Thats Polyfil, its the stuff which is in teddybears for little kids :P. Its also used for aquariums for the filter. It allows gas exchange but bacterias cant come in, and also used for inoculation. So you dont need to open up the whole glas.

Those look good man,.Are you still growing ? I agree with you when you said a cube is a cube 100 % but have you tried penis envy yet.If not you need to check them out man.They really do pack a punch every time.I have some going now I got from sporeworks.I love P.E. I won't ever touch another cube again.

@TheRaspberryFlavored it really doesnt matter. A cubensis is a cubensis :) Maybe they look a bit different for different strains but if you read at shops or so that these ones have a more colored trip or a more relaxing trip or whatever, thats totally BS. It just comes down to set & setting. Same for harvest, maybe you will have smaller ones but then you get more each cake. For other strains you get bigger ones but less but in the end its the same yield.

@crusher143 or let´s say it different. You have 1 cake with brown rice flour, now the mushrooms will grow and grow and grow till there is no more nutrition so at the end you always will get the same result in yield dont matter what kind of strain you take or how many flushes you had.

If you are really interested in growing mushrooms then you should go to "shroomery(.)org", it´s a very helpful forum and also has alot of tutorials. And also here you have a very good video about the PF Tek method which is the easiest way "watch?v=ZHJQrsZFQdE" .And I also will upload an other very good documentation about how to grow mushrooms since I couldnt find it on youtube anymore, just be a bit patient.

The cakes were fully white, but you can roll em after it in verm for even better water storage, it really makes a difference. The web cam was just bad, I´m sorry for that, the dark is vermiculite.

i never grew mushrooms but did some reading and i always thought that you want the cakes to be white loaded with Mycelium for best growth. those look dark i thought that was bad for growing. but again i have never attempted it the fact that so many things can go wrong made me never try. but i am looking into the easiest most productive method there is and i think i am gonna try it. i want to grow a few species would i have to do each seperate or can they be all together.

@turs1405 you just soak em in water for like 6-12 hours and they are again ready to go. You can repeat that a few times until all nutrients are gone from the cake, mostly 3-4 times.

@justinhawkins78 yes, I always mix up 3 parts verm, 1 part water and 1 1/2 part of brf. If you do too much water you always will get yeast and too little and it will stunt its growth. Always mix up first the verm with water and stir it well and after that put the BRF in, if you do it otherwise it will clump up and won´t be really fluffy.

@XxMatthewxXDopexX depends on temperatures, it´s about 2-4 weeks. Keep in mind mycelium does grow perfectly fine if its a bit colder than the ideal temps. but mold, bacterias etc. will have it much harder to grow. For me I just put the glasses in a closet witout spending any extra cash on heaters and they are done in 3-4 weeks.

i found that rolling your cakes in verm allowe molds to grow on the surface of the cakes, but nothing can grow on bare mycelium, therefore i say dunk but dont roll

@TheLivingfreekshow i never ever had problems with rolling cakes in verm, even if there are mold spores etc there is no nutrition on it to grow and the cake itselfs when fully colonized defend themselves against bacterias, spores etc. till the cakes becoming weak. That happens if there isnt much nutrition anymore in the cake, for me its usually after the 3rd-4th. harvest.

Congrats on your first grow! Not bad results. Now that you've had a successful grow, look into the casing method for fruiting, using a rye grain substrate and a manure/fert/peatmoss/verm casing. You'll yeild about 10x more shroomies :). It's very easy, and only takes about a week longer, but pays off big time in the end! Again, congrats! I know how frustrating the first time can be.. a lot of trial and error. Happy shrooming!

@YafreyWolfrey Hi, thx for your tip. Yes I know about the rye method but for that you really need a pressure cooker.

As for the green mold part for my first grow, I have to say I was very lucky. Ive done now some more grows and it never was so good as the first time and also had alot of problems with green mold :(. Now lets see how it works out with a pressure cooker and rye. I will buy me one at the weekend now.

@buckshotshawties you always harvest bevore the veil opens up. If spores land somehwere on mycel there wont be growing anymore shrooms but you want to harvest, harvest and harvest again till there is no nutrition amymore in the cake.

Where do you get your spores from?

I didn´t have any problems with green mold. I have already set new glasses to colonize and after 1 week I can see already mycel and again no problems with mold or bacterias. If you doing the PF-TEK method with brown rice flour you wont need a pressure cooker. A cooking pot on a stove will do it, just let the glasses sit there in the steam for 90 min. Be sure to fill in some water as needed so it wont get dry and put something in the pot at the bottom like a towel where the glasses can sit on.
