@Handsmf9 So what? Major injuries cost him a lot of time. It wasn't his fault. What should he have done? Not play? Look, no matter how old you are. If you have the chance to play ball at a place like SC, you play! 25 years old or not, you play and you be thankful that you have an opportunity that 99.9% of everyone will never get. I'm 33 and if I was good enough to play for SC right now... you better believe I would.
hershels biggest downfall was going to sc on signing day lorenzo booker waited till hersh declared then he declared florida state he wanted to make sure he was as far away from the greatest LBP jackrabbit of all time as he could get
Bullshit. You obviously didn't pay that much attention. That's not the only reason. HD really was THAT good (until the injuries). Go back and watch the SC - Auburn game in 2003. He was, by all means, the real deal. Don't be dumping on HD here. This ain't the place. You wanna do that, fuck off and go somewhere else. No haters here.
Ok one good game great!!! What about the cal game when he FUMBLED in O.T!! Thats when White and Bush started seeing more action and it only grew as the season went on.
@WurdOfMouf dude they celebrated him cuz he had a troubled life and career not cuz he scored he grew up in east long beach was the number one player in the country went to usc supposed to start then got hurt and was falsely accused of raping a women which the case was dropped but it costed him a year of eligablity and injuries cost hit another year then when he got healthy and every thing ones good reggie bush the phenom took the running back spot he went threw alot that y they celebrated
Dennis also made central contributions to teams that finished in the BCS top 5 during 6 consecutive seasons (2002-07). With 70 wins (and only 8 losses) in that span, Hershel Dennis is the "winningest player" in College Football history.LBC Fight On !!!!
i remember seein this dude his senior year...my bro played against poly 1st round i think and put up 2 tds...still, lbp was too good that year but it was great memories back then
hershel dennis was my sons mentor even though he never met him. my son used to watch hd's highlight and game films as his study films all through high school and the only wrong move hershel made was going to usc . I think his off the field issues wouldnt have been so magnified had he went to another school I think he should have gone to MIAMI, TEXAS or FLORIDA and all who thought Lorenzo Booker was better than Hershel......need to stop smoking crank!!!!
realy HD is one of my heros i dont think i would be able to stick it threw for all those years. im a freshman in high school and HD and jr.seau are my heros. BIG ups 2 HD for his hard work. SAMOA!!!!!!!!
hershal was one of the best backs to ever come out of long beach or cali for that matter. this was special for usc, something the illini will never understand! TROJANS 4 LIFE!
Hell yeah, baby!!! Just for fun, go back and look up videos of SC from 2002 and 2003, HD was running all over Auburn! He absolutely tore them a new one!
Ahh dude i know! hershal could have been a high second round pick in the NFL, maybe even a mid first round pick. but he got hurt and if i remember right he got caught after curfew with some girl with extacy pills. that right there put him in the dog house with coach carrol and then came the injury.
People forget that hd was a starter aheand of bush and lendal they also forget that he ran all over auburn before he got injured. HD stood there for 6 years with a dream things might not have worked out like he wanted. having pete give him that chance was great showed that coach never forgets about his players.
i respect the Illini, but id they don't realize the significance of this touchdown for one of my favorite Trojans, than that's unfortunate.
when i heard about this on sportscenter, i was so happy. thank you HD for 6 years! they haven't always been 100%, but you gave your heart 110% to the team
i remember watching him dominate at lb poly! i wish him all the best... this was a classy move by coach carroll, this just reconfirms his love and loyality for his players!
It's a shame that the Illinois fans and the rest of college football interpretted this event as an instance of USC running up the score. If they only knew what this one play meant to not only HD, but also to the team, the program, and the fans, they would understand. But they don't and this is why Carroll's programs is so special. Anyway, I'm glad you like it. Thanks!
yea hershel has been thru a lot at sc. i remember watching him run all over concord de la salle like 8 years ago. so this must be his 6th or 7th season at usc. he deserved that td. i hope he makes an nfl team or something
I don't care what anyone says about excessive celebration, or the illini fans whining about Pete running up the score. He deserved that moment. FIGHT ON!
this was beautiful man absolutely beautiful.you are right on about your comment on excessive celebrations. anybody that knows anything about our program knows the trials and tribulations hd has gone through.this was icing on the proverbial cake baby, go trojans fight on.
Absolutely no clue! And neither did the refs. This is one of those situations where the excessive celebration rule is really poorly intepretted. I can't imagine that if the refs understood the significance, they would still throw the flag. But who cares! Obviously not the team! This was probably the biggest feel-good moment of the game. You agree?
Wasn't he like 25 at this point? lame.

Hershel Dennis was a beast before the injuries.
He had LenDale and Bush on the bench.
He was a pure running back. Better than Bush, yes i said it.
