  • Everybody thinks that Baz Luhrmann is so cool, but the text of this song is actually from the journalist Mary Schmich.(Look the name up on Wikipedia). Baz Luhrmann is a director, found this text, liked it and made a song out of it.

  • i like this song if you call it a song

  • What a fab song, i recently lost my dad, so the "Get to know your parents, you never know how long you will have them"! Is a great bit of advice.

  • I had no Idea Nixon was Noble

  • Damn - 3 zombies?

  • as soon as you read this comment, turn your computer off and go somewhere with some1.

  • @torchLo i'm going to go hug my mum now. :)

  • Way too much in that vid for me to get in one viewing. I'm bookmarking it so I can watch it again and let more sink it.

  • this song is truly amazing i never heard anything like this it breaks down life with some best advice i heard, floss , stretch, this song made me appreciate thanks Baz Luhrmann

  • this is the best thing i have ever seen

  • bang on!!!

  • Such a nice vibe! This was a column written by Mary Schmich for the Chicago Tribune as her first piece. Quite on the ball!

  • This was our graduation song, still really hits me.

  • "You are NOT as fat as you imagine." *HAS ANOTHER DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER WHILE COMPLAINING ABOUT HEMORRHOIDS*

  • My Head of year showed my year this for our last assemerly on my last day of school year 11, and it really wises you up and makes you realise that you really need to appreciate life and your family and friends. things like this make you realise life is too short you just need to enjoy everything to the max!

  • "Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly" That was my favorite phrase. But i actually loved the whole video, it's like documentary that talks about some thoughts that are actually really true.

    I really liked it :D

  • This guy knows what he is talking about!!

  • i feel so free after watching this!.. thannk you to the brilliant genius of Baz!

  • better in England!

  • As a stressed out high schooler with exams looming that seem as if they decide my future, this reminded me that the future is uncertain, so live in the present. Thanks for making me smile for the first in days.

  • "floss" i like how that's slipped in there :P

  • I don't want to get old. I know already that I'll regret so much!

  • this video honestly might have changed my life

  • im pretty fat.

  • @ledias65 congratulations, it takes someone awesome to be both pretty and fat. it's better than being ugly. at least you can diet. it's cheap. ugly people need plastic surgery, that's expensive :P smile, cheer up, life goes on and you get to decide how it goes. Sure, you get obstacles, but it's no fun walking in a straight line on a flat surface anyway! PS no one is truly ugly.

  • I love this more than anything else.

  • ...and remember: no matter what a stripper tells you - there is NO SEX in the champagne room.

  • It's true - I wasn't as fat as I thought I was...

  • sounds like Micheal Dougless

  • every once in awhile we trip over something that is so real and freeing... for everyone I love..... THIS IS FOR YOU.... GERDA

  • i love this video! I have no idea what i wanna do with my life, but this video showed me i have time to think and appreciate life :)

  • Very sound advice. The other thing that I wish people would stop doing is cutting themselves off from life going on around them. I see so many people walking around with their little gadgets texting people instead of talking to people and blocking out the sound of what's going on around them with headphones. If we all walk around like this we will lose the art of conversation and the ability to speak to one another.

  • i heard this the otha day on a film and fort omg this is amazing and now im here and OMG THIS IS AMAZING =D

  • I like this song, it describes everything I believe in.

  • I have tears in my eyes when I watch this video. I realize how much we are lost in this greedy sick world depriving us of our dignity and pushing us to the limits, you always have be the best, chase your career get a new car , new fashion clothes and so on forgetting what;s really important in our lives. Who the fuck is doing this to us, we're like rats in a maze .

  • congradulations. you just took the first step out of the maze.

  • @tomekkicaj we're doing it to ourselves

  • I will play it to my children - hope they take 10% of it..

  • good luck

  • I heared this song when it was released - missed what it was named and who released it - nearly forgtot about it for 20 year ... searching for it for 5 years and finally found it... Great Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song hasnt been out for 20 years it was released in 1999.

  • Thanks god - that means I am not THAT old yet... ;-)

Oh man you made my day...

  • Ha no anytime man. This song came out when i graduated so i understand your pain.

  • Study maths - for if you do not you will think the last decade took 20 years to complete.

    I am an arse.

  • no one is going to say it? study english lol btw: years, decades, scores, centuries, and millenia are units of time, but are studied as vocabulary, if you understand the concept of 10, 20, 100, 1000 you don't need to know a damn thing about math

  • This is really phenomenal

  • If everyone actually lived by the words this guy is speaking, the world would be a much better place. Its the basics of life. The basics that people have forgotten.

  • the most inspiring song EVER

  • I liked this song when it was first released, i like it now

    Go on Baz!!

  • lol...i like this.=]

  • all these words this man talks about is soooo true, this is an eye opener so much truth in what he says i loved this video

  • best song going (:

  • very interesting

  • does anyone know a better concept that no-one keeps to than "do one thing every day that scares you! "

  • This song has been my guide for a lot of things in life since I first heard it on a beach in Thailand 2000.

Thank you very much for this one Kent!

Tons of love to you my beautiful friend!

  • this was at number 1 for a while in the UK...i was in hi-school...i was very happy...i spent my time studying, playing sports, perving after girls, playing tekken 3 and popping zits!my life has pretty much been up and down since then...i kinda have everything a 24 year old could want in life...but im not happy!I spend too much time worrying!you have reminded me of what it took for me to be happy, thank you. im off to stop worrying!

  • I love this, I had it on a cassette years ago but lost it.

  • i think the main theme of the song is really clever and right.. but it's pretty self-indulgent isn't it?

  • Maybe it is self-indulgent, but believe me, it's nice to know at times that things will be alright in the end.

  • that was nice to hear

  • This is the one for my funeral - has to be

  • i miss my knees

  • very interesting

  • sometimes you are as fat as you think, maybe more

  • it's true, although you do look at year old photographs and are convinced you could have modeled

  • This is sooo true!! :-)

  • you know? its things like this that truly make me appreciate life, because its so true, things in life fade...and nothing brings them back, and in the end its only you and what you let go. its like a guide on how to live a happy life in itself ya know? im just glad i stumbled across this, maybe if more people in the world listened to this song, and used it as a moral, maybe we could all live in peace...maybe not with eachother but with ourselves. i know i will but how about you?

  • and thats exactly the reason i put this up on the net after having it for years on my harddrive... thanks for your words

  • be happy, just don't settle for contentment like a frightening majority of western cilivization has been trained to do.

  • Gorgeous!Proud to say I have done quite a few of them lol! Thanks for putting this up.

  • tell me who speak in this beauty video

  • well....Baz Luhrmann. Figures, eh?

  • No, Baz is an australian. I remember seeing a documentary about this song....it's spoken by an american actor, and the words are based on an advice column.

  • The "Wear Sunscreen" speech is narrated by Australian voice actor Lee Perry. The backing is the choral version of Everybody's Free (To Feel Good), a 1991 song by Rozalla, used in the film William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet

  • @Rizashi pretty sure that baz luhrmann only created the video, the narration is done by a voice actor named Lee Perry

  • @Rizashi Actually, it's Lee Perry. Which you could have found out in 10 seconds, if you had looked it up. Guess people are just lazy.

    Figures, eh?

  • excellent song

  • Get to know your parents, you'll never know when they will be gone for good.

  • Excellent ...shared with everyone I Love

  • the song is LIFE

  • I can't believe this was a #1 single. I mean, it's good, because the message is nice. But, it's weird...

  • omgsh!

joe jonas was in one of his broadway shows!

and in some weird disturbing way i like this video!

    :D

  • this makes sense (in a weird way)

  • is that the same Baz Luhrmann that made Romeo+Juliet the Astralian director???

  • It is, yes. =)

  • yeah baz lurmanns a film director quite a good one as well
