I know I've seen this clip before and I'm pretty sure I commented on it. anyway, yea, like the one guys said, shit happens, you can do everything right and a 50 cent valve keeper breaks, drops a valve and boom, shit goes flying everywhere. And it's more likely to happen to a nitro motor then just alky or gas. Odd stuff, at room temp its barely flamable, compress it enough and it'll spontaniously combust. that's why they shut the fuel off first after a run, killing the ignition won't shut it off.
The cacklefest is a bitchin' deal but some folks act like they are in the final round at Indy. The driver should of stuck his foot on the clutch after it wouldn't fire the FIRST time and got pushed off.
People who attend these events are aware of the possible dangers associated with them. This can be a high risk sport, even for spectators, but true fans will not allow that to stop them from enjoying these historical treasures.
You got THAT right! Jimmy Nix broke in half at the Snow Birds. His car came over the fence right at us!! We all dove behind a motor home parked at the fence line.
Next week we saw our pictures in National Dragster jumpimg out of the way!!
This was an extremely serious incident and the man is fortunate to have his eyesight . Nitro motors are man-made bombs even when they are not running !
Considering the amount of years of nitro experience present at that event , how could someone not forsee this happening ?
@prsjoe Real simple, Shit happens. Clutches hang, gear boxes refuse to come out of gear, fuel pressure regulators leak, the mags can flash over. You can do everything right on one of those cars and they can still chuck a rod.
As the video shows not everyone was OK,this could have been a very bad deal and I just hope it's not the end of the Cacklefest as we know it.Insurance is high enough for tracks and something like this will probably create a problem.
I wish I could be there to see you take your last breath .
