fufu is a flour made in the pot or microwave. it is like a goey food dont kno how to explain it. it is mostly made in west africa. it is eaten with light soups so it can be drank with it. its quite tasty!!

I've only had Ghanian and Nigerian Fufu and it's pretty tasty-does not have the same affect when eaten with utensils..got to use your hands...lol I prefer to have my own bowl of fufu though and not share.....something about all those habds digging into the same bowl and fingering licking etc..kinda grosses me out. nonetheless, still very tasty.

My husband is from Ghana and I am from the U.S. He talks alot about FuFu and cook and easts his native foods here. I would love to try it sometime. I never knew that you did not chew FuFu and also that it was served "family style" and everyone eats from the same bowl, nor did I know that it was eaten with your fingers. I suppose I better get with it, it was nice to see video of his culture and his home in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

When I was in Ghana recently, I took a workshop where I learned to make fufu. The lady teach the class was Fante. One of the Ghanaian guys that was there was showing me how to eat it properly. He told me several times to chew it, and that that would ensure good digestion. I'm not sure if there is a steadfast rule. Maybe some families chew and others don't. Either way it was a great experience.

The fufu I had was pretty soft, almost as soft as mashed potatoes with just a little bit more elasticity to it. You definitely could swallow it without chewing with no problem, but I did as I was told from someone with more experience with it than me. If I recall correctly though, this was the only time I had fufu while in Ghana so I don't have other versions to compare it to.
