mr chevy385--- one sbc question. is it possible to use a flat tappet cam in a factory roller cam block?

@mschiffel1 Absolutely. A lot of the late 80s and early 90s truck engines were set up for hydraulic roller but still cam stock flat tappet.

stock manifolds, stock y-pipe, replacement catalytic converter, and no muffler

Me too! I actually sat on the inner fenders to route the plug wires and stuff.

@chevy385 lol yeah i also have a 79' C-10 pick-up with the stock 305 in it, and there's is still SO much room in it.. i love it lol

When I had my 454 is my 77 Stepside I still had room to curl up next to it under the hood

Nope. It's out of the truck. I replaced it with a stock 350. The 350 has stock manifolds on it.

Nice motor! It is definitely a runner. Those 283's had some serious balls for a motor that size.

It runs great, but like I said, I didn't build it for a heavy truck I built it for a light car with a loose torque converter. I put a stock 350 in the truck and I can actually spin the tires now. Of course I am not exactly thrilled with the cam Crane recommended me for the 283 either

It is surely a runner. It just does not belong in that big truck. Which it isn't anymore. It is sitting on a tire in my garage right now. The truck got a Goodwrench 350 . My 283 was built for my 73 Nova with it's 3.73 gears and 3500 torque converter. THAT is what that engine needs!
