  • If no one reads the description under your video, the wording of what you're saying in your video does leave room for someone to make the equal sign into a does not equal sign. You are saying "the correct answer is 4" instead of saying "the correct answer is = 4". When you do tricks like this, people will assume it is something where you have to over think, or "think outside the box" would be a better term for it. If you word this at a bar, make sure you clearly say =4 is the right answer.

  • @Torn80cj

    nice observation,...!

    Point taken my friend,...!

    you are correct,...!

  • @Torn80cj

I forgot,... when I do this in person,. I doo say to people,... "only move the toothpicks (or matches) in front of the = sign, so in a sense, I have said it that way, just didn't think of it while doing this vid,.... it's hard to think of every thing man,...!!!!!!!!!!!!

    peace,....

  • I have one. Move 2 matches, but still keeping all 16 of them in the math problem and the correct answer still has to be 4. The matches still have to represent the numbers the way they do in this video, in other words, no making digit numbers or Roman numerals, or breaking the matches in a number of pieces. All 16 matches have to remain intact and straight. Remember, the correct answer still has to be IIII (4).

  • make a Roman number like l+ll+lv = vll

    mean 1+2+4 = 7

  • 1+2+3= 6 U F'n Ediot!!!

  • so wrong....... the true answer is 123

  • hahaha nice one

  • That is pretty bad but really good at the same time.

  • Video and trick are ok.. Don't know why everyone is hateing?

  • ok this is a nother way ll-lllll=llll

  • you don't need to move any, the || is the absolute value sign, meaning that there was a 1+2+|1|.

    4.

  • another way is I+I+III=IIIII

  • @AKAcolide

no, I'm sorry,.. the question is not how to get it to add up,... it's to get it to add up to 4,... (not 5, or any other total)

  • 1+1+1+1=1111

  • Hm, or you can move one of the matches from 3 and put 1 to a plus sign

    ++2+2= 4!

  • 1 - 11 + 111 = 1111

  • WRONG,....!

you didn't re-insert the match you moved,.... this trick starts and ends with 16 matches,...

    nice try though,...

  • sad face : (

  • Why is it upside down?!

  • l+ll+lll=6

  • @KurdishSaladin

no, I'm sorry,.. the question is not how to get it to add up,... it's to get it to add up to 4,... (not 5, or any other total)

  • hahah u bad motherfucker haha

  • your descriptions kinda harsh dont ya think? i mean im no geek but still kinda over did it big time

  • ll+ll=llll

    ll+ll=llll

    ll+ll=llll

    ll+ll=llll

    ll+ll=llll

    ll+ll=llll

  • ll+ll=llll

  • i got it in few seconds

  • or move that match so it reads 1 x 1 + 111 = 4

  • no,... still wrong,... that's 15 matches anyway,..... gotta use them all,...

  • Can't you move the first match and do the same thing?

    Because +2+1+1 = 4

  • l+l+lll=lllll (i meant)

  • or you could take the stick he picked up and put it on the end.

    l+ll+ll=lllll

  • start: |+||+||=||||, solution 2: |-||+|||=||||.

  • haha nice :D

  • Four, four daddy, four!

    LMAO.

    Nice vid. :D

  • || + || = ||||

  • There's another way... just make the first plus a minus and look at it upside down!

  • what about making it -1 - 11 + 111

  • okay theres also another way :D

    its 1 + 11(2) + 111(3) = 1111(4)

take one from anywhere on the left side of the = sign and put on the right side, thats a correct equation then cuz 11(2) +111(3) = 11111(5) :D

  • no, wrong again,...

    the answer IS 4,...

it's stated in the set up,...

Plus the way you do it there are 2 of the sticks missing,... also stated in the set up all sticks are to be used,..

  • yes i know the ANSWER IS 4... but it can ALSO be 5, don't assume me wrong when it also can be a correct answer. you can tell your friends that theres 2 answers... doesn't matter, i mean cmon tho who will guess to make one a plus lmfao..

  • 1-1+1111=1111

  • nice try, but there's a stick missing,...

gotta keep them all in the problem,...

try this to someone,... let then sit there a while,... they will try all of these combos's,... make sure you leave room between the sticks in the I I I so when you cross it the sticks don't touch,...

    scuba

    scuba

  • |-||+|||=||||

  • wrong,... 1 - 2 equals -1,... + 3 it's 2,...

    where dod you learn math,...?

plus you didn't re-insert the stick you removed,...

  • wrong, cause you lost a stick,...

  • another:

    |+||+|||>||||

  • zal pl

  • its easy you jus take the 1 stick from the '2' and use it as a plus sign on the middle of the 3 sticks next to the equals sign lol

    thats pretty cool tho lol

  • I+II+I/I=IIII

    this works too :)

  • Hey, very clever!

  • or |+|||+||=||||

  • wrong ,... dummy,...

  • heyscuba, must you be such a prick when proving people wrong?

  • 1-2 is -1+3 = 2

    >.>

  • it equals six!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ok first of all, you suck, but u r clever

  • hahahaha, Thank you for showing us this, this trick has boggled my mind for 3 years already. I feel less dumb now lol :)

  • there's another way to do it lol

    2/2+3=4

    i'm a fucking genius lol

  • nice I didnt see that one...you can also do 1+2+1/1=4

  • hey i like your vid just started watching them i think im going to subscribe keep em coming going to try a few on my friends some time haha thanks for the ideas !! 5/5

  • question wasnt clear enough

  • Not to sound like a nerd, but the best "not 4" answer is if you move one of the sticks from the "2" to the "4."

    Then it will read:

    I + I + III = IIIII

    i.e., 1 + 1 +3 = 5, which is true.

    I love your videos btw.

  • well, he said you can't change the 4 at the beginning

  • dude, you totally could make the first one negative and it would work too cuz -1+2=1+3=4

  • i saw that straight away!

  • Very Easy! Move the 2 Sticks and shifting to In Between the 3 sticks by placing it horizontally to make a plus...thus rearrange the equation become 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 1111 (4).

  • thank you for understanding this simple trick,... jeez, some of these people are goofballs,...

just make sure when you set up the trick your toothpicks (or matches) in the 3 are seperated enough to make the 'plus' sign when you move the one toothpick over from the 2,...

  • or you could take one of the matches forming the "3" and send it after the = sign. so you get 1+2+2 = 5

  • I know, but the set up states, "it must equal 4 when done,..." not 5,...

    good thought though

please try this to someone,.. it will start a whole set of bar tricks I promise,.then do my 5 squares to 4 trick,...

  • Easy and funny, I should do this.

  • Did you even watch the video in full?

Did you even see what he did to fix it? 1+1+1+1=4 Looks like you are the retard.

  • hey ass juice,... watch the vid, read the info,... it's called "Bad Math" cause it is bad math ,... till you fix it,...

retard,... that's a compliment to you,...

  • Wow i bet you feel dumb xD lolz im 13 and i know what it realy equals but i have common sence unlike you

  • No it says 1+1 crucafix 1= 4

  • i take back my other comment about 1+1+3=5

  • Or... you can simply move just about any of the matches and make the "equals" (=) sign into a "not equals" (≠) sign, and the equation becomes valid, without changing the answer.

  • I've had people try that,...

all I can say is the answer IS 4,... so 4 is the CORRECT answer,... I pretty sure it is stated in the trick set up,...

it's funny how many people can figure that out but not the actual answer which should be just as easy,... I can't even find that symbol key on this keyboard?

    thanks for your input,...

    scuba

  • Four would still be a 'correct' answer with a match shifted to make the ≠ sign actually. It would indeed be correct to say that the combinations you made were not equal to four.

  • you people just don't fucking get it,... and you take the fun out of shit by being assholes,....

    listen butt face,...

    the answer "IS 4,... "

    it "DOES equal 4,... "

"DOES NOT equal 4" is wrong,...

no matter what symbol you put there,...

your lives must be a mess with your over thinking everything,...

it's a simple trick,... don't make it so complicated,...

  • I do get it, YOU don't, which is why you are evidently flinging insults like a monkey flings its shit - low intellect.

You just failed at your attempt to clarify when you wrote four is 'the CORRECT answer'. You didn't say the left side of the equation must be equal to the right side.

Saying that the left is not equal to the right is PERFECTLY CORRECT. You could have said four is a UNIQUE answer, in which case it would not have been.

  • God ! stop trying to be Goddamn smart and use your common sence !

  • Scuba, you're arguing math. It is perfectly fine to specify that ≠ is not a defined in the stick math system. But that assumption is no more obvious than the definition of =.

Your solution is not less trivial than Desprez's.

  • haha neato

  • haha funny

  • nice

  • that was cool
