  • I got turned on to these guys by a friend after turning her on to Aspen (formerly Cosmic Vishnu) a group from Portugal who also Kill it without the need for a vocalist. Check out "winds of Revenge " if you want a great example. rock on.

  • I truly love this guys. They opened the "post-rock world" to me with EITS, and this is one of my favorite songs. They deserve so much more recognition for this piece of art. Cheers!

  • the reason the drummer gets crap is because the tempo isnt solid. you only notice it if you are a drummer who has spent countless hours with a metronome in your ears. imo it's not a big deal, gives it a touch of rubato heh.

  • I played this track on my radio show last week. Just re-discovering this band. They have a great sense of texture.

  • i dont know why the drummer gets so much crap. his playing is tastefull never overt the top and compliments the overall feel of the songs very well. some times less is more.

  • more intense? not really, perhaps this song, but pelican have some pretty heavy, dissonant material

  • i think the rawness of the drummer just adds to the whole band...i saw them live with isis and they both fucked my head up for a good week..they never get old

  • Man, I don't why so many people knock the drummer to Pelican, I think he does a decent job. There's definately some chemistry there.

  • its cause he plays against the guitarists which in my opinion sounds amazing if u can do it right and well it wouldnt be pelican with out it

  • Yeah, I like him.

  • I'm not sure. I saw them live and he is a great drummer! I think it may be his recorded drum sound on their albums. It's not always the best (imo :p), but I recently heard one of the tracks on their new album on myspace and his sound is just amazing :)

  • another good instro rock/metal band are 'the fucking champs'.

  • wow, I havent heard anybody talk about those dudes in a while.

  • ha, yeah they are too unknown

  • check out Dosius Nuclear American Rain Dance" if you like instrumental music. Also play this video at the same time as Isis "In Fiction" music video. Bad ass. Thanks.

  • check out Dosius "Nuclear American Rain Dance" if you like instrumental music

  • ive seen these guys a bunch of times in boston ..........sick band

  • do you reckon there's a reason why both gojira's and pelican's respective albums that have environmental themes in them have the word Sirius involved?

  • Comment removed

  • cirrus is a type of cloud. Sirius is the name of a star

  • Hahaha, owned.

  • I just got the privilege of seeing them over the weekend in Orlando and they played this song...incredible! I love this band. There's so much passion in them.

  • he's very...wavy...at the beginning

  • most amazing band ever seen them live what an experience

  • Yeah, I had a rode trip last year, we were driving through the Alaskan Wilderness and all we had was "The Fire in our Throats Beckons the Thaw" and it's like the music conformed to the landscape around us, really powerful stuff.

  • Pelican is fucking awesome indeed, no matter how you say it! Their music SPEAKS, no lyrics needed, it is breathtaking, amazing

  • awesome.. ill try and get the video up from their gig i seen two months ago ..,, i recorded it from this exact same position.

    epic gig!!

  • q temazo!!!!

    sirius

    saludos

    pelican lo mejor!!!

  • No idea what you said, but it looks convincing as hell.

  • He said they're fucking awesome!

  • Ha, knew it'd be something along those lines.

  • are they strictly intsramental?

cuz im not sure if i wanna go see them live with circa survive or not...

  • This music needs no fucking lyrics. It speaks volumes.

  • you would listen to circa survive wouldnt ya

  • Yes, and I can actually bear sitting through this band, I like em. Last time I tested my patience, and nearly killed myself from back pain standing through 'Ours'.

  • haha i hear ya there. i saw them open for circa survive. the rest of the bands were amazing (fear before the march of flames and the dear hunter) but Ours made me wanna fall asleep.

  • All of those bands you just named are TERRIBLE.

  • just like your face

  • all you morons with no attention spans. i'd like to see one of you cretins listen to a band like Robedoor.

  • Lets hear em! Ill get back to this in a sec.

  • Robedoor > Ours

    However...Im still pretty convinced that,

    Circa Survive > Robedoor.

  • I'd like to see anyone listen to Robedoor.

Their shit on youtube is retarded.

I wanna see a video of the Joe Kittinger space jump with Pelican playing in the background.

  • Yeah stick to blink 182 kid.

  • I'll stick to Pelican thank you.

Go suck some more Robedoor dick kid.

  • lol

  • Pelican is ridiculously awesome! All their songs are epic...

  • This band has been a SNOOZE fest that legendary Self-Titled EP. That record was a monument. After that, someone must've cut their balls off, because Australasia was HUGE dissapointment.

  • you must be smoken crack to say that...Australasia, in my opinion, is one of the best ones. Their other albums are solid... plus they are amazing live!

  • well yes because we are intelligent humans and the hip hop crap idiots not XD

  • How is that racist? There are White rappers, Asian Rappers, Hispanic Rapper, I even once saw a Antartic Rapper.

  • omgz0rz really??!!??!!? Was he iced out???

  • wow you just completely avoided that valid point

  • I know you are but what am I?

  • Isn't that interesting? Comments to a Pelican video are long and intelligent, while comments to some rap crap look like this:

"omg yo dat vid iz da bom i can rap lyk dat wach yo yo yo yo yo u no dat iz so gud"

  • Have you heard of underground hip-hop you dumb fuck?

  • No.

  • Yeah, 'cause you're a dumb bitch.

  • black metal ? XD

nice song, its the first song i hear of them and they rock ..

  • Not their best performance but the song kicks ass like hell, I can understand why people give so much negative comments about them since not many people can accept these post-metal bands, I for one would say you can never compare one sub genre of metal to another one is unique in other way or another

  • in my opinion pelicans drummer is what makes the band somewhat unique not in his techanicality but his proto drumming style. I;m not the biggest fan but i have 2 say i like the band not unique but different in there own way. and yes im drunk and i am a drummer

  • I totally agree, it is extremely unique, like all the bits that post rock has left out and pelican has taken them all together and formed its own trashy post metal sound. And the drummer is pretty awesome in his own right, again, how unique it is.

  • not their best performance but still good

  • fucking brilliant

  • People who spend time putting a label to a band and then pushing it on others are missing the point of music and sound like idiots. It seems like suddenly we have millions of music experts... who are far from being. Hopefully I won't run into any of you dipshits in public, it would ruin my mood.

  • anyone that says isis and pelican aren't similar is a fucking idiot.

o.k. so whats closer. isis and pelican, or pelican and paula abdul? or isis and the beegees? or pelican and hootie and blowjobs? isis and pelican are both stoner rock/stoner metal/drone metalrockcore ambient stoner. they are different bands, so they dont sound exactly the same, but they are similar.

  • listen to them thoroughly and come back to me.

  • Yes they are not the exact same band. I think you are missing sharktoungue's point. Slayer and Pelican don't really match up like Isis and Pelican or Tool and Isis right? The only thing that matters is that you like what you listen to and feel pationate about it, and I think/hope that goes for everyone who is watching this.

  • asandharut knows wahts up

  • I don't think Isis and Pelican are smiliar. Am I really a 'fucking' idiot just because of that?

I think there are big differences, no, VAST differences between Pelican and Isis. But let's all stop labeling these bands that go beyond labels and enjoy them for the bands they are! And maybe we can stop calling each other 'fucking' idiots as well! :D

  • Both are overated tripe.

  • haha, if you honestly think pelican is an overrated band then you know absolutely nothing, this band is too good.

  • Yeah, I'm stupid because I don't like your favorite band. Ass Candle.

  • no your an idiot becuase you called this band overratted. have you actually listened to them? they are a very good band man, simle yet complexx instrumentals from all very talented musicians, isis i can say is not that great but this band is very unique once listened to thoroughly.

  • Maybe if you can get past their terrible drummer.

Australasia was a really good record

The Fire in Our Throats was pretty good

    Untitled EP was really good

    City of Echoes... terrible

    New EP... terrible

You'd think after this many albums the drummer would be able to be improve. But no, same sped up rolls, slowed down double bass, and general bad drumming. If they got a new drummer they'd be able to compare to Isis. But as it stands, no. Isis is a much more solid band.

  • wow...well to each his own i guess, but nice if you're a tortoise fan.

  • You're actually the first person who has figured that out from my username. Kudos!

  • And I know that looks sarcastic, but it's actually 100% true.

  • I dunno, Im always in 2 minds about the drummer, I do agree with you on his ability and rubato performance etc, but I think it just gives the music more of that signature sound. I definitely think pelican are one of those bands that require a bit of listening before you really "get them" if you see what I mean. That's how I found it anyway.

  • Honestly, I agreed until City of Echoes. But some of the drumming on that record is just incredibly bad. Everything to The Fire in Our Throats will consistently be in my CD player, probably for a very long time.

  • Hmm, yeah that seems to be the general view with people that I've talked to, not that I've heard anything aside from the fire in our throats. But it seems a shame because I always pictured pelican a band that was going to get gradually better by adding more layers to their music, because as much as I like them, I always felt that there could be another layer of sound like singing or a higher melody. Maybe in future releases anyway.

  • I like what Pitchfork tells me too, they told me to not like Pelican anymore. I like Black Metal now.

  • enjoy...

  • pico pal q lee!!

  • Yes they do compare to isis in a way. How can you guys say they dont compare? same slow/melodic/doomy/melodic/stoner metal or similar in most instances. the only difference is that Isis is a little more ambien music due to their keyboard guy and the high tech instruments plus the vocals here and there. They both are awesome!!!!! how come they are so underrated? damn awesome band!!!

  • woot im seeing pelican tonight at the viper bar in hollywood, isis and pelican dont sound the same to me but watever, they both pwn

  • this is a great band!

  • I just saw Pelican play in Tempe just last night. It was fucking awesome!!

  • I cant believe I missed that show....I could walk to that place....sigh...

  • The only similarity Isis and Pelican share is that they're both really instrumental. Isis having vocals scattered here and there in their songs and Pelican is instrumental only. Otherwise soundwise they sound nothing alike. I've seen both bands live and they're both amazing.

  • Saw these guys last year, amazing show. This is a good song too

  • not comparable to isis. I love the weird sounding chords they us... great band saw 'em 3 days ago!

  • These guys are fucking fantastic

  • stop comparing them. apples and oranges. just listen to them or don't. neither is making music to be better than anyone else and so they should be judged only against themsleves.

  • Almost as good as Isis?

    They're better than Isis

  • matter of opinion. Isis is more tight knit

  • Saw them a couple years back. The show was 21+ and we were like 16 at the time so pelican came outside and got us in. Really nice guys.

  • one of the best bands out there!!! they should tour with Explosions, that would be my dream bill.

  • that would be the greatest show ever

  • They're almost as good as Isis!

  • saw these guys a couple months ago

pretty sick they never played autumn into summer tho

  • amazing song...

  • One of the best bands out there right now!!

  • i would love to see a live version of "march into the sea"

  • I love every studio album this band has done, but when I saw them live, I was severely disappointed. This performance actually looks pretty good. Got anything else from it besides Last Day of Winter?

  • I don't remember the songs at this moment, but I'll find the files and get back to you with a setlist...

  • I also must say, last performance i saw of Pelican also upsetted me. I expected them to be louder.

  • lol this is sirius...

  • No shit sherlock. The other video dude has is Last Day of Winter.

  • insane band. i saw them play with Mistress in Birmingham in the UK and they tore the place to pieces.

  • I was at this show and it was amazing. Pelican always is!

  • I was at this show and it was amazing. Pelican always is!

  • absolutely amazing musicians! great -underrated- band!

  • I have been a music lover for over 30 years, so I can still remember the days when...etc. I ran across these guys some weeks ago and I have to tell you I`ve never heard their likes before; pelican`s interplay is awesome...if you like this, check out king crimson`s "red". don`t miss pelican`s godlike album, "fire in our throats"...and hey! did you notice? no dumb rock music lyrics! thanks to pelican, that`s finally over and done with!

  • i was here along with only 14 other poeple .they were the only band on the last minute bill... amazing .. .

  • Brilliant song. This band is amazing.

  • I couldn't agree more.
