  • Great Video.

I want to see more presentations of Diana, how can i do?

  • @dvcsilva Just type her name in the search box. There will be a multitude of videos to choose from.:)

  • @flowersings couldn't have said it better myself :)

  • She is a rare one who doesn't drop "ia" which means "yahweh". Most sopranos just perform music but Diana is trying to articulate the true meaning of the word "Alleluia"

    Bravo Diana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW. I just watched Renee Fleming butcher this piece.

And Damrau does is AMAZINGLY. Why can't she be as well known as the people who can't even sing as astoundingly as her?

  • @hotqueekboi true, I told my singing tutor i was listening to this version to learn with as it was the best I have found.... she had no idea who she was, until I said queen of the night.... the name meant nothing to her.... very sad.... cause Like I said, this version is the best I found,

  • Bloody hell, she's such a good performer. I can't help feeling excited at her almost profane way of singing this religious song!!!!

  • What exuberance! What joy! Thanks for posting:)

  • Any other song that just uses a single word repeated several times over would be hideous and awful. However, the combined geniuses of Amadeaus Mozart and Diana Damrau really do make it a testimony to true art.

  • Ms. Damrau, you are sublime!!!!

  • radiant.

  • Now I can die

  • I love her face in this video. She absolutely shines!

  • She is the goddess who wilts the Sirens

  • she also has a nice smile as she's singing

  • guillermoger1: Ella además es muy linda y la interpretación fantástica. El Director de la Orquesta fabuloso: él vive las canciones. Verle la cara es otro espectáculo

  • I love her little dimples!

  • I adoreeee her!!!!

  • One of the finest coloraturas to come along in a long time.. Mature voice, effortless notes and diction and absolutely pitch perfect. Ms Damrau is the standard by which other sopranos should judge themselves by. It is not enough to just hit the notes. One must live the music and Ms Damrau does.

  • @goblinonacloud Dessay does all of that too.........just saying, and Dessay's FANTASTIC!!! I LOVE Damrau though!!!

  • i love Zubin Mehta! If I were a conductor, I would probably be most like him. He is so involved whenever he is with a singer, it's wonderful.

  • als Königin der Nacht ist sie viel besser... Aber ihr Lachen ist echt schön !!!

  • bravissimoooooooooooo

  • Lilith, thanks for uploading this. Ms. Damrau is simply divine; I have not been able to get enough of this song lately!

  • @bob050184 You're welcome! :D

  • @bob050184 same

  • Superb ! Tendecy to perfection ! Thus, I shall describe my favorite OPERA singer .

  • Damrau is exquisite but let's not forget Mehta. What a joy to see him so involved and expressive. Marvelous video. Thank you.

  • Effortless! OMG! such a Beautiful , Talented , Gifted Artist she is....Love her!

  • Diana D is the bomb. Effortless, ringing high notes, charm, coloratura for days, fantastic intonation. And she is a terrific actress. Just saw her in Barbiere di Siviglia at the Met and she rocked the house. Wish Juan Diego Florez had been in this production. That would have been perfection.

  • Diana IS the Queen of the Night! Everyone else is a pretender!!

  • what an effortless high c!!! brava!

  • Don't know, but Die Zauberflote was great!

  • Please, could somebody tell me why(?) Diana doesn't "Queen of the Night" anymore??

Her acting in Mozarts best Opera is incredible! No one can beat her as THE QUEEN...

    Please Diana, bis... bis....!

  • Well, according to Hevert von Karajan, it destroys the voice. I guess they only sing it for a limited period. The 2 sops I know who have subg it on the opera stage did it when they were quite young then never re-visited. He's quite free with his view on it in the Sumi Jo / HVK vid on here.

  • She is so pleasant! :)

  • Wish I could sing like that..

  • She is amazing good!!! She if one of my favorite singer!!! =D

  • Amazing. The effortless coloratura and high notes.. the smile.. the dimples. I think I'm in love :)

  • she's so full of life!

  • @Contrubas, I thought I was imagining the same thing:):)

  • Diana Damrau is positively breathtaking in her singing!

  • Too bad she's giving up the role of the Queen of the Night from now on. I wish I could have seen her perform it live just once...

  • @nilesjunk

you are so right!!! I love her interpretation of "Der Hölle Rache"

  • i love her as the queen of night she gives the most amazing performance

  • she must be the queen of the day in here... her smile are as bright as sun shine!

  • Cuteeeee comment :) Thanks for commenting!

  • You need to (if you haven't already) see this lady sing Mozart's Queen of the Night... it is simply awe inspiring, she is fabulous!

  • Shame the camera work focuses on the 'oh so bored out of their minds' string players and not the singer. She is fantastic!

  • You are so right... Thanks for commenting!

  • @Contrubas They're concentrated, not bored.

  • @Contrubas Maybe the string players weren't bored; maybe they just look serious because they're concentrating. It would be more amusing though if everyone in the orchestra had a big, crazy grin like the soprano.

  • @Contrubas nah, the violinist is the 'first chair' violinist, the best violinist in the orchestra. but yes, all else who sing this song is put to shame by her magnificence.

  • oh,how brilliant,,is she romanian?

  • She's German.

  • I wish she were...

  • She were what? German? xD

  • ¡¡¡Aleluya!!!...La disfrutaremos en Madrid muy pronto...

  • Fabulous tempo.. she's just amazing..

  • exquisite--ther'e's just no other word for her.

  • ditto:)

  • ¡Bravo Diana! ¡Bravo Mozart!

  • PERFECT!

  • Ms.Damrau is on her way to being as wonderful to listen to and to watch as the great Lucia Popp. Brava!

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Wow- her cadenza (I think- 2:18) is just amazing.

Such a strong, unique and beautiful voice.... just like her personality!

  • Her motto is: Attacke! xD

  • Romanian...ahahahha...she would come here if so..But she is good no matter what she is....lol:)))))))))

  • I see, so it was wishful thinking xD

  • Repasando mis Favoritos, me encuentro con esta joya...una voz excelente, una mujer elegante, una gran orquesta dirigida por el mejor Mehta y...una pieza sublime de Mozart

  • I didn't understand all the operatic descriptions of "light and free-floating." But this performance makes that description make sense. Her voice goes down, touches, and springs back up! Amazing!

  • Maravilhosa!!!!!!

  • A radiant smile!

  • Aww! Her dimples! :D

  • In addition to her usual awesomeness, she's always a class act! The applause continues and she comes out to deliver another bow with an air of "Oh, you're too kind!".

  • So true! For being such a huge opera star, she has none of that ridiculous "diva" nonsense. Diana's just so likable!

  • G O R G E O U S

  • I Loved her in The Magic Flute, and now I'm falling in love all over again!

  • Ahhh...Goddess of song!

  • Gorgeous!

  • I love diana. Such life in her singing! I saw her in l'Elisir d'Amoure at the ROH in london and it was so good I had to get another ticket and I took her flowers.

  • Ah, jealous... :( I could only see the show once!

  • Love how she is dressed, love how happily she delivers this.

  • hmm... which came first?

  • La música la pone el Genio, Mozart; la voz, una magnífica soprano, Diana Damrau; la dirección de orquesta, un grande, Mehta, que disfruta tanto como alguno de los violinistas.

  • Queen of the night and queen of opera!

  • hermoso,felicidades.Bravo mozart.

  • Folks, it doesn't get any better than this.

  • *claps* *claps* Brava!

  • I have to sing this for a Nyssma solo...... I'm gonna have to practice practice prastice!!!

  • Love Mozart, love Diana, love the hairdo and love the fur

  • Brillante, brillntísima Diana...Qué calidad...La excelencia...Gracias, Mozart. Gracias, Diana.

  • La magir de Mozart me boulverse à chaque fois. Que de beauté servi par une interprète extraordinaire!

  • excelente

    bueno Diana eres impresionante

    increible actitud para cantar...

  • Cecilia Bartoli is also great in this aria... I love them both!

  • bravissima!

  • Beautiful singer, glorious sound - you can tell she is getting high on her own voice and the music!

  • perfect singing mozart

  • so much nicer than c. bartolis

  • Where can i find the instrumental part only. Diana Damrau rocks!!

  • What a delicious performance. Thanks for posting. This really confirms that the Exultate Jubilate is best performaned by a Lyric-Coloratura. I have listened to and watched countless performances od this piece over the years and a high but full voice like hers awlays delivers a sound that seems to capture the line best and define what Mozart had in mind. Thanks again for posting this!

  • Excuse me if I am wrong but isn't Diana Damrau a dramatic coloratura soprano?? Just an excelent performance... what more can I say?

  • No, she's a lyric coloratura, it's just that her voice is really special. I heard her live yesterday and her voice was SO powerful she was singing with her mouth closed (!!!) and the last rows of a quite large auditorium could hear her!

  • ok... I just read that she was a dramatic, she certainly sounds it....

Oh well shes awesome... is there a film of the concert you were at???

    (her mouth was closed???)

  • No, but it was recorded. If I get the recording, I'll post some bits :)

Closing the mouth (and also covering it with her hand delicately) was for the pianissimi. This way she lowered the volume. Controling her voice must be really difficult!

  • wikipedia said she was dramatic coloratura

and she sang queen of the night aria for dramatics

  • Well, wikipedia is NOT a source one should always trust. She is a lyric coloratura. Dramatic sopranos don't sing Pamina.

  • it seems so easy as she sings it... Musical perfection with a winning smile on her lips, just fantastic!

  • exquisite performance!

  • My God, did she ever nail that!! Perfection!

  • *.* first class :>

  • haha i love her stage presence!!!!!!

  • An Angel!

  • Her singing is perfect but I still prefer Barbara Bonney's voice.

  • Go listen to Diana live, maybe you'll change your mind ;)

  • I saw her singing Pamina at the Met. I love Diana and I think she's one of the greatest sopranos of our time. But in my opinion no one can top Barbara's clarity for Mozart's religious pieces.

  • Well, we've got an expression in Spain that says there is a colour for every taste ;)

  • I think I couldn't choose one. Booney broke me into pieces with her performance of Mozart's requiem. But Diana Damrau played the most evil and amazing queen of the night I've ever listened

  • this is perfection..far better in every way than anyone else in diction, dynamic, control, ease, support, and tone

  • is this nevhi mehta conducting? this is absolutely fabulous Diana! many good wishes.

  • It is Zubin Mehta :) Thanks for commenting!

  • Where have I been that never heard you.... and I've heard many! Love your coloratura.... mia Diva!

  • would anybody believe that this lady singing here, with that expression of peace in her face,is the same who sings in "der holle rache"Faenol aug 08, with fury and anger comihg fron her gads...if it is not to be an artist... SHE IS THE GREATEST. Some could have better voices but no one resists to be compared to her as an artist, not before, not today,I don`t know tomorrow...

  • Diana Damrau is the best

  • Absolutely my favourite Diana Damrau 4ever!

  • my dear god, she is flawless. her voice is absolutely divine and she's one of the best actors i guess. look at her impression. god bless you dear Damrau.

  • Divine voice, divine interpretation...May God always protect you!

  • 1:56-1:59- When I hear other singers perform this piece, I always miss the declarative, triumphant "Alleluia!" Diana delivers here.

From a purely vocal standpoint, this is NOT my favorite performance of this piece, but to hear AND watch Diana sing it is just heavenly. She sings the alleluia, she proclaims it, she offers it to God. The meaning of "Alleluia!" is written on this performance like no other, in the way she sounds AND looks. That's why this rendition is my overall fave.

  • Brava!

  • I added this to my favorites :-) She's flawless

  • Fabelhaft. Schön, dass sie so seraphisch lächelt!

  • She is charming both in her singing and in her appearance. What a gift from heaven for her and for us! Thank you for posting this video. I enjoy it, and I feel happy when I watch Diana smiling. :-)

  • before I read you comment,I was going to write exactly the same things. But i want to add that if God watches videos in Heaven this must be His favourite...

  • Why sure! One of His daughters singing so joyfully to Him...it's gotta be on the short list of favorites! :)

  • Que hermoso se escucha, no cabe duda que Diana Damrau es una soprano excelente!

  • great talent:)

  • they clap for so long !!!

  • And still is not enough! ;)

  • she is beautiful and her voice is just a gift from god . . . and I am surprised to not see those animal rights people creating stink on this thread for her mink stole. LOL

I guess they missed a thread.

  • xDDDDDD Maybe it's not true mink. Hm. Anyway, I'm quite sure the mink would be REALLY proud to be around her neck! xDDD

  • rofl.. but really, the mink's probably at least somewhat compensated by that.

  • Can't stop watching those cute dimples.

  • She is absolutely superb and to my mind couldn't be bettered.

  • hmm is that music folder in her hands just for show?

Doesn't seem like she'd need one.

  • Some singers have it just to feel more comfortable on stage :)

  • i do that all the time even if i have it memorized just incase im like shit what comes next

  • I guess it was not because of the lyrics but for the music, in this case xD

  • It isn't standard practice to memorize Oratorios. She's probably just holding it for tradition's sake.

  • absolutely.

  • She is wonderfull, excellent vocal technic and a presence such as noone else! By the way, she is a pure beauty! Aslo an elegent woman!

  • I LOVE this music, especially sung by Diana.

Its better than singing Der Hölle rache in a church! XDDDD.

  • is that Zubin Meta conducting?!

  • Yep. "Mehta", actually ;)

  • oh dear:S I can never remember how to spell his name. thank you!

  • Hahaha Don't worry ^^

  • Where can I get a DVD of this or a audio CD? She is IT!!!! Move over everyone else who has ever done this piece.

  • There's no recording of it available... I found it on the emule, but unfortunately you can't buy it :(

  • Thanks for your reply. Perhaps a group needs to storm her website and demand one be made??

  • I guess it's too short for a DVD. And, anyway, normally the singers doesn't decide on what to record. I guess we just have to be grateful for what we get... *Sigh*

  • If MOZART would be here today he would choose her as the best interpreter for every piece...GREAT DIANA !!!!!!

  • OMG that was the best Allelujah I've ever heard in MY LIFE!!!!! Diana Damrau is well and truly THE BEST!

  • I love it, she has a beautiful voice and tone, I live a fierce soprano who has control, and Damrau has all of that and some!

  • it's an excelent interpretation. I loved it.

    Wonderful! congratulations!

  • Truly inspirational!

My voice coach believes I could pull this peice off for competitions in six months.

I'm scared out of my wits.

    This is such a motivation.<3

  • Aw, I wish you the best of lucks! Thanks for commenting ^^

  • It looks so easy and that's the point.. We don't want to see the sweat equity it takes to do this... Keep working. Everyone has starting points...

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Oh my gosh.

Before listening, I had a terrible headache (and I mean terrible), and at 1:57, it entirely disappeared. How amazing is this woman? She is certainly one of the best singers of our days, just look how she smiles while she is singing "Alleluja". Is it possible not to love her? ;-)

  • No, that's impossible xD

  • amazing! The same thing happened to me just now. I think her voice has naturally soothing qualities to it.

  • i seriously worship the ground this woman walks on. i saw her live at the met a couple years ago and have been dying to meet her ever since.

  • can't help it... doesn't her face while singing alway look a little evil? maybe that's why the queen of the night is her best one XD

  • No, she doeeeeeesn't lol You should meet her. She's incredibly charming and cute. Take my word for it ;)

  • See Zubin Mehta conducting this with charm and grace...cheers to him too !

  • I never, ever get tired of watching this.

  • Ok, this is driving me crazy! Anyone remember the Anne of Green Gables movie with Megan Follows? Does the guy playing violin starting around 1:28 not look EXACTLY like "Mr Phillips" the school teacher?

  • Now that you mention it... LOL
