
Re: UB [3 of 3]
Conversely, Hannan & Helmer [Eurosceptic MEP's] having resigned from the Cons over Cameron's refusal to offer a referendum on Lisbon, being likely to join UKIP.
Will they hold together 'til an election??
pinickityme 2 years ago
I don't deny there are differences within the Conservative party over Europe, but I also believe that this is a party that is disciplined and determined to remain so in order to fix the grave problems we have in this country. Squabbling over the EU effectively lost the Tories three general elections, and put simply they are sick of losing by now.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
Further, Cameron IS a Eurosceptic like the majority of his party. The reason the EU was such a divisive issue for the Tories during the 90's was because the party leadership were split on the issue. The argument within the party has effectively been won by the eurosceptic right; Cameron knows that and he'll be extremely cautious not to stray too far from what his party overwhelmingly believes.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
The main point I'm trying to make is that none of us know how any opposition politician will actually perform when in Govt. Brown was going to be a bold and dynamic leader to strengthen and unite the Labour party - look what happened. Obama was going to usher in a new era of bipartisanship and cooperation - look what's happening, the U.S. is more divided along party lines than ever.
I take issue with anyone writing off a politician who has yet to even fight an election! It's jaundiced nonsense!
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
I agree the US-British relationship has always been special. This is obviously due to both our common language and our shared history. It was at its strongest with Thatcher and Reagan. However, with Barack Obama, I'm not sure he understands nor cares to understand how important strategically that relationship is.
ZiuoxZui 2 years ago
I think you're probably right about Obama. I initially supported his campaign for the presidency, but I find many of his policies increasingly disconcerting. His policies indicate that he is trying to create a nation more dependent on Government than ever before, and he appears to be quite unconcerned about the huge deficits his administration are running up. Blaming Bush is wearing very thin now.
He will have very little in common with a Conservative Prime Minister Cameron.
UnitedBritannia 2 years ago
"He will have very little in common with a Conservative Prime Minister Cameron. "
And Cameron will have little in common with a conservative prime minister, more of a big state beauracrat.
smoochym 2 years ago
Steady on - he hasn't even fought an election yet! I understand that people have disagreed with some of Cameron's initiatives, but he has made the Conservative Party electable again through his strong leadership.
I know many hard-liners are writing him off already, and I find it appallingly pessimistic. People said the same about Mrs. Thatcher before '79! He has the potential to be a great Prime Minister, and he's got my support!

Why do we Brits insist on thinking we have a special relationship?
Dosnt every country like to think they have a special relationship with the superpower of our time? Does America have a relationship closer to Britian than it does to Canada or Mexico? I dout it...
Let's drop the act.
FlamingTide 2 years ago
Because we do, not in a personal way but a mutual way. We have a mutual understanding with one another, our time has passed as the worlds superpower and now its your turn, and it is seen as the way America is today owes it to the British, from the simple fact in where your flag originated from to the way your very country is run. You literally copied most things from us, but its not surprising seeing that ermm lets see? Nealry all Americans were once British? that might be it perhaps?
kyleWHV 2 years ago
First and foremost- I am British. And maybe because im Scottish this changes my viewpoint on things but I still believe there to be no special connection between us. I love America, dont get my wrong. I just dont believe there to be anything special. And mostAmericans have german ansestory, not British. Sure America has copied some things from us (language for example) but apart from 13 states once being owned by us, it's hardly "special". America is a melting pot of many Europian cultures.
FlamingTide 2 years ago
What? it was English colonists who founded USA, there dear washington was English, the flag was once English, it originates from a British indian trading company with the stripes but instead of stars a union jack (that was how it first was), later it had 13 stars added but still a union jack in the corner but smaller. And i as i said a mutual relationship not personal as people from other countries seem to believe, its sad that america has no 'identity', they have copied loads, even sports.
kyleWHV 2 years ago
Well Washington wa born in British occupied America. Wither you define that as American or British is anyones opinion really. Britian may of got the ball rolling but you have to remember most of modern day America was obtained from the French and Mexicans/spanish. I still fail to see just why we started it all we have this mutual relationship. France helped them gain independance does that mean they have one too? Or Germans for being the largest population there? Americas invented lots of sport
