  • Great Job On One Of The Beatles Tune! "A La Brazil!

  • The Beatles version and this one give off 2 different vibes. Two different styles all together.I think they are both great for different reasons.I,m glad The Beatles wrote it and Sergie Mendes and Brasil covered it.

  • Waaayyy Back in the day, this was a regular on WJR/ Detriot radio during a Tiger rain delay. The BEST cover next to the Beatles of course

  • she looks like sharon tate..

  • This hit by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 was the 108th #1 song on the Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #6 on the Top 40 charts.

  • Libe this song. Mu favoraye.

  • Such rich voices, when I was a kid and used to hear them on the radio, I always thought they were the epitome of female beauty. Just hearing their voices, I saw them on a few album covers so I knew they were very beautiful ladies.

  • I am baffled... This just blew my mind!

  • I too think this is the best version, absolutely.

  • i m 60, best version of this song. beatles are second best.;-))

  • best cover of the history of this sing!

  • ...

  • I liked their version better than The Beatles'.

  • And he is still cute 40 yrs later. Just add gray hair like the rest of us. Sergio is still HOT. Wish I could spend time with him. I think Lana still sings with Brazil 66.

4STRIPGUY, I didn't know they were the same girls (women) I remember Lana's name but remember the other Red head , so good know they are still together, I was in my teens too when I was introduced to Brazil 66. Boy, our little emotion were founded on a passionate musical foundation!!

  • @LaLaLeahd001 - I'm different - I always wished in the back of mind when I was a teen in that I could have met and spent time with BOTH those lovely ladies at the same time...... LOL!!! I find them so 'classy'....

  • And he is still cute 40 yrs later. Just add gray hair like the rest of us. Sergio is still HOT. Wish I could spend time with him. I think Lana still sings with Brazil 66.

  • Kinda loses the feel of the song.

  • Beautiful! What an amazing album!

  • A melhor de Sérgio Mendes e Brasil 66. Linda canção!

  • This song was written by Paul McCartney.

  • this sounds like lift music

  • Me encanta la interpretación de Sergio Mendez de esta canción, just love it!

  • Devine! Sergio Mendes que figuraço, what a guy!

  • One of the few ocassions when the Beatles could be improved upon, very rare, but possible now and again...

  • Didn't the Beatles write The Fool on the Hill?

  • @RileySkye100 actually ... it was Paul McCartney

  • @RileySkye100 Brasil'66 is the name of the band. So it's Sergio Mendes with Brasil'66. People tend to be confused because it seems it was done before the song was created but no.

  • thank god the person had the insighe to film this it might have been lot forever

  • Excellent performance!! Great vocals!!!!

    !

  • The rehearsals for this must have been a blast! Just love it when Sergio Mendes smiles at 1:49, love the way he plays that Fender Rhodes, too.

  • A beautiful sound!

  • @radarlove2418 If I remember correctly Lani is the Brunette

  • @mdbrowncd The brunette is Gracinha Leporace, Sergio Mendes' wife. When this video was made Lani Hall had just left the group to pursue a solo career. The blonde is Karen Philipp who replaced Janis Hansen in 1968.

  • @radarlove2418 Hi...the two female singers are Janis Henson and Lani Hall (also known as Mrs. Herb Alpert)

  • "WAH-PAH!!" @ 2:09

  • Has Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 ever reunited?

  • sergio mendez and his group is magnificent !

  • is the lady on the right, dark hair, Lani Hall??

  • @fresnofalcon47 It doesn't look like her does it?

  • @fresnofalcon47 the dark-haired lady on the right is Gracinha Leporace, Sergio Mendes' wife. By the tiem this video was recorded, Lani Hall had just left the group to pursue a solo career.

  • @hardbossa thanks so much. I didn't think it was Lani, but when this was recorded I was young. I love the Beatles, but this version is very unique and has great harmony. How long was Gacinha with the group? and was this the recorded version that did well on the charts??

  • @fresnofalcon47 Gracinha has been intermitently present in the various incarnations of Sergio Mendes groups, since then until the present days. This was not the recorded version that did well on the charts. The lineup on the recorded version was a bit different, both the accompanying musicians and the vocalists, the vocalists being Lani Hall and Karen Philipp, who appears also on this video.

  • @hardbossa Thanks again, you seem to have a great wealth of knowledge regarding the group and it's members

  • @fresnofalcon47 thanks for the nice comment. Yes I have a reasonable knowledge of this group gattered since 1969 when I had the opportunity to watch a live show from them in Brazil exactly with the same formation that recorded this song. An unforgetable experience!

  • Wow, I just love their smooth sound......... who's version was first?

  • @drmrls1 The Beatles. . .

  • This version doesn't have the lines, "But he never listens to them/He know that they are the fools." And, to me, those lines are crucial

  • THOSE WOMEN VOICES ARE UNREAL BEAUTIFUL

  • I think the Beatles version was a little more darker that this, this version is a more lighter!!

  • Sergio-You are the man

  • vergane glorie steengoed

  • How can this be from 66? The Fool on the Hil wasn't recorded in 67?

  • @evanhenrique True.

  • @evanhenrique brazil '66 was just the name of the band.

  • @evanhenrique

the group was called brasil '66 during the sixties, brasil '77 during the seventies en brasil'88 during the eighties

  • Very cool song and excellent version- almost as old as the original. I love their voices, but which is the dominant singer? I know on the albums there is one singer who has that powerful and memorable voice. Mendez knows how to play a Rhodes piano with so much groove and this is the perfect accompaniment.

  • 3/4? cool

  • Beatles are genius at melodies and lyrics, but SErgio Mendez is able to add some finesse to their music!

  • The Beatles are amazing, a grand landmark in music history. However, there's no better version of this song than this one. Sergio Mendes & Brasil ´66 are divine!

  • @monesv I am a great Beatles fan, but I agree this version is just amazing!!!!

  • Sergio Mendes é mais conhecido no exterior do que no Brasil.

    Muito interessante essa versão!

  • we met them at the band entrance at U of GA in 1968-9, and it was Karen Philipp and Lani Hall - they took us backstage with them and when the cops tried to kick me and my buddy out, the two ladies said we were with them! I have photos from the side of the stage and did a portrait of Sergio later.. shoulda drawn Karen and Lani instead!

very nice people and good singers..

    .. the Jman..

  • Wow....I can only imagine how blown away I would have been in your place (of course I was only eight years old then).

I've loved listening to SM'66 since their earliest days...and I'm happy to say I've loved their music every day, even after I came of age.

It has to be nice to realize that at one time in your life, even if only for a moment, you were close to a pair of real ladies :D

Of course, if you were very fortunate, you might even have married one later on....lol.

  • Haha, great story. You two were a pair of VERY fortunate guys on that day....

You were there at the beginning--rare!

  • One more thing - I use to listen to this song when I was a teen and always wondered if the girls were as pretty as their voices - 40+ years later - I just found out, Yes, they are! Thank you for posting this video.

  • OK, but these are not the girls on the original recording you used to listen as a teen, except for the blonde (Karen Philipp).

  • I know ... But any girl that could sing as good as what I hear just can't be all that bad.... :) Even so, that's ok. More importantly is to just listen to a pretty voice and enjoy the music.

  • Agreed. Good luck!

  • @4stripguy: Herb Alpert (of Tijuana brass fame and A & M records riches) agreed, he married the dark haired songstress! :)

  • @potgab7 - He definitely has good taste.... : )

  • To me, This version by '66 is much better than the original.. It is so pleasant for my senses. Pretty girls, pretty music, pretty voices... I find myself watching the video, closing my eyes and literally 'moving' to the music. So beautiful to listen to.

  • Love Brazil 66. I was a little girl playing these songs.

  • Has Brasil 66 ever reunited?

  • Thank you Hardbossa, the reason is clare. Gracinha Leporace and Karen Philipp are lineup in Brasil 77' . Lanni Hall was in 66'

  • Answering at DJ Caesar and COLECCIONISTA80, the brunette is Lani Hall.

  • To put an end on this discussion. This is a later formation of the Brasil '66 group just about when their their name were been changed to Brasil '77. The lineup you are seing here includes: Piano: Sergio Mendes / Vocalists: Gracinha Leporace (Sergio Mendes' wife) and Karen Philipp / Percussion: Laudir de Oliveira / Bass: Sebastião Neto / Drums: Claudio Slon / Guitar: Oscar Castro Neves. By this time Lani Hall had just left the group to pursue a solo career.

  • thanks for the info. i wach this video from time to time and it really bothered my why it says brasil '66 when lani hall isn't there. lol. thanks again.

  • que buen arreglo, tiene un gran swing, cover the beatles, debe ser de 1968 o 1969 ?

  • Paul Mac Cartney is the owner of this song.

  • is the blonde vocalist Karen phillips??

  • That would be Lani Hall.

  • NO MY FRIEND! I know how Lani Hall looks and she's not the blonde....google lani hall and you will see for yourself.

  • i think it could only be Janis Hansen, and the other looks

like Gracinha Leporace, and this is not possible because they never played together!

  • you´re right the brunette.... that's Gracinha Leporace

  • but How come in 1966? shouldn't Lani Hall be there?

  • yes but she was dark haired and - skinned at the beginning and it´s sometimes very difficult to distinguish her from gracinha!

  • @COLECCIONISTA80 Karen Philipp is the tall blonde on the left. Her other claim-to-fame is as the delicious Lt. Dish on the early M*A*S*H episodes.

    Un saludo.

  • This song makes me happy, too.

  • This song always makes me really happy. :)

  • Lennon and McCartney. Say no more!

  • Es dificil superar a los beatles pero...esta es genial.
