  • Wish I could go back to the Days of Innocence.

  • This song is 30 years old. Doesn't time fly. It goes down on my list as being the most nicest ballads from the 1980's. I like it when it gets toward the end of the song and Alex Smith really puts his emotion into the finishing touch of the song. Heartfelt .

    : )

  • Memories! The GQ years for me. Surreal...

  • Happy Australia Day :)

  • alex smith was a good friend of my dad, they were friends for years, true story.

  • This song was reissued here in the US in '89, when I first heard it. It's older than I originally thought.

  • This was such a awesome song back then........I heard it on the radio one day and had to find the name of the group and title....it for some reason brings me to tears. I try and think back to 1982 and what I might have been going through at that time to make me cry now. It must have been a breakup with someone. Great song!!!!

  • Thanks nzoz1982 for sharing this exclent song. When I heard it back in the 80's didn't understand quite well the liryc, see I'm mexican, but the frase "What about me" pushing me to do something, make me tried hard at my school and sports because I wanted to poeple look at me and see as somebody that could do somenthing good in life. Well I'm still doing something for make this world better.

  • @osocargm It's great hearing from you! Thank you for sharing your story with me and everybody else who's reading it. I'm glad to hear that you found inspiration in this song and have worked on improving yourself and your life. I'm glad to know this Australian song had reached you for the good. All the best!

  • God, I wish a Snow White-esque character (i.e. an extremely fair person by anyone's standards) was an all powerful Queen of the Universe. As long as she really was fairest of them all, naturally! If someone fairer stepped up, to be really fair, she'd naturally hand them her crown and pass on all her power to them, no hesitation! And instead of tests of courage or might, there'd be tests of fairness.. Secret observations to find.... A nothing in the way - Let love and friendship be free - Ruler.

  • OMG. What a step back in time! I loved this when it first came out way back when. Thanks for the posting! Cx

  • Love this song.

  • Went to U of M... where did you ?

  • brilliant song, i remember this song and centerfold (J. Geils Band) used to get a thrashing from our local AM radio station way back in 1982... and i see other comments saying they were one hit wonders, not true at all they had a few other songs released.. bustin' loose and winners and the band also featured on the Top Gun soundtrack.. But it's this song that went to no.1 in oz and charted overseas..

  • 2:46 the only drum part we're all probably capable of.

  • Men at Work brought me here

  • Thats a question we all need to ask ourselves everyday. I graduated in 1982 listening to that one-hit wonder. Just remember, no matter what color, race, creed, etc.etc., we all matter!!

  • screw all you shit hooks that don't like it...go look at something else

  • Any piece of music that can create an emotion from you (either happy or sad) could easily be called "emo". That means anything from Mozart, Beatles, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and any other music artist in the past, present and future is by definition possible "emo" music.

  • This is my favorite song from the '80's! I thought he was cute...

  • C-UUUUUNT YOU SEE

  • All real emo was made in the 80s.

  • "Take a step back and see the little people. They might be young but they're the ones that make the big people big." A thought provoking perspective. Love it!

  • Can anyone say ONE HIT WONDER!!!

  • @MrRhino79 that's what they were... it's a justifiable label.

  • @nzoz1982 I thought they had about 5 or 6 top-50 tracks in Australia - Busting Loose and winners comes to mind, But this was the only one that charted in US and hit #1 in Oz

  • @FloydyTube That's true... they did have a few other songs that charted, so technically they're not one hit wonders... I've been meaning to get hold of the the 'Bustin Loose' video, thanx for the reminder!

  • @nzoz1982 Any idea where the band members are now?

  • @nzoz1982

    But what a one hit!!!

  • @MrRhino79 Who cares really if one hit wonder , I do not , great song.

  • There's no debating but certainly more substance than half the music now...

  • @MrRhino79 ...Hmmmm. Let me give it a try...here goes...ONE HIT WONDER. There, I said it. Now what's your point?

  • videos were so literal then: "there's a little boy waiting at the counter of the corner shop." *show little boy waiting at the corner of the counter shop*. gotta love the timpani outside the corner shop though, when did that ever happen?

  • OWS theme song.

  • I wonder what kind of job would accept someone without pants !!!!!!!!( 1:53)

    Maybe a porno movie.;)

  • @Diegobudeg8 There was a 'I don't give a shit anymore' kinda attitude swirling about at the time. It was common to find the disheartened with their pants down and everybody else 'not giving a shit'. Sad times, sad times... flashes and streakers lost their shock-value - everybody was non-plus.... oh such awful times... *sigh*

  • heard the remake in 1990. hey 1982, i'll pay you a nickel, a deflated beachball and a hot and now fast food burger rap to take this back!!!!

  • senza di me anna oxa

  • Whe I hear this, it makes me think and ache for all the beautiful babies and children being abused everyday of their little lives:(

  • Comment removed

  • What about me?

  • wow i never seen this vide

all these years only the radio i didnt even know they were aussy

  • worst video maybe ever...great song, but horrible video

  • @hoochings70 worst video had to be I know what boys like by The Waitresses

  • @hoochings70 Yes the video doesn't exactly match the intensity of the brilliant vocals does it.

  • This song is dedicated to Occupy Wall Street because the crony corporate capitalists and the fascist pig government take more then they give.

  • @n10dkf You mean the democrat liberal version which IS crony Capitalism. Capitalism run properly by Conservatives gives people OPPORTUNITY to succeed up the ladder in living standards as high as one CHOOSES to go. I started from the bottom, came to America with $35.00 in my pocket in 1981. Now I own a home outright and run my own business. It is all up to you! But Socialism, Communism? No way! And I don't want it here in America! This is why I came here. Get educated!!!!!!

  • @HHH100 Sir. You need to educated yourself about the left-right paradigm. Two wings of the same bird. Both democrat and republican are bringing this country down. Neither party is interested in the constitution or real free market capitalism. They've pulled the "ladder" up behind them and pass laws that only financially benefit themselves and their buddys. Please do some research on this subject. Our childrens future depends on it. Good Luck to you and congratulations on your success.

  • @n10dkf Hold on there, don't bring the song into that.

  • @ScabiousGarde Ok, then what meaning does this song have for you? Please, thrill us with your acumen.

  • anna oxa cover is also best than it:

    youtube.com/watch?v=RSCn6Y_jg8Q

  • Awful! There's nothing worse than Deplorable Wimp Rock.

  • wow, I was totally taken by suprise, this song was amazing, wow.

  • This should be the theme song for occupy wall street!

  • @daddy191182 I started this as just that yesterday,& my friends on FB are passing it on as we type, including my kids friends!

  • great song!!! reminds me of high school.

  • absolute timeless classic

    great video

    beautiful lyrics

    amazing voice

moving pictures deserved way more fame than the few hits they had !!!!!!!!

  • 2:22 Those are very strange-sounding timpani, especially when they start to jingle.

  • GREAT SONG!!!

  • Wow, i didnt even know this was a local song. I listened to this over and over as a teenager. I thought it was from the States.

  • Who's that awesome young singer?

  • @arpionatore Alex Smith...

  • @nzoz1982 Thanks.

  • Go Occupy Wall Street Protesters!!! This song is for you guys!!!

  • wasnt this in a van-dam movie. I think its bloodsport when he is sad that his fat friend got his ass whoped by Tung Po, (or whatever his name was, the guy who did snot rockets and shaked his tits around)

  • I have lived this song since the young age of five & I still live it to this day. This song has so much meaning to me throughout life.

  • @chant3ll377 i remember when i first heard this song in the early 80's and it resonated with me as well. I t was not a big hit but still it hit home.i am surprised that others have picked up this song and made it their own.It is the lamant of the disenchanted and all we can do is seek each other out.

  • thank you for sharing this. means a lot to me

  • you can already see back then that bitch in the background is a fucking asshole, shit, she even looks like bitches today, shit, was there ever a time when women weren't bitches.....probably have to go back centuries, no women's lib, women knew romance, and totally took pleasure in being buttfucked, deepthroating, etc.

wenches, etc. shit i had to born and live among fucked up modern women who are teases and only care about money and stupid shit, women have sucked for years -divorce rate -no love

  • @emailperson8 dear lord, you need massive healing. such hatred is sick.

  • @emailperson8 This is in response to a classic music video with reference to an extra in the background of the clip????? Dude, you are seriously damaged goods. I can only suppose tat either you have just been dumped because your GF figured you to be a loser (your post in fact confirms this) or you are a bitter 30 year old virgin who has woken up to find yet more hair on your pillow a deeper ass print on your mattress and the realisation you are never going to get layed!

  • What a bloody classic.

  • Wonderful isn't it, I know the feeling........

  • classic song brings back so many memories

  • Who can dislike this song? What a great song, great lyrics and overall musical masterpiece! The 80's had terrible fashion, but the best songs!!!!!!

  • @Kojak721 kerry packer hated this song ... he's dead but this song lives on

  • shannon nole butchered this song.there's no way he hits the high notes like this guy.

  • This song makes me cry.

  • @willow003

Me too. This song is even more true now than it was then. I miss my naive depression of olde.

  • one of about 1000 great tunes from the best ERA i was happy that grew up in the awsome 80's.They do not make music like this any more todays music is crap thats why they call RAP

  • Bloody classic! reminds you of the good 'ol days!

  • When i sing this, people hate me because they think it's shannon nole. I hate them for not knowing shit about good music.

  • :43 "cunt you see" well no one's gonna want to talk to you when you've got a mouth like that, sonny.

  • I got a bonner just listening to this guy....

  • Was this re-released around 1989? I bought the cassette single of this in 1989

  • @siffil8 Yes it was re-released in 1989, I remember it getting a lot of air play on the radio toward the end of summer that year. Great tune, only in the 80's.

  • Another twenty-one died while in the employ of Forte Food, a catering service that fed the traders at Cantor Fitzgerald. Many of the dead were Latino, or light-skinned black men, or Indian, or Arab.

    Peace,

    V

  • In South Australia, high school has always started in Year 8.

  • When I arrived in Adelaide from Whyalla in July 1982, there were a lot of corner shops in my area. But most of them are gone. But there are a few still open as of August 2011. I still live in Adelaide. One reason for the demise of corner shops is the land they are located on. You can sell the buildings and land and convert them into a sub-divided houses and make a fortune now, along with good tax breaks like negative gearing, etc. This is why houses are so un-afforadble right now.

  • Imagine hearing this song on the radio, and all your 7th grade buddies are at the pool-they are all carrying on about the pretty girls and I am only staring at the guy on the diving board. I knew everything would be different for me from that point forward. Happy and very sad all at once.

  • "Her dreams walk in and out" ~

    Prolific lyrics ~

    Peace,

    V

  • 0:59 shut up & gimme those humbugs!

  • ..

  • I too was at the state theatre for the 30 year concert. What a great night & even better that the girl who stared in the original video clip was also present!

  • I saw Moving Pictures about 2 weeks ago live. They sounded great and had lost none of their talent. I can now say that I've seen What About Me sung live by Moving Pictures. That's one off the bucket list.

  • You know what I miss? Corner shops! Fuck Woolies and Coles and their duopoly!

  • @gemmy7 you know what i miss? Woolies and Coles and their duopoly. Fuck online shopping!!!

  • @gemmy7 move to Tassie, there is a corner shop for every man woman and child

  • @gemmy7 You know what I miss? Going down to the corner store, and asking for $2 worth of mixed $0.1cent mixed lollies. I remember washing my dads car, cutting the grass for $2. Damn, those were the days!!

  • I heard this song last night as bumper music to a radio show.

    AWESOME ! ! ! ! ! Goose bumps. Amazing.

It took me three hours to track it down. I found all kinds of covers but when I finally found this . . . . . .

    All I can say is WOW ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • @10cuddles Listen to the lyrics...

  • elton john would do a good cover of this song.

  • I was living in denver at the time and the disc jockeys called this the "whiner's concerto". I hated that characterization and I've loved this song from day 1.

  • the video is sooo not what i would do.. but hey. the times. that was a long time ago and the new no better.

  • wow.. i remember my 25 year old was a few months in the making. i was young and tired and this song i used to cry to. life moved on great,,, still tear up on this song though.

  • Man talk about memories, 30 damn years ago already wow!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved this song as a jr high kid and I still do. Thanks for a great underdog song!

  • This is a perfect example of why you should not really sing while filming your music video and just lip sync. Other than that, I love this song. Funny how it came back in 1989 out of nowhere for some reason.

  • the kid in this video left his destiny up to somebody else.if you have somethin to say but no one sees or hears you, than light a candle and scream

  • i was a freshman in college when i first heard this song & it's always stuck with me. our local 'mix' radio station played it out of the blue the other day-- brought me instantly back to that time.... amazing song! thanks for posting!

  • Thumbs up if you thought this was going to be a Rush video.

  • Sounds like Meatloaf....I wonder if he wrote this?

  • Wow. Those timpanis sound a lot like tom-toms and and a hi-hat!

  • I think alot of people that are suffering in this life can truly relate to this song! It's not just a whiny song like the person said below! I think with belief in a Sovereign God ,people can take comfort that God will see to them in beautiful and miraculous ways! Sincerely, BobbyK

  • What a horrorfyingly whiny piece of shit .....just dreadful !

  • luv this song!!!

  • Wow. Talk about taking me back to a time where life was simple and easy. Thank you so much for posting this. :)

  • What a good song

  • Whats an Aussy song -in the 80's-without a sax and a harmonica?

  • fantastic song <3

  • you cant bet an original.shannon noll & his fans take note!!

  • That girl behind the counter is the reason why this song became a hit! Who is she?

  • @tdforbust yeah right!!not

  • It was strangely re-released 7 years later in 1989, and did even better than in 1982

  • Wow, I had completely forgotten about this song, no stations play it much anymore

  • what ever happened to this group? it's amazing to see so much insight in the lyrics about "the little people who make the big people BIG!"

In comparison, i was listening to a song by Britney Spears. It stated: "There are only two kinds of people. The ones that 'entertain' and the ones who 'serve'...

i think the '80's music was far more in depth. as well as less insulting..

  • I really didn't appreciate the 80's artist the way I should have. Compared to todays radio this is brilliant.

  • The first time I saw this clip was on the Paul Hogan show and the other song that featured on that show was Spit Enzs' 6 months on a leaky boat.

I was 12 years old in 1982 had just started high school and life was good.

Good times, great music. Wish I could go back, I reckon it would be awesome!

Thank you nzoz1982 for uploading this great song.

  • @MrRockabilly70 if you manage to find away to go back let me know and i will come with you.

  • @rougeprime I saw a great comment once about time travel posted by another aussie here on youtube that had me laughing for a week. It went something like this:

"As soon as I get them parts for that flux capacitor and get it running again, we're outta here". ha, ha.

If only I could mate, you'd be the first on my list! I don't know what I'd do first to change some of the things that have happened over the years but things would definitely be different the second time around. Have a good weekend.

  • @MrRockabilly70

'Tis America now! 6 years in a Leaky Boat!

  • @elachie

Chin up and hang in there my friend. Eventually things will start to get better and this miserable financial crisis will pass, it can't last forever. America is a powerful country, you'll bounce back bigger and better!

  • @MrRockabilly70 you were 12 in high school?? :oO

  • @hithr3000

Yes, I sure was in high school.

I started Year 7 which is our first year of high school here in Australia in February of 1982 and turned 12 in March. So, I was actually 11 when I started the year. An academic year for primary and secondary school students in most states here in Australia runs from about early Feb through to early December each year (give or take a week or two).

  • OH MY GOSH. I had SO forgotten about this one.....not intentionally, but you know what I mean. Amazing track....sigh... I had such fun in the 80's....and the music...wow

  • This song is yet another example of how much better 80s music was than any decade.

  • @easttcobb Well said that the '80s was clearly the best decade in terms of music, pretty much of all time.

I didn't leave Top 40 music, it left me...

  • So much better than the cover, no offence Shannon!
