imo, its actually a good sign to see people fighting over what genre a band is, it just means that band is too unique to fit into a genre. These guys have elements of alot of genres but cant be classified as any particular one because they have their own sound and its fucking awesome.

I agree with michaelthesituation because many pop and rap music isnt even written by the band. Most of the pretty boys like Justin Bieber get chosen from their looks, not their talent. So metal if you think about it, is the last PURE genre, other than old surviving bands (cheap trick, aerosmith, so on...). But It is becoming a shame because now even some metal bands are doing the same thing pop musicians are doing, no dis to the genre, but Im getting really pissed off. Its a disgrace to metal.

genre is just another word for "art-form" so it's ok to classify music as such. Without these classifications, we would not be able to distiguish the music we listen to. Metal contains such a broad spectrum. So, say that you aren't a fan of death metal, but you're a fan of thrash, or classic: they are all inside the metal genre, but in order to elaborate exactly what kind of metal you're into, you're gonna use sub-genres. This is a means of avoiding confusion.
