I am amazed someone your age likes Brian Eno (& Bowie), very cool. I was lucky to see David Bowie's "under the serious moon light" tour in 1983. Have you listened to the "Talking Heads" ?
I dont know if you'll take this the right way or not...
but poeple who have seen your videos and know me,say that I am a younger you [which is not a bad thing in my eyes...possibly different for your perception]
I feel the same way about music of today, if I hear it on the radio or when they play it in my school cafeteria I feel no connection to it whatsoever. It just offers me nothing, and for a while I thought something was wrong with me for not liking anything except for the classic rock my dad listens to, but I found Bowie and loads of other older bands and don't worry about not knowing anything about contemporary music. Maybe this will change one day, but I'll be pretty happy in the meantime!
You just summed up neatly what I have thought about Bowie I too graviate to bands and muscians that have some Bowie influence. My current fave is Goldfrapp.. their last CDs Sweet Cherry has some huge Bowie/Bolan/ Glam Rock set to an 80's beat. Dont know if you have managed to see DB live. His voice is amzing. I know I;m biased but he gives one of the best performances I havew ever seen at The Point, Dublin. People were opnely weeping whe he sang Life on Mars.
Thank you for effectively explaining my music philosophy. Others just have so much trouble comprehending the expanse of Bowie! I think it is hard for people to comprehend *gasp* that girls under 20 (ish or anything under 35!) could actually truly know the awesomeness that is Bowie. Oh dear, now I sound like a lunatic.
and yeah, u should give other music a chance. If u dont feel ready enough to do it, take some good artists from the 70's that are not completly comercial.
I don't know that Spice Girls song, but isn't it simply Ziggy Marley they are singing about?
Bowie took the futuristic look of Clockwork Orange as a basis for the Spiders from Mars. And he used Walter Carlos' electronic rendition of Beethoven's ninth as an intro when Ziggy took the stage.
Well they say Marley Ziggy. It could be that but then why would Mel C dress as Bowie when they are dressing as the characters from the song? I've thought about this a lot.
What about the Killers. Do u listen to them. They are amazing. Though lots of music today does kind of suck. Like Fall out boy and Panic at the Disco. Those bands are awful.
you know, Jimmy Destri from Blondie has some connection to him too, he performed with David Bowie on the set of Saturday Night Live in 1979 which i thought was pretty cool!!
i love your opinions and points on views on almost everything. you're amazing and you're the first person i saw on youtube when i first came on it. when youtube was REAL when it first started.
i love your videos especially this one, the music i like are basically the ones from the 50s all the way to the early 80s, the 90s are alright too but the thing i hate most is the modern pop music, they just sound the same and they all bring out pointless messages and you are listening to it and thinking, "What the fuck?". with David Bowie and all the other greats from the 20th century out there knows how to bring music to the people and its all great stuff, i'd love to stick to that music
ppl need to grow up... dont let them get to you... i listen to alot of music related to mike patton, cause i belive him to be the messiah... jk... i jus like experimental music... anywho, jus keep going which ever way bowie may blow you... oh, and i think frank zappa is cool too... i think u will be a very good movie maker someday... love & light...
Bowie and I are greying together. Yes, I still enjoy his music and, like you, I find much of 'todays sound' just factory music which all seems to sound the same. The groove is becoming too narrow.
Hey Melody, I've never commented before though, I've been a subscriber for a long time. And as happenstance would have it, in other words, speaking of music, it popped into my head the other day that you would really dig on: 'Imperial Drag' check em out on myspace.
The thing that I do is when I listen to a song is I try to avoid finding out the genre, since I do not allow myself to fall into a specific category. Putting a label on yourself as a specific fan of a genre is pretty stupid, and limiting yourself to one artist is pretty stupid as well. I just go by the basic rule, if it sounds good listen to it, and if it sucks, it sucks. Rap is my least favourite genre, as it is for many people, but I still listen to rap songs that I find catchy.
I still make regular videoblogs sometimes on LiveVideo (more comfortable putting them over there) but really not as many as I used to. Because I grew a little bored with doing it ALL THE TIME and because I am not comfortable sharing that much information online anymore.
A lot of the time too music tends to grow on people. It's rare these days that I hear something I instantly like. Some music is dense and needs some repeated listens. But I like your musical taste (well except, I'm not so much an Spice Girls fan)
Cool! Six degrees of music separation, Bowie edition. I feel the same way as you about most newer music. My reason? My time on the planet started about 30 years before yours. So, most of the bands you like were popular when I was coming of age.
I'm not sure exactly how much it costs because I got it earlier this year at Toys R Us when I worked there. I can kind of play some stuff but not well. I've been getting back into it lately though. I would be too embarrassed to play on here.
I never got into Bowie's music. But it's nice to see someone your age appreciate music from that era. If we ever met we might have something to talk about.
I think it shouldn't matter, you like what you like. you can't help it and if it changes through out the years as you get to be older then it does if not then so be it. :)
This is a fine video. You're doing a great job, Melody. As I have mentioned a few times before, I am amazed that someone your age is interested in the type of music you listen to. THAT IS COOL...BE YOUR OWN PERSON...
