  • WCW needed Goldberg. This was one of, if not the greatest Title match ever. And it was a switch where the Title was lost and went to a new champion. AND, it was done prime time. Not that Pay Per View crap that you have to wait a month for. This is one of the strongest moments in WCW history, and wrestling history. Visible to the world.

    Nostalgia is a great thing.

  • @BlandBoy it's respect.

  • we need a moment like this now just like we needed it then. moments like this just don't happen anymore.

  • i love to see Hulk Hogan get beaten

  • @Bilytkid

I would love to see you beaten.

  • somebody tell me please, what happened with the USS heavyweight championship's goldberg then this match, i don't remember Goldderg lossed it

  • You will never hear a pop like that again!!

  • You dont see this type of crowd reaction anymore, its a shame really, and also remember jumping up and down when i saw Goldberg win the WCW title

  • This was so awesome and sad at the same time. Awesome because of the intensity of the moment. Sad because you likely won't see this duplicated ever again.

  • goldberg can beat everyone

  • this was the highest attendence for a non pay-per view event for Nitro, I remember it like it was yesterday too.

  • thats a vintage WCW crowd right there... very lively during matches involved with nWo and massive pop for Goldberg... and vintage throwing trash in the ring lol way bigger pop then anything in WWE

  • This guy was NOT going to beat Stone Cold Steve Austin...he would've helped WCW stay afloat, though...for sure.

  • I remember this match like it was yesterday... AWW MAN... I still get the chill from hearing Bobby Heenan call the match... WOW... WHAT A MOMENT... This is when wrestling was fun... When you didn't know whether to watch WCW or WWF... The good ol' days!!!

  • @JaySCox you are sooo right!!!!

  • love it

  • They could have had him drop the title to DDP in October, never had the Fingerpoke of Doom, not had the title change hands every other week, or given it to ridiculous people with no business having the world title. They could have had consistency to their storylines, or actually carried through on the things they promised (Sting v Goldberg WORLD TITLE...wait no), not fourth walled the scripts every other week, etc. Pretty sure all those things had more to do with WCWs failure than this event.

  • WCW didn't die because this match happened on Nitro. Don't be stupid people. It died because moron writers couldn't figure out what else to do, about 4 months later.

This could have been a huge PPV match. They could have also ended Goldberg's streak with a 'real' match against another massively over star and not some lame interference gimmick. They could have not run stupid angles on him for two years, where he spears a metal breastplate and loses, or goes heel against a less popular star.

  • @Elusareth

I think they just didn't know how to respond to the pushback from the WWF. Especially since the WWF was able to go even further in terms of adult-oriented content.

  • This match should have main evented Starrcade, not Nitro.

  • @dukefan137

Well, WCW gave it to us for free on Nitro and blew RAW completely away. Now only did it draw a bigger attendance then any WWF RAW... but it out-drew any attendance at any WWF PPV at the time within the last 3 or 4 years of that time.

  • Hands down the biggest pop in wrestling history.

  • One of the biggest fan reactions Wrestling has ever had.

  • Eric Bischoff is a moron

He built this up for over a year and than gave it away for free on Nitro.

    No wonder WCW tanked.

  • They also had many WWF title defenses and changes is WWF RAW

  • Nothing to this calibur.

  • yeah what ever..

  • Are you serious? Thats why WCW was so successful - they actually gave the fans what they wanted to see. All you get nowadays on RAW main events is interference and stare downs because your expected to pay to see a decent match. Eric Bischoff was the best thing that ever happened to WCW.

  • @ROosthakid Ya, they were so succesful they were lost 7million the year this happened and 65 million the following year.

    How do you measure success.

  • @bassplays

It blew raw away. The ratings were through the roof. It's like saying when Dana White gives a way a free UFC PPV, it's a big thank you to the fans. WCW tanked because it was sold by AOL Time Warner to McMahon for cheap. They wanted to get rid of it. It was also the victim of corporate mismanagement after the merger. Not because NITRO WAS AWESOME
