  • I wish my collie wouldn't fight me when I brush him, plus he ALWAYS lays down do I can't brush him. Do you have any suggestions?

What kind or type of spray conditioner do you suggest? I've never seen any.

  • @clkottke I think it is not a big problem if he lies down, I somethimes do that too, Diamond is now 10 years and has artrose so she can't stand up very long so she has to lie down.

I always use water mixed with a conditioner I always use bio groom products

  • I mean, how do you make your Rough Collie not smell?!

  • What is your secret mix?! : )

  • What kind of brush do you recommend?

  • @bridgythemidgy I work with a lot of differnt brushes, A slickerbrush for detangling, I prefer a Les Pooch and then for making them shine a brush with plastic bristles and boar bristles, my favorite is a mason and pearson.

  • Spraying dogs is stupid! :(

  • @JOOZINA Sorry, but have you ever groomed a collie proper? You must spray them otherwise it won't go.

  • @JOOZINA I have a lovely blue merle collie, and I never spray or bathe her. I groom her every day before her walk, let god dry her when we R done (we live in a wet city). She never smells bad, her white parts are always super white. People comment how my dogs don't smell bad and always look so beautiful. I tell them feed you animal quality food, and don't bath them. Bathing causes excessive oils, dirt sticks to oils, as it does to sprays. Most sprays also contain toxic cancer causing estrogens.

  • @Dehzee This is a castrated bitch, so after the castration she got a coat that is not normal for collies,

that is why I have to spray her.

And my showdogs I always spray with my own secret mix, and I nearly never bath them

I have really white parts on my dogs and shiny coat

  • @Dehzee How do you have your Rough Collie not smell bad?!

  • @emilyleeee That's a good question. People comment on my dogs coats often. All I can say is this because I'm not sure exactly which thing helps. I'm VERY careful about food. I feed either raw free range or origen dry. I name the brand cuz often even org dry has 'natural flavours', msg is hidden in there as hydrolyzed, nutritional or brewers yeast. I made wool ball toy, felting them, too keep their mouths clean w/o damaging tooth enamel. Their coats produce excessive oil from bathing. 2 B Con't

  • @emilyleeee I think because they're not over producing oils, when they do get like wet gross dirty, once it dries it just falls off, clean collie . My very old rottie passed away b4 I got this new generation of herders. She also never stank. People would tell me normally when they pet a rottie their hands stunk after. When they over produce oils, dirt sticks 2 it & it smells bad. Also, food w/ glutens, fillers, will contribute 2 a stank dog w/stank breath, Good food/groom daily/no bath cheers

  • Mine is always walking from one side to the other, really hard to make him stay for the brush xD

  • @2129261184 , my younger ones try to do that also, but this one is soo old, she has had years of training she doesn't anymore

  • i want one!

  • do collies shed a lot? because we have a golden retriever that sheds A TON!!!

  • No they don't, we also have a borzoi who shed's a lot more.

When they are shedding it will mat more easy so they have to be combed and brushed some extra time

  • my collies do shed but not as much as my old golden retriever who she like crazy , my collies only really shed 1 to 2 times out of the year and the golden would shed all year around, collies have a double coat the under coat will shed late spring early fall, i like to have my dogs brushed once a week and we give them fish oil and other healthy supplements in their diet to help with the shedding and over all heath of skin and coat

  • how often do you have to brush your collie?

  • That totally depends on the difference in collies and were they were bred.

This one every week and every day behind the ears and the tail and hindlegs.

As you see in my other video's I have other collies who have more original coats. I can brush them every 3 weeks and it will not mat up or tangle.

But this one is a pain in the bud, she is castrated and bred with too many coat so she has a massive to big coat for a collie

  • we brush our collies once a week unless we are showing ours then its every weekend for the show

  • What a shame we couldn't see you brushing all of Diamond he does have a wonder coat hope to see more of you
