@therealrightisleft Yes, she musta re-recorded this, or it's one of those alt. take things that're so popular. It is a pretty incredible version of that song, tho: the instruments, the tempo is what a studio arranger does, & Ms. Simone was always a premier arranger of pop standards. My Way was always recorded as a funeral dirge, but Ms. Simone makes it an affirmation.

@CocteauDalighari That is a terrific observation---she does makes it an affirmation! I kind of prefer the version from "Here Comes the Sun" because it sounds more (for lack of a better word) balanced---voice and arrangements are on par with each other. Here the voice, while fantastic, overpowers the amazing arrangement a bit. And I also LOVE the two minutes of the orchestra playing that wall of sound with the bongo drums. Nina's version is, for me, the definitive (English) version of My Way.

I LOVE Nina and did from the time I heard the first note of her undescribable voice, not to mention her philosophy on life. I saw every concert that she performed in the SF Bay Area and was honored to visit with her after standing in the rain outside in Marin after one of her concerts. We talked she autographed a picture of herself for me. I will cherish those moments always. I miss you Nina, you left your imprint on this earth which will last forever.

Nina's arrangement and delivery of this song are nothing short of amazing! However, this version is slightly different from the one I own (from "Here Comes The Sun"). In the version I own after she sings the lyric "my way" for the last time, we have this amazing section of music with no singing. I love both versions, but the one with just the music at the end is amazingly exuberant.

The beat here doesn't suit the mood of the song at all. Sinatra also gets way more emotion into his vocals in his performance. I'm a big Nina Simone fan, especially the songs she wrote herself. But Old Blue Eyes owns this one for sure.

@sitjar One of the things that I admire most about Nina Simone is that she did things "her way" and few artists have greater merit to sing this song for that reason. And she certainly sings this song in her own unique style too. But I stand by my original comment: to me, Sinatra's version is way more emotional and for that reason I enjoy hearing it more than Nina's. But its a purely subjective comment.
