Jimi Hendrix used to burst his guitar all the time. Once he became famous the guitar company used to give him guitars to burst on stage. I could never afford to do that.
$275, but that's equal to around $2,275. The value of the US dollar dropped a lot over the years, which is why Gibson's prices have so-called "increased."
These guys are all crying the blues these days...They'd be lucky to get 200k for them now. It was a bubble created by dealers and a few rich baby boomers. The bubble burst and the boomers are dying.
Where's your link? A google search of 59 Les Paul, record price, 900000 etc...pulls up absolutely NOTHING.
So yeah....I think you're the one with the story. Perhaps you are confusing richard gere's guitar collection which in TOTAL sold for just over 900K? Wasn't even a 59 in that collection.
So yeah...show me some proof and maybe I'll believe you.
Jimi Hendrix used to burst his guitar all the time. Once he became famous the guitar company used to give him guitars to burst on stage. I could never afford to do that.
i know where one is. its a true 59, been sitting in a closet since the 70s. ive messed around with it a few times, it has a broken string. the owner wont sell it to me or fix it. it pisses me off.
don´t get me wrong. I love gibson LP´s and the 59 burst it´s the most spectacular axe eve made. But I´ve always think that´s so stupid that those one with cream and black PU´s are more expensive. It´s only a colour. Anyway, sadly it´s true. Everyone talking about money. See phil x demos. He plays eruption in an original 59. It´s amazing. That´s what guitars were made.
@thecries I think most sane people would agree the 59 Les Pauls are nice, but they're definitely not worth it to the general public. That said, all custom shop Gibsons, even nowadays, are excellent guitars that are moderately overpriced. That said, you could probably manufacture a '59 burst that has the same look and tone for 5 figures. Any guitar that old would need work done and parts replaced in the last 50 years anyway.
I politely ask you if you could please provide me the pícture in 0:20 . I've been looking forward to it for a long time, and I need it in the best resolution possible, because I want to make it a poster in my studio.
Thank you very much, hope you can release your film!
@BoyleJr it was .. but the '59 is the most popular of the three years they were made and 'The 1959 Burst' makes a better title than 'The 1958, 59 & 60 Burst' .. just my preference
According to the 2002 book "50 Years of the Gibson Les Paul", Paul McCartney's lefty is a 1960 model as well. I'm curious as to how many (if any) '59 lefty's were made, weather their whereabouts are known, and what their value would be.

@mxr226 i know of five between 1958, 59 and 60 .. i am currently working on a magazine article about mine .. its a very interesting and tragic story .. unfortunately it could take years before the article comes out (just like my movie)
My dad bought a 1959 Les Paul at a party in 1967 from a drunk for $50. He held on to it for 15 years. He traded it in for a shitty acoustic worth about $200.
I have a 1960 LP Classic. It's the 1996 reissue. Simply put, the best guitar in my stable. Even these LP classics from the 90's are creating some crazy collector money. I bought mine new (factory direct) and I have seen them at guitar shows & even ebay for much more than I paid for it new 15 years ago.
We all love the 59 sound... but, are you sure that the Slash's Les Paul is actually a 59 Les Paul? i mean, are you absolutely and completly sure that his axe is a burst?
@Gustav028 .. the guitars SLASH recorded with and became famous with were two replicas and an '87 (?) .. he did have an original Burst later (Joe Perry's) ..
SLASH is included in the film because he had a huge influence on the Burst market .. three hit videos from AFD (all featuring Slash playing Les Pauls) started the Japanese collectors on a Burst buying spree .. prices began skyrocketing .. the American collectors eventually jumped in and prices went even higher ..
@danne9501 I heard the first one before, but I can't remember the title. I think It's sth by The Fleetwood Mac. The second is Black Magic Woman, by the same band.
The first one is called 'Something inside of me' by Fleetwood Mac, featuring Danny Kirwan on lead. Read back through the posts - I answered the same question about a year ago. As iagobroxado says, the second one is Mac's original version of Black Magic Woman.
@gibsongold1970 there were no problems with Gibson .. they were cery supportive .. the music and performance releases are very difficult and expensive .. with any luck it could be released this year
@bassminusb unfortunately we didnt make the xmas deadline .. the film is still not finished .. currently i have absolutely no prediction as to when it will be released (if ever) .. sorry ..
in 1966 a friend of mine who was returning from a 11/2 year hitch in the navy came to see me. He showed me a guitar in a crummy case which he bought for $125 in a San Diego pawnshop. It was a '59 burst!!!
come on when is the movie gonna be available it´s gonna be 3 years since this trailer is out, movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie now
Well buddy, if i found one in my basement or something, I don't see myself hanging on to it just to then be afraid to even play it for fear of damaging it or having it be stolen. I would totally sell it to one of the greats, buy myself two custom shop Les Pauls, a nice house, and play my two new Les Pauls every night in my new pad drinking wine with the wife, but that's just me.
I would keep it safe for sure, I would love to even be in the same room as one of these guitars. I own a Gibson Les Paul custom in sunburst and I persnally think, I would rather wait the fifty years to see how it ages, haha. But if I found one, I just can't see my self parting with it.
No, you're wrong if I found one in my attic (which I haven't) I wouldn't be $400,000 dollars richer; I'd be one 1959 Les Paul better. I wouldn't sell it; ever.
they are making it the same way, ony the wood is diferent, alot diferent, and that's the main thing, why the guitars don't sound so loud, and open as then back in the 60's. Pickups are a bit diferent also, don't know how, maybe pickup making technology has improved, in a way, but the main thing is the wood.
because wood and pickups are different and even if they did it wouldnt sound even close to what these sound like because these guitars have aged over the past 50 years wich makes it sound alot better
nm, its from the beano album, why dont more people know about it, if it werent for this video i know i wouldnt, it is the best blues i have ever heard!!, and htis video is the shit
his book. he has michael bloomfields old 59, he HAD joe perry's 59 but gave it to joe for his birthday, and a les paul replica that was used to record appetite and a lot of songs on his other albums
That's a tune off the the "Beano" album. I think it's "Double Crossing Time" sung by John Mayall.
I never heard Gibson Les Paul til I saw Bloomfield playing a Gold Top at the Fillmore in '66. This was a year before the "Beano" album came out in '67. He did say he was very surprised when he toured England in "66 all the good blues players were playing Les Paul guitars. Some very influential players of the late '50's early '60's were Hubert Sumlin, Freddy King and Mickey Baker.
