  • My first show

  • great version. On another note ... why? Oh why do people get there hands on a video feed an invariably "tard" it out with stupid visuals as apposed to just letting us watch the artists?

  • I so want this played at my wake yeah...

  • It's hard to believe that Jerry Garcia is only 41 years old here.

  • My first show. Awesome. I was hooked. A great show. Thanks for this. Is the rest of the show available?

  • I was at this show, excellent. After the show was over there was a fire in the fields where cars were parked. A few cars burned it was a sad day for the car owners but what a show.

  • @BonnerDwaine I was there too, Was a great show. With some of my best friends.

  • This was my 10th show out of 128. I drove from Florida to Texas for this last show of the west tour.

I was right up front for this encore. It was an extremely hot Texas night. I met up with some friends there and also met new friends who drove back up the east coast with me after the show in my jeep.

Not the best show of the tour, but such a great memory of that time in my life.

  • yeah.those shows in movie theaters.....3000 people. those shows in the early 80's seemed like some kind of sweet spot.

  • Way back when these cat's always seem to do brokedown palace after we were in the same place for 3 or more shows and it was deeply psychedelic just listening and catching your breath. It was like our little private idaho. Then it was out to the car or to the airport to catch up with band and do it all over again. This was when you really would see some of the same 15 or 20 people from city to city. It was just a whole lot cooler when tickets were $8 bucks, plenty of liquid, caps +stems NO FEDS.

  • Nice (much-needed) synch job cuz I'm sure the original is about as muddy as the video.

  • Those girls in the movie...in Thailand... man that stinks.

That boy in Korea; 3 years ... he was just teacher....

stories like these really kill. DARE kills KIDS...

so sad; VA is full got find a box....

  • Burning the candle at both ends made a bright light. Now we look at the reflections and dream - of times we had or wished we had...while life goes on all around us. I'm grateful for all these tapes done for the future and I'm grateful that tomorrow I'm going to have another day to enjoy this miracle of life.

    Peace & Love all ways

  • Jerry has to be the oldest looking 40 year old in this video. The Heroin was really taking it's toll in these couple of years. Still a nice soulful Brokedown.

  • Wow... I am looking at my ticket stub for that show, only one I have left these oh so many years ago.

  • love.....peace

  • Jerry's definitely getting really unhealthy here. 83-85 were some rough years for Jerry. Outside of that I think this is still the Dead in their element, small venues for small crowds. After the coma Jerry's voice never regained the clarity it had before, it got very warbly and strained after the coma. Also playing huge arenas put a strain on as well.

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever made. Perfect.

  • excellent- thanks for posting.

  • After spending early summer on my first tour Saratoga thru City Island, I was hooked. I packed up my Jeep and decided to drive from Florida to this last show of the West coast tour. I met some great people at this show. A few of them hitched a ride with me back to the northeast coast.

I was so into the band back then, I declined two rather attractive girls who tried to seduce me into leaving with them mid-show.

  • well, if this is terrible it still sounds pretty good.

  • Jerry will always rock my soul.

  • These were some of Jerry's Dark Heroin days where he barely took care of himself. Amazing he was only around 40 in this video. He looks around 70. Still no one could emote like Jerry. What a pretty song.

  • Jerry sounds fine to me...This is awesome.

  • I saw the Dead many, many times from the late 70's until 1990 I think the last show I saw was in 91 Hearing this now I realize how bad they could be Jerry's so fucking high he totally sounds like shit I saw him play some great shows but this wasn't one of them I remember after this show the pigs busted a bunch of people on hwy 290 outside the horse track This show sucked all the way around

  • thanks mister buzzkill!

  • Ridiculous to say that Jerry sounds like shit here. Yes, he is likely in the grip, but really what business is that of yours. He was playing and singing beautifully, you can't even write in sentences.

  • I can't write in sentences? Everything I wrote was a complete sentence. I didn't put periods because it wastes a character. Now let's examine your first sentence. "RIdiculous to say that Jerry sounds like shit here." What is the subject of this sentence? Wow, there isn't one, so this is not a complete sentence. By the way, Jerry sounds like shit here.

  • The Grateful Dead, there's a reason they are larger than life, and it's songs like these.

  • whoever put this here is very much appreiated on St. Croix USVI

  • I miss Jerry. Thank God we have the music!

  • outstanding post.

    gone are the days...

  • Classic , never d seen footage from a 83 performance . The band looks so into the music Thanks for thr Great music = )

  • I was at this show. Had no ticket and was on the way to the gate with friends when I found a ticket laying on a car bumper with no one around. I spotted it due to the metallis lightning bolt on it. I needed a miracle and got one! After that got a ride back to Jersey from a good guy Dave who was headed back to Boston. Great show thanks for the video!

  • Thats funny I lost a ticket at this show, that was mine!. kiddin.

  • That was amazing! Do you have any more from this concert?

  • Oh Jerry you are so damn talented and you look so fucking smack burned in this vid, fuck man I miss you.

    (((Jerry)))

  • this is the song I want to have played at my funeral.

  • Beautiful song for your end of days - gonna have 'em play morning dew when they walk my dead carcass down the aisle

  • im gonna have some crazy techno and i'll hire a puppet master to shake my carcass around while a strobe light goes off.

  • I think I'll hear them singing ashes ashes all fall downhopefully I dont die by fire now

  • amen my friend......................

  • I second that emotion!

  • why it isnt about dying..its about being hooked on drugs and deseprate..following the dead pretty much homeless..for a song at your funeral how about he's gone instead dude.. or maybe even hit the road jack...or nah nah nah nah nah hey hey hey goooodddbyyyyeee...lol

oh oh oh oh staying alive staying alive..

  • I was lucky enough to be on tour during this incredible period. We all knew what Pop's was up to. We were on it too. Gotta love the emotion. Garcia I miss you so much!!!!

  • it is fairly obvious jerry is feeling his persian thru most of this year which in my opinion had many killer shows.what it really comes down to is jerry just liked to feel good and persian will do that BUT at a very high price and i do not mean the money part of it.

  • amazing

  • yea one of my favorite shows is binghamton 1983... 83 was a good year indeed

  • You should listen to the Sante Fe show from the night before if you have any doubts about the stenght of band during this period. They played some mighty shows in 1983

  • Great video. i gotta wonder how much persian and blow Jerry was on. these were the heavy drug years after all. i'm not passing judgment on Jerry for this, just curious. He looks pretty damn drug addled. May He rest in peace.

  • Judging by what I've read, early eighties he was basically high every waking moment (or else terribly strung out when he couldn't score.) He was burning the candle at all ends, but what a beautiful flame it was. In the nineties, he probably was doing a lot fewer drugs, but by then he was much sicker, and his playing was worse too.

  • yea pretty much up until his diabetic coma in '86 his drug use had been on a downward spiral. After the coma he was actually clean for a few years, but by the early 90s he was gettin gback into them. 87-91 or so is considered the "second golden age" of the Dead, but IMO, they were all golden years.

  • I cried every damn time I heard the Dead play this live...

    (MISS YOU JEROME GARCIA...so much...)

  • this will be played at my funeral by the river side

  • nice, i live in Riverside CA

  • Jerry saw better dayzzzzzzz- not at his best for sure

  • No other guitarest's playing was as lyrical as Jerry's. You can have Clapton and all the rest. Give me Jerry any day. mama, mama, many worlds I've come since I first left home.

  • indeed

  • Agreed

  • 10 more thumbs up!!!

  • dude the lyrics of this song by robert hunter.

  • @woodyt56 if we are talking just guitar, then trey says hi.

  • @dobbs004 Trey Anastasio I'm guessing? Really I wouldn't know; I've heard very little Phish or Trey.
