Saladin showed the top of military and political capability at 1187.
He won before he fighted.
Because as Master Sun Tzu said:
"A victor wins before he seeks battle, a looser moves to the battlefiled and then tries to win."
Saladin was awesome. Yeah he lost some battles, but still he was fighting the crusaders while he himself had to unite different smaller kingdoms before he could fight.
@WolfytheWolf5667 "You" and "We". Do you think that i am a muslem? I am an atheist...
Anyways Turks did destroy many parts of Byzantine lands, but why did the crusaders invade the Middleeast then? The crusaders where just as cruel as the turks.
Why did the crusaders punish arab people for what turks had done? YEs because it had nothing to do with revenge... The Crusaders massacered tens of thousands of people in the name of their god. Christians are not 1% better then the muslems.
@VictumRoManius the Crusades emerged becauseof several reasons
-The holy land was a COLONY by European powers and it was crucial for trade
-The byzantine emperor was good friend of the pope at the time, and when the emperor was losing the battles against the turks, he called the pope for aid. The pope responded by the first crusade. If you look at the crusaders route in the first crusade, you see that they marched in Constantinople and into Turkey. They were also supported by byzantine soldiers
If you're going to remake it, and I'm serious about this, look up Hattin 1187 by David Nicolle. He'll give you battle formations, tactics, directions, plans, deployment. It's all pretty much there, even some things prior to the battle, like Reynald's attack of a saracen caravan and his sacking of Aydhab and Yanbu. This is the closest any Crusader has ever gotten to Mecca, the muslim holy city.
Another note: This battle seems particularly one-way. After a brief view of the Hattin 1187 osprey publishing guide, Saladin had quite literally surrounded the Crusaders there, and kindof encapsulated in the center with a mix of their hit&run tactics with the saracen faris and infantry troops, who kept them at bay.
Sweet Jesus, the bloody narrative makes little sense. It lacks romantic finesse, and it's style makes letters like "C" and "M" completely incomprehensible.
You should scrap the crappy writing style and use something more understandable.
the only bad thing was we should have burnt jeruslem down the crusaders killed muslim pilgrims we never we should have cleansed th whole region we had a chance to
@Strategos300 I think the fact that you mention he was a fool and a hero very important. We want our heros to be perfect and our villains to have only evil qualities...but the reality is they were just like us and did both terrible and incredible things....

TO ALL COMMENTARIES: Listen, there are much political and culturial poletics here. Stop swearing guys! You are just unserious, anoying and stupid if you continue swearing just because someone doesn't agree. Its childish! We all have different stories about this battle, some say Richard the Lionheart was a fool, others a hero, but that just depends in which culture you live in. Now stop being so agressive, but please continue the discussion...
@Strategos300 Oh, and I've looked over maps of Hattin, that is not a desert. It's actually a baren waste land. Note: NOT DESERT. Deserts have sands, Hattin has none. You might expect some grass here and there, but nothing that'll feed an army.
It's so unfactual. The Battle of Hittin took place near the Sea of Galalli, near Teberias. The reason the Crusaders lost, was the lack of proper water sources, but the area is not a desert. The March from Tzipori to Teverias lacked springs that could manage a large army. So when the Crusaders finally reached Teberias, the had to make a desperate attempt at capturing the water sources that were in the hands of Saladin. The rest is history.
you know guys, having a historical debate is good, because it shows how the history comes accross, but all your doing is bitching, can you please stop?
i can't believe you dumbasses are still fighting over a 600 year old war, and defending both sides of religiose fanatics, i wish i had a time machine that could send you all to those times so you can kill each other and rid the world of your presence
Yes, and it was a sad day... but I do not understand what has to do this with Saladin? Bah!... I could you remember that the year 1571 at Lepanto, the Christianity got a glorious victory over the ottoman fleet; and that the 11th September 1683 (under the walls of Vienna assailed and besieged for the hundredth time by the barbarous armies of the ottoman sultan) the Christianity got another resounding victory that, thanks to God, marked the decline and fall of the ottoman empire. Bye, bye.
i should tell you that ottomans were occupying the middle east region as much as the crusaders themselves, they came from central asia, doesnt matter what religion they had, nobody looked to them as rightful land owners in here, the people who sufferd the most in all these wars were the arab citezens
I admire your style. But remember, all these men that was beaten had also archiede great victory before they died, and their names would be remembered through all history. But Alexander the great had also luck with him, there was a lot of towns that surrendered, but I love Alexander the great and he was a genious in battle! But also, I admire Hannibal and Napoleon, also Ceasar.
hey, like a wise man ones said: "You have to loose before you can achiede great victory". And by the way, I have a lot of other warhero's than just Saladin...
Probably, but it isn't a rule. Certainly all great commanders was sometimes heavily defeated: Hannibal at Zama, Friedrick the Great at Kunersdorf, Napoleon at Leipzig and Waterloo. Even the Duke of Marlborough and the Prince Eugene got a Pyrrhic victory at Malplaquet and Caesar at Gergovia. I know only two commanders that were never defeated: Alexander and the Duke of Wellington.
No, I mean the history of Balian. Not the film. And it is many evidense that Saladin had respect for his enemy...that is his "thing". That is one of the great things we remember Saladin for...
Noldors...Saladin had a huge respect for crusaders...have you seen Kingdom of Heaven, or read the history of Balain of Ibelin, in that film and that history, it clearly shows that Saladin had a huge respect for his enemy....
The film "Kingdom of Heaven" is not at all historical. It's only a fictionalized history full of mistakes. No offens, but if you consider historically true that film, you don't know nothing about Crusades. You must read BOOKS: Michaud's "Histoire des Croisades", Runciman's "History of the Crusades", Bordonove's "Les Croisades et les Royaume de Jérusalem", etc.; you must read historical cronicles like the "Histoire d'Eracle" by William of Tyre and his continuers, etc.
Don't talk nonsense! Saladin have no respect for Christians, he was only an unscrupulous politician and clever commander. After the battle of Hattin, he ordered to kill all the Templar and Hospitaller Knights, and he sent nearly all the other prisoners to be sold as slaves in Mecca. Saladin's army never killed any innocent Christian!? You are playing, I hope... or you know nothing about the history of the Crusades.
Moreover Saladin never returned the Holy Cross to the Christians! The sultan promised to King Richard in 1191 that he would have returned the Cross, but than he didn't abide by the agreement: he probably ordered to destroy it to please his fanatic imamas; anyway the Holy Cross was never found again.
Saladin have never killed innocent civilian? I think that sending thousands of Christian civilians (they whom hadn't enough money to pay their ransom) to be sold as slaves in Mecca after the fall of Jerusalem in 1187 is like a murder. King Richard THE LIONHEART was a true man, differently by your DISSIMULATOR and HYPOCRITE Saladin. He was sometimes brudal, but no less than the sultan.
I think that the real problem is that you have never read a true book about the history of the Crusades, but you know only some stories in One Thousand and One Nights' style.

Firstly I don't go down as you, so I prefer to talk about historical facts. By your last post, I've had the confirmation that you don't know history, or better only that your imams tall you at school.
For the record (that you clearly don't know) King Richard heavily defeated your beloved sultan in two great battles: Arsuf (1191) and Jaffa (1192). In both battles your Saladin had numerical superiority. That's the facts! The King of England was a brave soldier and a clever commander. I think it is enough to confute your foolish rhapsodies.
I add that your Saladin was heavily defeated also in 1177, at Montgisard by the sublime King Baldwin IV. The sultan had about 30,000 men; King Baldwin had 455 knights and about thousand infantery men. Well, your belove Saladin (who escaped from the battlefield) was wiped out, losting 27,000 men at the end of his military campaign. Oh yes! this is really a true example of competency! ... LOL
There was another part of my post, but I don't know why it is lost!... Anyway, you are really clever at turn the table! You at first insult my religion, blamed the Holy Fathers, and than when I make reference of your imams, you get annoyed?!... No problem, I don't act insulted for this because I know what is loftiness of spirit!(differently by someone other...).
