Hey, you went through the whole game, here's your reward, hope you like it, cause this is what you earned, you die no matter what, and both your best friend and your horse were brought back to life by your noble sacrifice to starve to death in the abandoned castle. so in the end you acomplished nothing at all, and in fact lost things, and killed those collosi. You truly got what you deserved in the end, huh?

Nope. The Secret Garden has life in it, which shows that it is possible to survive there. Not to mention they've got the whole lay of the land to themselves now to hunt for lizards and fruit. Is it the most desirable lifestyle? Well..........no. No, definitely not. But they won't starve to death.

The actual story really isn't any deeper than Mario saving Peach, don't try to hype it up to a point it doesn't deserve. There might be some depth added on at the end of the game, but leaving the player with a stupid "go here kill monster save girl" plot for the entire time only to add a little depth at the end is terrible story telling the first place.

That's where you're wrong. In Mario, you basically play the good guy saves damsel in distress from evil monster. In SotC, Wander is going against the law of nature to resurrect someone important to him. There are clues that what you're doing is wrong too. After you kill a Colossus, a sad theme plays rather than victory music. This was done to inflict doubt in the player. Wander's appearance slowly deteriorates...

As for the game, I find it fun to slay giant beasts and ride in a barren wasteland that makes me feel like I'm in a real place.
I just thought, maybe that baby isn't Ico. This game could be set many years before ICO (i.e. the primitive clothing and weapons) and that baby simply is the cause of the horned children curse or whatever in ICO.
Also, I think that he has horns because his releasing of Dormin was a serious sin, and those horns symbolize that sin.
The ending was really sad, also because I was forced to look it up, since my parents made me eat dinner right after the last part your able to control your character. I just knew the horse (Agro) would come back, since he fell into the river, and the developers wouldn't just let him die, he was an awesome horse all in all.

Personally I just found the fact that he died, never knowing that he succeeded. His girlfriend would probably never know that it was him that saved her, and he would never learn about it after his resurrection. The horse is the only one that knows, yet he cannot share that knowledge...its happy, but so incredibly sad...

I think it's amazing how much is left unanswered by Team Ico. So much speculation about this mysterious and beautiful world.. Many in the internetz have wondered. Did the shaman and his men come from the village in Ico? Did Wander (red haired dude) start the bloodline of horned children? Could Yorda be somehow related to Mono? And then, what became of these characters? What became of Mono and infant Wander? So many questions.. Such a masterpiece in gaming.

Alternate Ending: When Lord Emon throws the sword into the pool instead of unleashing the whirlwind, it misses the pool and falls off to the side where Dormin picks it up, leaving Lord Emon powerless. Lord Emon's then like "oh fuck." LOL.
It's a classic example of human inperfection, this man was facing death in the face for love, to save a loved one, but those of athority only see a criminal, not a brave soul of good intentions and love, they look to only what they care about, the suffering soul of this man means nothing to them, their selfishness and interfearence killed the man and left his lover stranded and alone

Agro is an honest, loyal creature that was always there. He sacrificed himself to save Wander. Of course people were saddened.
@kirasaji Its easier to feel sry for an innocent animal that really didn't do anything wrong, when you know things that the fellow human being is capable of things like War, genocide, cruelty, the next hitler or when you have been hurt or attacked by another person it makes it hard to feel sry for other people when you know how evil most are. It happens when some animals should be put down for wrong things but the humans that have done things deserving of that are like 10x outdoing that. :)

There are many hidden meanings to this ending, such as the transformation of the colossal ghost into the ghost of the main hero. This signifies that colossus and man share similar fates. And the camera angle when he is being sucked down the vortex into the pool has excellent imagery, where the screen focusses on his love, and as he gets closer to the pool hes being sucked into, the camera switches focus onto that instead. Its saying that all hope is gone and he should accept it.
I was sooooooo sad for Agro and then sooooooo happy when she wasn't deadafter all :D (the horse's the only loveable character in this whole stupid game anyway.... so killing her would have completely ruined whatever little respct I still had for the developpers)

Personally I just found the fact that he died, never knowing that he succeeded. His girlfriend would probably never know that it was him that saved her, and he would never learn about it after his resurrection. The horse is the only one that knows, yet he cannot share that knowledge...its happy, but so incredibly sad...

I beg to differ, it was this, imagine, To revive someone you love you must destroy a ton of large collosus's, after that you get shot in the leg by an arrow, and see a sword about to stab your heart.
Good news! Despite the pain, your alive!, bad news, it hurts a lot. And when you have just about to claim your reward..... you forget everything you have ever done, everyone you have loved, cause your a baby!

Wander went through Living hell to save the girl he loved. Him being dragged away from her by force brought me to tears.
Ocarina of time was groundbreaking with its gameplay and story telling. But this game perfected the Art. BEST GAME EVER.

@Neoltoh: Clearly it does. But what is he going to do, grow up with the woman he loved taking care of him, not by her side as a lover liked her yearned to be. Not only that, but he'll forever be a different person. He'll never be, Wander because he will never grow up with the same setting or circumstances. Plus this baby is about to set off a chain reaction of outcasts in society for the next hundreds of years. That still all sounds pretty sad to me, man. >.<

@JEngbertson: When the horse fell in the water? Are you kidding me? Did you not just SEE what happened. That horse had a messed up foot. Wander, who fought so hard to see the woman he loved draw breath again, finally achived that, but at the cost of NEVER being able to look into her eyes again. THAT is fucking sad. The horse is fine.

I think it's amazing how much is left unanswered by Team Ico. So much speculation about this mysterious and beautiful world.. Many in the internetz have wondered. Did the shaman and his men come from the village in Ico? Did Wander (red haired dude) start the bloodline of horned children? Could Yorda be somehow related to Mono? And then, what became of these characters? What became of Mono and infant Wander? So many questions.. Such a masterpiece in gaming.

Alternate Ending: When Lord Emon throws the sword into the pool instead of unleashing the whirlwind, it misses the pool and falls off to the side where Dormin picks it up, leaving Lord Emon powerless. Lord Emon's then like "oh fuck." LOL.

@kirasaji: Wander brought this on himself. He is the one who knew there would be consequences but kept with the ritual anyway. This was his punishment... tragic and sad, but it was no accident. At least he was reborn despite nearly bringing the doom of his people.
Agro is an honest, loyal creature that was always there. He sacrificed himself to save Wander. Of course people were saddened.

@kirasaji Its easier to feel sry for an innocent animal that really didn't do anything wrong, when you know things that the fellow human being is capable of things like War, genocide, cruelty, the next hitler or when you have been hurt or attacked by another person it makes it hard to feel sry for other people when you know how evil most are. It happens when some animals should be put down for wrong things but the humans that have done things deserving of that are like 10x outdoing that. :)

WE burned down forests, started wars, kill animals (Animals are all probably going to be dead after a few hundred years), we made machines (so we can kill the animals QUICKER), and more. If WE continue doing this, the world will be a horible place. Animals has much more right o live than WE do!

Obviously people have made mistakes, like Wander, but this game is about redemption. It's about picking up the pieces after a tragedy, and embracing absolute freedom (the bird imagery).

There are many hidden meanings to this ending, such as the transformation of the colossal ghost into the ghost of the main hero. This signifies that colossus and man share similar fates. And the camera angle when he is being sucked down the vortex into the pool has excellent imagery, where the screen focusses on his love, and as he gets closer to the pool hes being sucked into, the camera switches focus onto that instead. Its saying that all hope is gone and he should accept it.
