It costs under 200 bucks. In watch land, that's pretty much on the bottom end of the scale. I am aware, though, that many people would consider 200 Dollars for a watch a lot.

That thing is way overpriced. I can get an ebook reader with free lifetime 3g internet connection for about the same price. And it comes with a bigger e-ink screen. Watch is still cool though! Thanks for demo.
My phosphor watch, a metal band version of this model, doesn't have any speck so either they changed the display or yours was defective, I got mine Christmas 2010 for $79 from Hammacher Schlemmer.

I have the metal version ($79 in 12/10) and it only has 4 display modes: Analog/Digital, All digital, Date or Alarm. Each can be in B/W or W/B, giving 8 displays total. The display is annoying.
1) You can't see the time & date simultaneously, nor can it auto flash between the two
2) There's no Alarm On icon, except when SETTING the Alarm time
3) After viewing the Date or Alarm, it won't automatically return to Time

I got the metal band version in Dec 2010 for only $79, free s/h. For some reason, the luxury gadget store, Hammacher Schlemmer, sold it on eBay for less than anyone else. It was brand new, and the store has a great reputation and a very generous return policy. It may still be on sale so search around. While it looks great, read my post on why it's not practical.
I read a review that said (quote) "All e-ink watches lack illumination, and are therefore not readable in the dark. Since the e-ink displays are opaque, Phosphor will have to use front lighting..."
"Will have to use front lighting"... he speaks in future tense, as if his unit does not have this feature, but that they might at a later date... does this have any kind of lighting, or is it just completely unreadable in the dark?
Great review. I have the watch and I love it. It gets loads of attention. Love how it flashes each hour. Nice and light and waterproof. Something different 8)
@unicyclst Yes these watches use the same tech as most eReaders, which of course includes Kindle. This is also the reasoning behind the hefty price tag of the phosphor watch line.
...Because e-ink screens require so little battery power to operate, combining this technology with the "atomic" radio sync watch systems would create quite the chronograph.

"Damn, that's a big-ass watch."
Again, depends on perspective.

I think the bottom is probably genuine leather and it's bonded to plastic (or to more leather making it feel like plastic)

Yea, it's a unisex watch so I guess they make the band so a girl can wear it without having too much extra band...thats unfortunate
