  • Jimi would be proud...

  • That face, and scream is EPIC.

  • kind of a bob zeppelin - stairway to the watchtower

  • predator tearing up the violin :D

  • LOS VERSOS DE DYLAN QUE INMORTALIZZÓO JIMI HENDRIX EN SU VERSIÓN FUÉ INTERPRETADO POR MAS DE 60 GRUPOS Y SOLISTAS CONOCIDOS.

    paulchildband

    LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT!!!!

  • Goosebumps...

  • The first time I ever heard someone make this song their own was Jimi... it has been nearly 40 years... but this is the first time since then, that I have heard someone make this song their own. Bravo Dave Mathews... Bravo.

  • I felt the soul of joker and the thief throughout this performance.

  • Carter is a bubble blowing master...oh and the drumming is okay too.

  • This sucks so bad...NOT!

  • As long as you think of this separately from Hendrix and Dylan, this is unbelievable. Matthews makes it a totally different song

  • The emotion Dave and the band put into all of their music, and especially this song, is what makes it so awesome to watch

  • @stumvee. Yeah, but you still watched the whole thing!

  • Just because he's singing with his eyes closed doesn't mean it's any good. I don't know which is worse, the sitting-on-the-toilet-while-constipated facial expressions, the Kermit-the-frog-esque vocals, the five minute "jam session", or the obscene screaming at the end...

Dave Matthews is a much better magician than musician. He has all of you dolts tricked into thinking this is great cover. Somewhere, Bob Dylan is crying...

  • @stumvee are you fucking stupid?

  • @stumvee that is your opinion, and i respect that, but Bob Dylan is crying tears of joy.

  • even if most people wouldnt agree i think this is the best interpretation of this song ever, saw DMB live in germany; especially this was so impressing!

  • เพราะจัง ><

  • เพราะจัง ><

  • need to know, is this song on any live cd<? how do i put that on my ipod?

  • He ends it with "No reason to get excited" as if this is just another act and there's nothing about it that is special.

Well, it might be for him, but I was on the edge of my seat when he was screaming it out.

  • wow.. its just .. wonderful

  • :O AMAZING. I never thought anyone would do it as well as Hendrix.

  • This is the kind of music that just makes you SMILE!

Dave Matthews and his band are genius!

I saw them live for the first time in Atlantic City New Jersey

    and the show was Awesome!!!

  • Dave Mason probably did one of the best versions.......Matthews is a hack compared to him.......on guitar and vocals.

  • ENJOY THE MUSIC AND...SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry but he sounds like there's a carrot stuck up his ass!

  • The only band that should ever be permitted to play this song after Bob Dylan's dead. Perfect combination of the melancholy of Dylan and the desperate power of Jimi. <3

  • 10 people do not know what they are music's scientists.

  • just beautiful!

  • man that drummer is a monster ... i want him in my band ! Actually what a fucking band ... superb :)

  • man that drummer is a monster ... i want him in my band !

  • The build up reminds me of the "Stairway To Heavens" solo, not a bad thing of course!

  • @CreteNick In some live versions where Tim Reynolds plays with the band, they actually do throw the Stairway solo in there!

  • To all who wonder, the singer is Dave Matthew, and his band is called : Dave Matthews Band ;D

  • @jeannotlapin33 close. his name is actually dave matthews. it's not "dave matthew's band" with an apostrophe.

  • 6 years ago today at theHarvey Theater, New York, NY Epicness was born

  • 10 people hit the wrong thumb by accident.

  • "what band is this?"... That hurt my heart. LOVE DMB!!!!

  • @toniq781 Sorry to hurt your heart I just didn't know I don't listen to DMB too much so sorry

  • @Cdls628 s'ok..Im a forgiving tree hugger. Have you discovered the bliss of DMB? I'm biased, it's a mystery to me how anyone could not like them, but I am aware it happens. sadly

  • @toniq781 No no Its not that I don't like them I actually find them pretty awesome but the thing was is that the description didn't say the band so I didn't know but I like them so don't get sad on me cause DMB is great in my books

  • ACTUALLY LOVE THE VIOLIN SOLO lol

  • dylan is proud...even jimi wud be proud of these guys.

  • Dave Matthews Band is the name of this band

  • Truly everyone of them is the best at what they do.

  • What band is this?

  • @Cdls628 AHHHH!!! Isn't there a Lady Gaga video you should be watching?

  • @Rasha5377 What the hell are you talking about? I didn't who the band was I don't listen to DMB like that so relax yourself not everyones going to know every band in the world

  • why must all good things come to an end.... this song should be endless

  • beautiful guitar :)

    love this song

    best version

    my poinion

  • BEST Version of this song, their Live in New York Album

OMFG Stefan and Tim on that track make me JIZZZZZZZ

  • Stefan totally chills for most other songs but for this one he really shinesss god damnnn

the whole band was on top of their game. wait. when are they not?

    ♥DMB

  • If I read, "I jizzed at x:xx" or "eargasm" one more time I'm going to puke.

  • best version ever! no trolling!

  • @Fratalian274 why are you being a troll and posting shitty comments on all DMB Covers of Watchtower?

  • Ever herd if you have nothing good to say keep your mouth shut. That said : IMO DMB did a great rendition close to being a tribute to hendrix. Thanks for the vid twosteppinant

  • @MonteC41 excuse me? a tribute to hendrix and the person whom originally wrote the song??? Being? None other than his bobliness... Mr Dylan

  • kick ass yeah!!!

  • Holy fecal matter batman. He knocked it out of the park.

  • i think i jizzed at 3:40 as well

  • epic buildup -> epic boyd fiddle solo

    .... keyboard solo. WEAK.

  • @sleftable He was one of the best AND he is dead you asshole, show some respect.

  • @1thompsk mybad for voting u down. ithought u were talking about the video, not the jackass comment made by the infidel

  • @1thompsk no lives

  • @1thompsk to the guys that dont know jimi

  • @sleftable It'll be difficult since he's dead since 2 years

  • @sleftable You have issues!!

  • @sleftable a lot off ppl if not all the ppl watching this want to punch you in the face

  • 7 people are idiots apparently... how can one not like this song?

  • I like violins in rock bands since Kansas, after DMB it is unhoughtful not to have one!

  • This song is just amazing no matter which version you listen to

  • Greatest version ever

  • 7:37 shivvers start

  • i dont understand, this song is something the gods dropped from heaven, and we have people arguing whether its good or bad? Please, i beg you. Do not criticize something until you've made better.

  • Greg howe no violino e Jorge aragao na batera..uahsaushaushauhs

  • @esvillela e stevie wonder no sax kkkkkk

  • @gotenchaves pior... kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • master piece of this art :)

  • Hendrix took Watchtower from Dylan and made it his own... This is the first time I've heard anyone make it their own since Hendrix

  • @TheReppy Rolling on the Floor, Laughing My Mother Fucking Ass OFF!! That's like saying "Hey, Henry Ford has a great idea there" and so they create Chevrolet and then some dumb mother fucker says "Hey, Ol' Henry ain't the only one that can mass produce cars! And, some of those Chevy cars are hot!"

  • @TheReppy The only thing Hendrix "took" from Dylan was inspiration to do his own thing.

  • @TheReppy dude greatful dead, U2, eric clapton, stevie wonder, hendrix, dylan, DMB and many many other bands have covered it. at alot of big events dylan does watchtower with other bands but yeah there like countless covers

  • roi the saxplayer didnt get fired nor was he dying during this show. he died like 2 years ago in an ATV accident. really unfortunate

  • Nobody ever mentions bob dylan's version. It is probably the only bob dylan song I like

  • @troykeenanguitar and he wrote it i believe. i like the hendrix version the best

  • DMB and hendrix both sounded amazing!!!! lol i have the hendrix recording but looking for the DMB recording......

  • i love this version so much... much more from the heart...This one gives me peace and jimi's gives me excitement and hope..love em both!!!

  • DMB's version of this at Folsom Field is the single greatest live performance of all time, its such a shame so few people know about it, if its not in the related videos then search for it.

  • sax player got fired after the show

  • @SimpIicity1 dude, he was dying at the time

  • @headshock1111 I don't know if you are trying to be funny cause I don't know the band that well, but he actually is dead now

    Due to an atv accident

  • @SimpIicity1 go shoot yourself

  • The sax solo(l) sounded like he was running out of breath the entire time.

  • most beautiful song period.

  • you know the song itself is awesome overall. still amazing when original done by dylan, covered by hendrix, and dave matthews

  • OMG!

  • the quiet intro is really tight

  • am i hearing things or is there wah coming from that violin love it

  • so the guitar riff is definitley stolen from stairway to heaven right?

  • @pgdrums12 ive always thought this too

  • @pgdrums12 ~ no, but yes. Every song written can be played with 4 cords... look it up

  • not gonna lie, that sax solo was pretty shitty

  • @pgdrums12 he died last year, let it be

  • Martes noche, ya miércoles. Noche de verano. ¿Vacaciones?, si, o no. Qué más da. ¿Tienes auriculares? Si es así, sube el volumen y déjate seducir por esta versión genial, enérgica, tremenda de la histórica canción de Jimmy Hendrix. Que la disfrutes. Guauuuuuuuuu. Ah, que tengas una buena noche. Un abrazo.

  • @josegura40 es de dylan

  • Both Hendrix and DMB kick ass so dont talk shit either way

  • I didn't know Lil Wayne played violin for Dave Matthews

  • I saw them on rock werchter (belgium) aaawwsssoooommmeeee!!! Carter the best !!

  • omg awesome cordination awesome group

  • love this band...can't say i love this version, i thinks its too far away from the original, at least when jimi covered it he kept the same vocal melody line as bob's...love the violin solo, insane!!!

  • why does everybody forget that this is originally a bob dylan song? zimmerman did it best.

  • i dont know what to think, i either hate it or love it but im not sure lol

  • dave was the best thing to happen to music.

  • love this song. so much emotion its fucking kinetic. Dave's voice is epic that's the only way to describe it

  • no one takes risks like dave. his voice was on the verge of cracking at the end yet he kept on pushing it out... so courageous!

  • grunge style vocals.... NICE....

  • even jimbo likes his version too..he was all about taking other peoples tracks and mixing it up! remember that ;)x

  • hendrix better and he even didnt try to compete

  • Orgasmic.

  • Carbondale pa love DMB

  • hell i love hendrix, but dave kicks his ass in this one.

  • hendrix and dylan are both in a realm of their own. DMB did a great job on the cover, but like ichbingott said, I doubt they were trying to top anyone by covering this. And yes, if it wasn't for bands covering, some greats would be lost. Example: Cream (crossroads) reminded a whole generation who Robert Johnson was.

  • This song is almost as good as the Dylan version! (sry guys and/or girls, I'm not a big fan of hendrix)

  • AHHHHH DMB!!! love it

  • That was wicked!! I swear a band has never affected me like DMB has. They are really something special.

  • awesome!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry boys and girls, as much as I love Dave, he has nothing on Neil Young's live version of this song. excellent try though.

  • I'm sure he'll admit it.

90% of musicians don't do covers to try to top the original; they do it to keep that song and the original writers in memory.

Had it not been for covers like this, people under 25 wouldn't know who any decent musicians are. Someone would say "OMG; i just love Janis Joplin!" People would respond with "Did she do backup with Beyonce?"

  • no one has anything on anyone.

so let us not talk falsely now.

  • wie viel talent auf einer bühne versammelt sein kann

  • Amazing, no other words to describe this, it's just what music is all about !!!

  • This is the epitome of musicianship. Being a Saxophonist myself I cannot post on here without saying rest in peace Leroy Moore.

  • Such a wonderful moment to have a room full of people that are totaly silent when listening to a great song. Shows respect.

  • Saw DMB play this in Dublin last night...sent shivers up and down my spine. What a song for a haunting atmosphere...amazing.

  • wow. something about Dave's screams that are very primative and come from a place that no one else has been.

  • @barefoot000 i agree 100% totally

  • AWESOME!

  • Amazing guys

  • @ctrams522 I have one too! Not from the same show though! I live near Tim Reynolds step-son and was luck enough to get some backstage passes to the 2009 spring tour!

  • Just amazing, I can't find words for this...

  • Awesome, thank you 4 the video

  • i jizzed at 3:40

  • @dylan1728 me too!

  • 7:38 for me bro...

  • @dylan1728 didnt we all....

  • What a performance! Just amazing...

  • Does anyone notice Carter at 7:05 throw his stick?!

  • @googenshlagen i have one of his sticks cause they hand them out after the encore in the post ghazette pavilion idk if the do it anywhere else but i got one and i wanted to cry

  • Oh shit! So good!

  • Comment removed

  • Is the drummer eating something?

  • Carter is kind of known for eating gum while he plays. Every concert i've been to/seen hes done the same thing

  • lol he's got a stash of snacks in the back during the slower parts. ;)

  • No. Chewing gum

  • OUTSTANDING ! ! !

  • Note Carter chucking a busted stick away - 7:05

    Awesome

  • butch taylor is pretty goddamn sweet

  • I miss him badly

  • I love both this version and Dylans version. But my favourite version is Michael Hedges. :)

  • crosby stills and nash originated the rifts for 3/4 of all these famous and face melting tracks... gotta give it up for each artist as a whole everyone brings something new to anytrack ever made some bad bad men out there rippin cords AINT IT COOOOL!!!!

  • PLease guys, do not compare DMB and Hendrix. Both of their versions are amazing and have stood their own in time. I love both Hendrix and DMB and as musicians they deserve respect that you fools are not giving them. They would both be ashamed to read your idiotic comments.

  • and on top of that even, there both covers, so you cant really state the superiority of one or the other, there both just renditons of a clasic bob dylan song

  • if you like this song, check out the michael hedges version, it's the best thing ever, hands down

  • Oh I love this song - and Dave Matthews is AMAZING doing this cover.. ALL HAIL MATTHEWS!

  • Busch Taylor is a beast.

  • Only Reynolds could've made this song better, because god knows he did at the concert I went to.

  • That bass solo is kick ass man,

no other way to put it.

  • There is so another way to puy it...... the whole thing is kick ass man.

  • fucking amazing performance!!! what is dave yelling at the end? before saying no reason to get excited

  • Sounds like he's shouting "Fire!"

I can't make out who he's telling to fire though........

  • he is yelling Fire.

  • the ththeif he say FIRE the lion he say FIRE
