Cmon dude, tell me a good reason for not sharing your other tips. It's based on the same fear of selfish people which you were talking about in the video.
Man if you lived in my town I would bring you into my studio for FREE! I like cats with your attitude about knowledge on making music better thanks bro!
boon you absolute legend! dropping pearls of wisdom there mate! you have single handedly (not sure if thats a word) taught me how to use the mpc 1000. I would find it very hard to be able to just give away this sort of info! this is priceless! big ya self! respect from Leeds UK peace!
Yo Boon Doc, I just want to say thanks for all your videos it really helped me take my skills and techniques to the next level, I am a humble guy so I'm not ashamed to say this, and truly an inspiration to me. It's a shame that you don't get the true recognition that you deserve, man. We are the same age, but in musical age you are my big brother, and I'm glad you know real hip hop, keep up the good work homie. Peace!!!
I see you have the "Full Level" on. U should turn it off bro.. This would make the claps even more realistic cuz as you said, nobody claps the same way.. and this does not only mean the timing but also the volume.
Anyways - your tips are very useful man. Respect!
It sounds crazy, but part one and two totally took my joints to a different place. I never understood why my beats wouldn't swing right, and why I would like the chords I was playing until I recorded them...not realizing it was the quantize that was sucking the life out of everything! Thanks a TON. I now understand that for my particular style, I have to use quantize very sparingly. I tell people to watch your vids all the time - keep the tutorials coming please!
Easy but EFFECTIVE tips right here. Thanks for schoolin us noobs Boonie. These simple tricks make a world of difference in the sound of a track. I always enjoy your vids and music!
Also how do you assign a same drum sample to different pads under velocity? if that makes sense? Did you just change the volume for each sample indivudually or can the mpc split it up for you?
Such great tips and advice.... unselfish/sharing IS the way to do it.... that's how the shit evolves... that's how music progresses, spiritually and musically. Such a great vid, man.
fuck dude, you really made a great video man!! very informative, this is a very very important part of any music creation process and not a lot of people make videos showing this kind of thing!! props dude!!!
I love boon doc because he really explains how to do things unlike other producers that just like to show off their skill and forget about the up comers....Keep doing what your doing bro!

that 16 level velocity is one of the best features on the mpc you can pitch a sample almost like a keyboard but on the 16 pads or you can filter and attack it really helps on when you are programing basslines kev brown does this i think pete rock and j dilla use the 16 level feature alot or their filtering and basslines also thanks boon doc

U are seriously an inspiration and I know that GOD has great things planned for you! Dont let the haters steal your shine! Let's keep real music alive!
great video boon doc, how did you make 16 levels velocity hihat ??? and if i got a kick loaded with the hihat in a pad, if i do the 16 levels velocity , the samples of the kits wil be changed by the different hihat, how to, after recording the hihat, get the kit (program) reset ?
One person dislikes.... Bet they watched the whole video tho' (lol) .... Kudos 2 u Boonie, keep up the good work.... Appreciate u even puttn up these vids, cuz u ain't have 2....

Whattup Boonie, I noticed that you are on the MPC 1k (again). You preveously went from that, to the MPD24 (obviously to control software related instruments, Logic, etc.). Is this due to your "incident" that took place in your studio? Nonetheless, it's always good to see you still posting great vids.
yea i feel u dog mr myagi taught the karate kid every move except one, just in case he thought he was better. than mr myagi would of beat his fuckin ass. know what i mean bro lol
YO!! BOON DOC, I JUST WANNA GIVE YOU A SHOUT OUT. U ARE A BEAST. BEEN WATCHING UR VIDEO BECAUSE U ALWAYS SHOW SO MUCH LUV 2 ALL THE PRODUCER/BEATMAKERS, MAJOR OR UNSIGNED. U LUV WHAT U DO AND DO IT WELL. KEEP DROPPIN JEWELS!!!! HIP HOP!!! GOTTA LUV IT!!!
HOW DO YOU DELETE JUST ONE SAMPLE,I CANT JUST DO ONE,WTF???!!!IT SAY PURGE ALL OR SOME DUM SHIT,DONT TELL ME YOU CANT EREASE ONE AT A TIME,SHIT----WHAT UP BOON
Boonie is there any way you could tell me exactly what to press to take off the quantize?? Like when i hit t.c do i turn off the note value or something?
@BlackTuezday ay wud man, i was wondering if quantize pretty much works the same in logic? I know how to quantize in logic but i still dont get the feel i want, i work with the swing and advanced quantization as well! Peace man!
thansk for the tips boonie. the video inspired me and i'm excited to try em out. i initially wanted to not quantize my drums but just starting out on the MPC it was not happening.. so i started to quantize them but i think i'm gonna do what you said and just start a little at a time, just the hi hats or just the kicks not quantized. anyway so much of this video was informative and helped me so i'm not gonna blab about it all. just wanted to say thanks. PEACE!
Yo Boonie, this is dope because these tips can actually help the new / young wave of producers who probably rely on manuals which have NO INSTRUCTIONS ON SOUL. Obviously, you want others to make dope music besides yourself. Selfish cats will continue to complain about today's Hip Hop music and won't do nathan about it. Although I've been familiar with all these tips since the mid 90's, it's still new to others. Passing along tips also can preserve Hip Hop. Big up to Boonie Mayfield!
@BlackTuezday In terms of reason 4 when it comes to velocity, how can you control it. I play from a midi control and I get the same stiff sounds using redrum...should i load my sounds individually in the NN-XT?
For the swing does the ReGroove controller shape the overall swing as well?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
whatever, brah. you're just biting J Dilla's hi-hat/snare/kick patterns, that's all. Nothing new, it's just the way that producers do their drums now. It's amazing how we forget about Pete Rock, Premo, Marley and the rest that weren't about "humanizing" drums with a machine. Back in the day, the intent of these machines were to NOT sound like drummers, but to sound like machines.
That was some truly cranky negative shxt to say.. Dilla's dope.. Pete Rock is dope.. Premo is dope.. Marley is dope.. Boon Doc is dope.. and they all sound a bit different.. where are your beats?
you obviously didn't watch part one, because he does give credit to Pete Rock AND J Dilla. Don't make negative comments or try to knock what he's doin'. He's tryin' to help people, and you put him down? Real class act...

@danny25d It's all good...just look at his comment box on his page. It's obvious he has a hobby of disrespecting others. Bitterness grows within old men who sat and let their ambitions rot. If he was truly at peace in his mind.... he wouldn't be running around leaving such comments for attention. Content people feel no need to lash out and criticize others like that...it's a waste of time and nothing more than a sign of immaturity and anger within. God bless him.
@BlackTuezday Boonie you would be a fool to argue with this hater. Your beats, tips, websites, and videos in general prove to be informational and exciting. I think the production world is better as a whole because you are in it. Thanks for sharing your gift. Do you respond to emails for business purposes? Would like to know...
Fkuc the haters though dude. returninginsurgents beats!?!? FOH!

right? My thoughts exactly! On a real note though, really appreciate the video. Just these few little tricks have been making a HUGE difference in my songs. I knew that something just wasn't right because I've got a pretty good ear for music.
Problem was I never had any "formal" music training (not that anyone really HAS to, but just so you know the backround). I knew that something wasn't quite right but this 2 part series helped me to narrow down exactly what it was.
you obviously didn't watch part one, because he does give credit to Pete Rock AND J Dilla. Don't make negative comments or try to knock what he's doin'. He's tryin' to help people, and you put him down? Real class act...
@returninginsurgent If the intent of Marley and others were to "sound like machines"..why did he proudly discover the way to sample REAL drums from vinyl instead of using the synthetic stock drums of the 80's? Why were they looping break-beats from REAL drummers off records rather than using the electronic fake drums that were popular then? In fact... don't answer that... you've displayed enough ignorance for tonight. Thank you for watching.
Im glad to see you back on the MPC my brotha, when I layer my snare I usually turn the timing off to, some one also showed me a good tip, when you go to your mixes on your machine, move the high hats to the left and your snares to the right just alittle bit not alot, and when everything comes out on the mix down you dont have everything coming at you at once and you can also do it with your bassline and your sample, try it out and see the difference
Yo Boon, you should create a Mpc tutorial. Im sure you can make a lot of bread off of that. Cus we all know that there's books out there. But when you have someone at our level explaining the tutorials through video. People understand much easier. Just food for thought. If alot of people can appreciate this video right here.. Imagine a whole tutorial.
Boone, Your humility is going to take you a long way my brother. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Oh by the way, You know what your doing and don't you EVER let anyone tell you different!!!!!
good job boon doc, good to see ur still puttin it down, and good to see u messing with the mpc again, i thought u went software not that it matters but something about banging on the drum pads

Boonie is there any way you could tell me exactly what to press to take off the quantize?? Like when i hit t.c do i turn off the note value or something?
OGtony88 1 year ago
@OGtony88 yep, just go to T.C. and turn it to "off" and that's it
BlackTuezday 1 year ago

PEACE!
crayyawn 1 year ago
Yo Boonie, this is dope because these tips can actually help the new / young wave of producers who probably rely on manuals which have NO INSTRUCTIONS ON SOUL. Obviously, you want others to make dope music besides yourself. Selfish cats will continue to complain about today's Hip Hop music and won't do nathan about it. Although I've been familiar with all these tips since the mid 90's, it's still new to others. Passing along tips also can preserve Hip Hop. Big up to Boonie Mayfield!

you're face/mannerisms when you're playing or listening to the quantized and same velocity notes is priceless. it says it all. great vid btw.

lettin all the secrets out boonie...gotta leave some to the imagination! lol
colt45music1 1 year ago
@BlackTuezday In terms of reason 4 when it comes to velocity, how can you control it. I play from a midi control and I get the same stiff sounds using redrum...should i load my sounds individually in the NN-XT?
For the swing does the ReGroove controller shape the overall swing as well?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
whatever, brah. you're just biting J Dilla's hi-hat/snare/kick patterns, that's all. Nothing new, it's just the way that producers do their drums now. It's amazing how we forget about Pete Rock, Premo, Marley and the rest that weren't about "humanizing" drums with a machine. Back in the day, the intent of these machines were to NOT sound like drummers, but to sound like machines.

@returninginsurgent

@BlackTuezday
