  • I chnged to bass clarinet because my band director told mei needed a little more challenge.

but to me that was good.

  • wow this makes my bass clarinet sound like crap

  • she rushed a lot

  • I changed to bass clarinet because I couldn't play this fast on the b-flat.

  • Higher notes aren't that hard to play, but she's playing them so much better then I can.

  • Hooray for the bass clarinet playeeers :D what whatt ;)

  • i wish my high notes came out that well, thats a very good job considering bass clarinets are harder to get an upper octave out!

  • @serriamarie64 For realll man D: they are hard to get out, But the lower notes are sexy

  • @DollyDangerous um okay..haha

  • beautiful, but... needs more low notes. ;) low notes are the best notes on BASS clarinet, in my opinion anyways. haha.

  • @glassnarwhal yes low notes are sexy

  • @glassnarwhal yupp its true im a player myself

  • your bass clarinet and mine would make beautiful clarinet babies

  • Low frequencies need more time to develop. So, why that fast?

  • I play both bass and regular clarinet. I'm a 6th grader and i would say im not the best but most certainly not the worst(:

  • @nialovesyhux Want a challenge? Try playing a BBb Contrabass clarinet...

  • @Crelus26 Ohhh ok (:

  • @Crelus26 Eb.... is hard

  • Great choice of music, some of it is quite beautiful. But, you are missing many of the standard bass clarinet fingerings, Everything above high C is fingered with the first finger of the left hand down, but not covering the little hole in the first finger key. Why do you think it is there? It is for pitch reasons and to help those notes speak, Suggestion, work with a real bass clarinet orchestra player and learn to play the thing. Also learn to balance the reed and squeeks will vanish.

  • Beautiful, that was a wonderful performance, with minor kinks ( but we all have them), I love my Bass

  • I play Bass and regular Clarinet and I'm in 7th grade. I'm the best in my whole band!

  • And I thought my chromatic scale was hard.

  • I want the notes to this peice!! Great job btw! Im proud to be a bass clarinet!

  • This puts my playing to deep, deep shame...

  • @ASLmusicLearner Same here Dx

  • Yeah. Me Too.

  • U need more air love

  • It was an overall good performance, but you occasionally got away from the piano. You had very nice tone quality, and your mechanics were good, but one suggestion would be to keep your fingers close to the keys, which you did well, but there are places like 0:20 where they got in the way of a truly remarkable performance.

  • This was posted on my Bday Exept Not same year then id be 3

  • I like how the higher register sounds so clear...

  • That's future me!!

  • Whoa! That was fantastimagical!! I've been playing bass clarinet three years and clarinet for two before that so I hope one day ill be that good!!!

  • From one bass clarinetist to another, you are incredible.

Thank you for sharing this! Keep it up! Now, to dig out my e-flat alto... :D

  • I want this music sooo badd!

I have this huge audition in like 2 monthss! itd be perfectxD

  • Can someone send me that music? I play bass clarinet in school, and she's amazing!

  • i play bass clarinet too awesome!

  • very nice-enjoyed your recital

  • Noob

  • Tempo? This is a very unique and a very special way to think of this piece...

  • Perfect performance~~!

  • the funniest instrument evoking the most humor, the contra-bassoon! I'll take the

woodwind corner any day. Its always a great class of instruments and performers.

that always seem to enjoy their fellowship together.

  • i play the bass clarinet too. UR AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!....plzz up load more vids :)

  • Wow!! You're amazing!!! I can't play that fast with high and not sqeak!! Amazing!

  • Danm ive been playin for about 3 Years and thats skill to move yur figrs that fast and to be playing in upper regster Danm, one day ihope to be that gud(;

  • I played the bass clarinet for 6 years. This is such a difficult instrument to play fast! Your fingers are so far apart, and some of the keys are really heavy. It also doesn't change between the high and low registers very easily, ESPECIALLY at fast speeds. Yes, there's some squaks in there and some of her notes get lost, but considering the instrument she's playing on, she did an EXCELLENT job. If she were on a regular clarinet, no one would dislike this video. :)

  • <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

  • I saw your fingers shaking xD

  • ??????? to good and i play it.

  • I saw the sheet music, thought I could do it at this speed.....I failed. I can do it but nowhere near this clear/tempo.

  • Given how clearly nervous you were, this is a good performance. Some ppl just cant appreciate what nerves do to ppl. Just remember, the more expiriences, the more comfortable youll get.

  • that was very nice. im very imspired to learn the bass clarinet. im saying i can play french horn but not as good as you can play :)

  • Beautiful!!

  • Why don't all of you that are making rude comments post a video that shows your accomplishments? How well you can do this - or anything of worth? I'm a bit sick and tired of all the losers putting people down that are actually doing something with their lives. You're sitting in front of your computer doing nothing positive with your life while life is passing you by. If you can't say something positive, shut up.... No one is impressed with your snide remarks.

  • What music are you playing?

  • @alexster599 what ya been smokin?

  • shes not even playing..look closley

  • @alexster559

Alright, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. What are you seeing that I'm not exactly?

  • Oh Dear, she is absolutly splended!

  • thats good.. but is it the same notes and fingering as the Bb clarinet ??

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @jally759 yes, the Bb clarinet does have the same fingerings as the Bb Bass Clarinet, however there is an extra key at the bottom 4 (i'm sure u know what im talking about), a low Eb key, some come with a low C, however most schools only have the Eb so, the real only difference is how much more you need to drop your jaw and open your throat.

  • Very nice.

  • what's a fast way to go between the mid-A and the B? :/ that always trips me up.

  • @pumpkin091 really an easy way would involve a little bit of practice, but not too much, play the A until you find and remember the embouchure, i.e how tight your lips are, and then do the same with the B and then, practice hitting just those 2 notes, untill you can do it very quickly, so if u have the time do it as a warm up before class

  • thts sounded really cool

  • I play bass clarinet it rocks! But even though im good at it im not as good as you! <3

  • Bass Clarinet freaking rocks! I would never switch to a regular clarinet! It would seem too weird, I've tried too. Plus, it's much more fun to play! :D

  • Bass Clarinet is an Awesome instrument!! best instrument I've played! :D

  • I play the Bass Clarinet,Clarinet,Saxaphone, and i learn the flute

  • someone tell me plz? ok my skool has a bass and i was looking at it and the neck curves up then down and straight out... well hers curves back up... is it just me or do they make dif styles of bass necks? and i so wats the differance?

    plz tell me

  • @XxRedxX12345 They do make different styles of necks. Older bass clarinets have necks that do the first curve, then jut straight out, which forces the players of those to hold it like a saxophone (which is annoying because it is heavy). The one I have, a Jupiter Carnegie XL Series, has a neck that does the first curve, then comes up, like the player in the video.

I guess they realized that if they wanted it to be like a clarinet, they needed a better neck :\

  • Man I cant wait to switch from Tenor sax to Bass Clarinet

  • dear lord you are good...i switched from flute in 7th grade, taught myself how to play the bass clarinet, and after playing it for 2 weeks i was first chair. i am now a junior and have been in the top band at my high school for all 3 years ive been in high school. :) switching to bass clarinet was one of the best things ive ever done. the instrument itself is life changing. bc geek for life. <3

  • I play a really crappy bass clarinet from my school. I can't hit Low "E" or even sometimes low "G". Needless to say, I have never heard a bass clarinet go that high >_<

  • Wow this is wonderful! I have been playing the bass clarinet for 2 years and ignored people when they say that I should have played the clarinet first. I seriously think stuff like this inspires people to do spectacular things. So keep it up

  • Wow amazing

  • I personally believe that if you're going to hate on what a great job she just did you should post a video playing this song and see how great your hands do

  • @wawyattful That's not how art works. There are many very credible critics who are not artists at all. There are excellent voice teachers who can't sing, themselves. You don't have to prove yourself better to note problems with a performance.

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, there is an awkwardness to this performance. There are far too many points where she gets away from the piano. And well, in short, it's sloppy.

I don't think the speed does the piece any justice. either.

  • @wawyattful There is only one problem. The piece is great. The Bass is great. The way of thinking this piece is not great. This opus is a very fast, very even stunt piece, I know, because I won competitions with it, when I was 19. Since my mother was a violinist, I I know the original too, and I have a recording of his piece with prof. Robert Spring (CD title: The Dragon's Tongue). This is too slow, too "emotional". Not good on the bass in it's original form.

  • @wawyattful Thats so true

  • @888tho the bass clarinet isn't a clarinet?

  • 6 year playing bass clarinet and loving every minute... i played other insturments but they just dont compare

  • i heard the bass clarinet isnt very differant than a regular clarinet but just bigger and needs very good posture fingering and air

  • I've heard better, your hand posture isn't the best but you know over all it was ok just a couple of mess ups and your over all performance.... but compared to overs thats good

  • hey you're really good! are you still playing?

  • You want the best bass clarinet...listen to Bennie Maupin on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew...

    man.....

  • looks like a sax to me

  • @jrod246991 you're a retard

  • I played this for a music test that we have to pass in order to graduate.... it's hard... but she makes it sound like its easy!

  • Comment removed

  • I play the bass clarinet and im only in 8th grade i really enjoy it and i could never imagine doing anything else the bass clarinet has changed my life more than i ever thought! im going to become a musician! my director says i have mch potential and im really going for it all the way! People like this inspire me to go even farther and show me what it will be llike

  • 3 words......... .... DANG THAT'S GOOD

  • the bass clarinet is probably the BEST sounding instrument ive ever heard. i wish theyd let me play this for marching season

  • @JaAEspinozA mee to

  • i play bass for both marching and concert...overall not that bad...need to play all notes intune and no growl...and finger position not that great

  • @homieh422 how i thought it was only for concert you lluck i have to play flute ....cuz there are way too many clarinets .... but how can you march with it

  • @xisab321 Oh that sucks.....but i learned how to play the flute did i mention that already!(oh well My bad)

and it was aggrivating having my bass hanging from a neckstrap( it hurt) but it was actually a fun experiance...and everyone made those awkward jokes about how it was between my legs but i got over it

  • Very well done. I play bass Clarinet as well. But your finger positioning needs some work. But good job. Keep it up.

  • @ThePokegaga yeah I agree. Although it does seem that the piece is difficult, that's no excuse for fingers behind the beat and breaths before the ends of phrases. I play bass clarinet, too. At my school, that would probably get her about a 75. (as in a grade.)

  • my bass clarinet is broken.. the bridge for all the ''buttons'' betwen the lower and uper sector is broken -.-''

i cant wait to get it fixed...

  • Wow... I just started to play the bass yesterday... I've been playing clarinet for 5 years and now I'm inspired! Good Job

  • Very Sloppy. Her fingers look like they are going to fly away. If her hand position nedds a lot of work. It would a great deal. I myself play the bass clarinet and I know it would be impossible to play as clean as I do without proper hand position.

  • Very Sloppy.

  • I've played Clarinet for 4 years and Bass Clarinet for 3. I hope I'm as good at her someday.

  • Peace love and bass clarinets

  • Awesome playing! Wish I could play that well.

  • she makes the bass clarinet sound like a clarinet

  • I think she sounds fine here, I'd like to hear her pick up the tempo about 10 beats or so. For you young bass clarinet players out there, the bass clarinet is capable of so much, its up to you to challenge the limits of your skill. Don't let your directors tell you "you're a bass, you can't play that as well or fast as the soprano clarinets". It is within each of you to play as well as her and better! Love the vid 9/10

  • im too weak to hold up a bass clarinet in marching band so i have to get a Bb clarinet... :'(

    Bass clarinet rocks!!!

  • BEST INSTRUMENT!!!! ive been playing it for a year now but i Bb for 2 years. i play in concert and marching band, i love every minute of it

  • i love the sound of bass clarinet. i play Bb clarinet

  • my daughter clapped after it was done. It was very well played! my son is starting the bass clarinet and he's really excited, I haven't heard the instrument until recently, and I was playing instruments all thorugh out high school and junior high... I feel cheated.

  • Amazin I might be playin bass but rite now I be playen b flat

  • I play bass clarinet. It's the BEST instrument on this planet!!! I hope 1 day I'll be able 2 play that good!!!

  • @pandas4ever14 fuk ur mum GOOOOO TRUMPET

  • @pandas4ever14

    me 2 i <3 the bass clarinet

  • i play the bass clarinet

    and so freaking rocks!!

  • She is really good. I've been playing bass clarinet for over 20 years. She seems to struggle (very slightly) with transitions over the break. This young lady is very musical. I wish her all the best.

  • I love playing the Bass Clarinet & I hope that one day I reach your level

  • clarinet is a beatifule strument

  • ur soo awesome i pay the clarinet to 0

  • oh my god! i thought the bass clarinet was going to be waaayyy lower then that. i thought it couldnt reach high notes. it sounds really cool. does that mean its better then the bflat clarinets bc it can get all thoes low notes and the high ones?

  • @shawil12

It can play all the same notes as a soprano clarinet (except for some of the upper altissimo notes (I think)), but it sounds one octave lower on each note. I.E. C5 on a bass clarinet sounds like C4 on a soprano clarinet.

  • She's out of time

  • :DDDDD

I LOVE BASS CLARINET AND I LOVE HOW YOU BRING OUT ITS BEAUITFUL SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally play bass clarinet myself :DD

I am SO devoted to it *-*

IT is ABSOULTLY MY FAVORITE INSTRUMENT IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!!!!!!!

  • this piece is charming

  • Omg You Should Tell Me How Long That Took To Learn All That. And Where Can I Find This Music?

  • i play bass clarinet too

  • this is so pretty, awesome job :D

  • I play bass clarinet! She is really good

  • Your technique would improve if you would keep your fingers closer to the keys. Watch your hand position as well.

  • I play the clarinet, our band at school is very balanced with low woodwind instruments. So im planning on learning on how to play the bass clarinet. Is it fun?

  • @Colygirly Oh yes it is! The best part is that it fits perfectly well with jazz music.

  • @Colygirly VERY much!

  • Where did you get the music for this? Could you send it to me if i gave u my email? Excellent job by the way. :) ♪♫

  • I only wish i could cross the break that fast :(

  • Impressive! Most impressive! ...and a gorgeous setting too with all those glass windows in the back. Doesn't look like a typical stage; I'm wondering where this is?

  • das crazy! i play bass clarinet and im pretty good- but not as good as you!

  • WOW!!! I can't play bass clarinet-but someday...great job!!!

    Great inspiration!!!

    LOVE THE BASS!!!

TEAR IT UP BASS CLARINET STYLE!!!

  • thats amazing:)

  • good job the bass clarinet is definitely a fun instrument to play for our end of the year performance im playing the bass clarinet and i get to play scar for lion king im so excited

  • hi um i used to play the flute but now i am trying out for a bass clarinet........ yea i think its a very interesting instrament!

  • wow u are really good i luv the cass it rocks i've been playing it for 4 years it is so much fun

  • Im not so good at my bass clarinet in school but this vid makes me want to practice a lot. especialy the high notes i cant play.

  • Caryn you are a youtube celebrity!

  • hey i wanted to tell you that i rhink ur awsome and my hero i am a begginer and workin on it but some day i hope to play as well as u do.

    you've inspired me

  • As someone who's currently working on Boree & Pastoral, I know how difficult this is. I've been playing Bass since July of last year, and only recently in the last 2 months got serious enough to sell off my contra & bari. I just wish that low C basses didn't cost an arm and a leg. Minimum of 7 grand for a good used Selmer Paris or Buffet. Luckily, many good pieces exist that do not require the extended range.

  • dude y00p80 is a faggot thats a difficult piece and although, i have never seen anyone pull out at the mouthpiece on the bass clarinet... sounds great though

  • @Sarawwrrrable when you are playing mostly high notes its good to pull out a little... but normally yeah you dont pull it out

  • y00p80.

    Shut up.

You post a video of you doing it then

and you can hardly be that good if you spelled 'embouchure'

    That was really good.

I guess theres always room for improvement, but i really liked it :)

  • @y00p80 you do it faggit

  • @y00p80 The positioning of the mouthpiece in the mouth is up to the player. If a player gets a better sound from a different positioning of the mouthpiece and can play with that range, then by all means they should. Playing by the books only goes so far as to be able to make a half-decent sound. To truly embrace the bass clarinet or any instrument for that matter you have to make your sound unique and strive for perfection in every way.

  • I really want to hear/play a piece that utilizes the full range of the bass... all 5 octaves of it.

  • Amazing piece

    @biznock19

... do you mean 4 octaves?

  • @Blinginatorz Well, I meant like you can play 5 C's, but I guess I meant 4. Idk

  • I love the bass clarinet. i'v been playing for 5 years now and i wouldn't switch to a clarinet because i love it too much. i play in the marching band with it and i am completely devoted so i have to say that you do inspire me to make great music on my instrument and keep it up.

  • @kolikio1 ive been playing for two weeks and i wouldnt switch back foor anything i played clarine for a year. I already learned Boulevard of brokend dreams, take it easy, poker face, pink panther and beat it by heart. i love it. i play it almost two hours a day. all of those songs rank medium hard in uil competietitons to.

  • @kolikio1 im in marching band to and my director makes me play the clarinet but i would LOVE it if i could play my bass clarnet. Any ideas to persuade him?

  • @claudia29466 tell him/her that there are many important parts that could only be covered by bass clarinet in many songs

  • @claudia29466

Give up, get a plastic reed and loud mouthpiece and just wail. Works for me.

  • Hey I play Bass Clar. in my skewl band its pretty easy to play though now that ive learned how

  • wow your amazing i look up 2 u since i play it at school!!!!!!!!!!

  • My private instructor has told me to make sure I'm using proper finger motion before I focus on economy of motion. try keep your knuckles relaxed in a curve, and moving the finger as a unit from only the knuckle attached to the hand. and keep fingers light to move quickly and be flexible; try not to push so hard your fingers turn white from pressure, and remember to practice scales slowly in front of a mirror focusing on the fundamentals.

  • nice surrounding...

  • Comment removed

  • I am just starting to play the bass clarinet. I can't seem to get the higher notes out. any pointers?

  • If you pull up ur reed 2 make it even 2 tha mouthpeaice that helps also pull ur mouth back on the mouthpiece 2 hit all the correct notes! :) >=P

  • @lorrenbee Thank you :D It helped.

  • @MusicWicked @lorrenbee NO! Do NOT pull back on the mouthpiece to get higher notes to play. You put MORE mouthpiece in to get the higher notes, just the same as on soprano clarinet. And reed placement also is not directly related to being able to play in the altissimo range - changing the reed placement just depends on the age of the reed and tone you will be going for, along with resistance of the instrument itself.

  • @BassclarinetVal Yeah, I eventually figured out on my own, but thanks :)

  • one word: practice. (and dont bite) when i first switched to bass, i hated it. dont give up, cuz it can sound really good eventually. good luck
