I don't have a WiFi hotspot at work and don't want to tie up my work computer when checking stock charts throughout the day. Not having WiFi available, I couldn't use the Kindle Fire which appears to be excellent in terms of its web browsing capabilities. Didn't want to upgrade my cell phone either to the 4G phones which are capable of producing hotspot Wifi. Because you would have to purchase an additional data package from your mobile carrier.
Best review yet I've seen. I just bought the Kindle keyboard 3g. The ability to check web and email was a trigger puller for me as I wanted the e-reader but to also have it be used for limited email and web browsing for free while traveling. Not sure if you mentioned browsing mobile web sites to load faster and not have to use the "article mode" as much.
This was a great presentation. I was considering purchasing a Kindle. off Ebay. I am now running to buy it. Although Amazaon is getting ready to come out with an Android tablet, I do not see that replacing the Kindle, due to the difference in screens. If they manager to get the Kindle screen on a tablet, that would be an entirely new ball game! I also do not see the 'free' 3G lasting too much longer, especially with the tablet coming out. Amazon may drop the free 3G on the Kindle.
Thanks for that. I tend to agree that the web browser is not just a 'novelty'. Browsing on the Kindle may not be the best but it seems better than using a phone - and it is free!.
I love my Kindle 3G. I have been taking with me more than my iPad because of the free 3G web browsing service that Amazon provides. Makes me wish that I had shelled out the extra cash for an iPad 3G now!
@iSocialAddict hello there. I was just wondering. Can the kindle surf the net with just the 3g alone without wifi? Please let me know. I am so interested. :)
Wow!! Amazing job! Your video is the best kindle browser demonstration by far. Phenomenal presentation! Everyone else makes the browser seem like a functionless toy.
First great review of the webkit browser. Really found this video useful as I am expect my kindle 3 to arrive any day now.
However, you did as mentioned below by "garcianuno 1984" compare the IPad and Kindle 3 a bit too much. They are very different devices with different purposes. The web ability is one thing in common but the IPad wins there.
You did make a great point about the Wifi restrictions today though and how the Kindle 3G/Wifi dominates in its ability to give users free access.
Excellent review, i was still questioning myself whether having wifi was more important than having a good (finally glare-free touch screen) touch screen and a metal body as in the Sony PRS-650.
I had no idea the kindle browsed that well, and that even the funky control scheme didn't matter so much. The free 3G for browsing (which i always thought just allowed access to the kindle store) is sort of an easter egg, and makes me start considering buying the 3G version instead...
You're dead right mate. The browser is the best kept secret on Kindle 3G . Being able to send and receive email anywhere for free! It's worth having for that alone apart from its main use.
Amazon could end up ruing the day they thought of including that for fee.
I wonder how long before they start charging or limiting the use somehow?

so build a button in a touchscreen phone or tablet, just to scroll down. I don´t think that this would make sense, it is no improvement.
but nice srufing

Page down in IPAD??? LOLOLOLOLOL
have you ever tried one before?????? i love the black and white web experience.
clicking on links is also very easy.... just touch the navigation pad 100 times looking for the link...
i´m sure it´s the best reading experience ever. really.
but don´t compare it to IPAD... its just ... NONSENSE!!!!!
