WoW is one of my favorite mmos I've played since mid BC and the game is just changing so much I don't see many people playing much more. I find boredom in the game nothing else to do I've raided every raid possible done every dungeon. But swtor and WoW are both good games it depends on which one will kill its self with changed (WoW) I will be in MoP beta so if it's any good then hey WoW may live

Nowadays, this is accomplished by cutscenes and cinematics. The whole story is spoon-fed to the players, and they don't participate in it.

Nerd you say? I dont think so. There is tons of refference of twilight hammmer not only at end game but also in many quest hubs along the way, like for example moch lodan or Thousand Needles. Hell! one of new lvling zones "Hyjal" had them all over the place. Tons of lore about them is in quest texts alone. If basic reading a quest log is now considered nerdy then... dear lord.

... it's the LOGIN SCREEN, for goodness' sake. All that matters is making it look good. They shouldn't have worried about "new players getting confused about the antagonist of Cataclysm" because actually PLAYING the game does a good job of explaining all the story-related stuff to you. Hell, the entrance to Deepholm in the Maelstrom would've made a far better login screen while continuing the portal theme.
