@MrTrickysticks It is said that Murasa is the ghost of a girl who drowned at sea. She wanted to have a name for herself so she started causing shipwrecks. Byakuren knew this was wrong, so she turned Murasa around and gave her a ship that resembled the one she was on when she was alive.

@RandomCommenter707 Actually, Nazrin is technically Shou's follower, not Byakuren's. Also, she's mostly there to keep an eye on Shou, since making a youkai a disciple of Bishamonten is... unorthodox, to put it lightly.

@tomosumi Zun had thought to use him as the last boss instead of her, since he was a real person, but decided against it because it would be wierd to have a male final boss after 11 games of all female characters. At least I think that's what he said in his UFO interview.

That "evil" smile, isn't evil at all, it's kinda..a frustration of the past. In the past scene, show her as a old woman. But with the magic, she become younger again. Her frustration, is about to "can't accept" the brothers death against her youth by magic. Something like that :)

@KimDoeYoung actually she's probably at the brink of crying. When her brother died, she got afraid of dying as well; therefore she started using magic to stop herself from aging. So... she's not immortal, but she'll never die of age. She probably feels really torn up about her brother's death still. He was the only human who understood her, when she dabbled into magic, she was exiled by most other humans.

@tomosumi I believe that she isn't laughing, but scared at herself and is instead about to cry. That flower that she destroyed holds value when offered to the dead. At the end, it shows her offering the flower and not ruining it, and she smiles because of that.

@tomosumi She has her dark side, story wise. Because her brother died, she fears death, and although she was able to use magic to make herself immorotal, she had to help the youkai (and probably did bad things in the process which lead to her eventually being sealed away by humans) in order to ensure she kept her power. I don't think her smile there is evil, but she is probably filled with forms of regret, confusion over making herself immortal. She has to deal with everyone dying now.
