This video's quite old, but it's worth noting that if your opponent goes into their main phase, you cannot activate Formula's effect to make a Trishula if they have not yet done anything in their main phase.
ok one thing i have seen it that people have a Pyramid Turtle in attack mode and i destroy it then they drop gorz in response with its first effect and brings in another monster with Pyramid Turtle's effect is that allowed or is gorz under missed timing
Question: I have a face up Caius and formula synchron. Its my opponents turn and he activates Dark Hole. I respond with formula synchron effect to synchro summon Stardust Dragon. Can Stardust negate Dark Hole? or does it miss the timing?
@TheHeartlessSoul666 yup, cuz stardust needs to be on the field during dark hole's activation. when stardust comes out, dark hole is already resolving
In soviet Russia, Trish targets you!! lol jk, I believe I heard somewhere that Trish targets in Japan? Orr something like that. I don't remember clearly. But that might be where the confusion is coming from.
@teamdelta101 Stardust will miss the timing same as if you chain call of the living dead targeting stardust, stardust will miss the timing and wont be able to negate it, because stardust wasn't on the field and when dark hole was activated
@TeamMinoritySPG I'm speaking of the general idea. Just use the basis of it and add upon it. Yes given most players on here aren't veterans so I don't expect them to get it but still would be nice to see some good explanation. Not bashing the video, just saying. I'll probably start doing more DGz-based content because need to become more informed about this game as a whole.
@intch95 I appreciate you wanting to do more DGZ based content as I believe it's the best YGO forum on the internet, and they have plenty of great information that people can learn from. Honestly SEGOC has nothing to do with this video. Simultaneous Effects Go On Chain (SEGOC) is used to explain chains in which effects that activate at the same time. Example: Dark Hole destroys Sangan and Dandylion, both are destroyed at the same time, so they activate at the same time.
@TeamMinoritySPG Again, not what I meant. I'm saying you could have referred to the SEGOC idea as far as interrupting the mechanic of the chain itself while it's still in resolution. Almost reminds me of back in the day how people tried to cheat with the Thestalos through Soul Exchanging and opponent's Sangan and trying to force them to search before they discarded for thestalos' effect. I'm basically just saying refer to those explanations for some of yours.
let me ask you V i was on duelnetwork.co.m and i was playing a mirror match with sabers i had my emmers blade set and he had his set also with a fullhelm knight on the field. he then activates creature swap i have no response he gets my set emmers and i get his. next he enters battle phase and atk declaration. he runs into HIS emmers with HIS fullhelm knight. my question is doesnt one miss timing because they are both optional effects? he argued that he was a judge and neither miss timing.
@charuto5 Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think any of them miss the timing because the last thing to happen was his Fullhelmknight destroying his Emmersblade. Both the effects trigger, and form a chain.
@charuto5 neither miss timing, emmersblade is chain link 1 fullhelm is chain link 2, you miss timing when something tries to activate in the middle of the resolution of a chain. Both of these activate at the same time, meaning they create a chain together. I am also a judge and I asked one other judge i know just to make sure.
@dragonsyth1 yes we thought it was like that too, but then the ruling states: "You choose the cards to be removed from play when resolving the effect of "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" so that means from the chain link we made, i have the control of his trishula then trishulas effect resolves so were kinda ehh on that
If Formula is used during the opponent's main phase for the synchro, could TKR negate the summon? Was the synchro monster treated as summoned by Formula's effect or was it an inherent summon?
@UGO2DIPi this is a good question, formula just says you can synchro during your opponents turn, doesn't say anything about it being summoned by his effect, so it should be fine to negate with TKRO unless it is at resolution of a chain, in which case tkro would miss timing in a similar way to trishulas effect missing timing.
@ReeceBenlier you get both effects, sangan is chain link 1 trishula is chain link 2, similar to what happens when you synchro for black rose using a dandylion, dandy is chain link 1 black rose is 2, resolve backwards. so trishula would remove their cards then you would search for sangan.
this was useful...it thought trishula was mandatory...lol. i should read. Also, It wouldnt have hurt if you explained that mandatory effects still work. like tengu, since they can still go off after the chain.
for those still confused with dark hole and trish it's basically this. turn player, having priority, can play dark hole first. he activates dark hole and the opponent chains by syncing for trish. because chains work backward, trish is summoned but it's effect cannot be activated because the dark hole immediately resolves after. same goes for stardust and brd. in cases like bottomless and torrential against trish, they resolves first and then trish activates because it is not desrupting a chain.
hey V ive got a question. you know the T.G.s that search for anotherone when they are destroyed, do you still get the search when you synchro with them?
This was very informative, and I'll go with the assumption that Shooting Star Dragon's Once Per Turn auto-negation of destruction effects will also miss timing the same way in the future (if I'm wrong on that one though feel free to correct me), great video
When Player 1 declares he will enter the Battle Phase, then Player 2 activates Formula's effect and gets out Black Rose Dragon/Trishula, will their effects still occur?
@KevTimWinSch Just a clarification on my earlier answer: when they say they are entering battle phase you have to say before you end your Main Phase I'm going to activate Formula.
@konahaduelist To essentially "stop" the trunade, you need a card that negates its effect. Mystical Space Typhoon merely destroys a card, not negating anything. Thus, if mst is chained to Giant trunade, the effect of trunade still follows through
@konahaduelist yes, mst does not negate, it only destroys, playing mst at that point would be a waste as it would do nothing unless they had other face downs that you wanted to destroy with that mst.
@kktcguard No, you can't negate Dark Hole's effect with Stardust Dragon because Stardust must be present on the field when the card is activated. So if they activate Dark Hole on your field of Formula Synchron and Caius the Shadow Monarch and you chain Formula's effect to DH to synchro summon Stardust, resolving backwards, Stardust is summoned and Dark Hole resovles and destroys Stardust, because Stardust was not already on the field when DH was activated. Stardust has to chain to the effect.
See with trishula interrupting the chain, the best example you can use there is some-one activating allure of darkness and the oppenent activating trap dustshoot when the oppenent draws to 4 cards
@tryingtohard1235 It's the same as with trishula, you CAN NOT under any circumstance interupt a resolving chain. Thus Stardust's effect can NOT be applied if it's in the middle of a resolving chain.
@alexyRKO BRD is chain link 1, Skill drain is chain link 2. Skill drain resolves first, negating monster effects on the field, then BRD resolves without effect as skill drain is present on the field.
thank you god someone made this video. I hate seeing people trying to use formula to synch into something and try to use rose or dusty or trish in the middle of a chain. its just like *facedesk*....YOU CANT DO THAT!! Someone also tried to tell me that with aurkus up, you cant use trish's effect on a LS monsters and im like...bitch, trish doesn't target. he's like...but u still have to pick cards so thats targetting....and im like .....shut the hell up xD. u are a retard. newho good vid
alright so what i heard and its in the rule book apparently. im told when your opponent enters the main phase. the opponent has priority to do something in the main phase. so you couldnt just activate formula randomly until they do something.
I thought in order to activate a card on your opponents turn it had to be in response to something. In the case of Formula I thought you could chain it to the end of the main phase, but not able to activate it willy nilly during that main phase? please respond with clarification on this. Thanks! Nice video btw
You can't just randomly activate formula during your opponents main phase. Your opponent always has priority to play a card, or activate an effect during their own turn. You can only activate Formula or other cards effects after your opponent has already played a card, or passes priority.
@TeamBumpyJustin Yes this has been answered in previous comments. The turn player has priority to perform any action (summon a monster, activate a card effect, etc.) upon entering a phase. Your opponent can tell you that they don't wish to activate anything when entering Main Phase, so you can then use Formula to synchro summon. Also by declaring that they wish to end Main Phase they pass priority to you. I probably should have mentioned that in this video, but I forgot to do so.
hey V, i was heard that you could now soul exchange for nothing, like tribute the monster without actually tribute summoning or for and effect, is this true?
@TheFirstmanonthesun When you Soul Exchange their monster, their monster won't be tributed until you decide to tribute summon your monster. I can Soul Exchange your monster and make any other plays I want after that, and tribute your monster for my own later in that same turn.
@likewtf1234 no, he just explained the same exact situation with trishula, both trishula and black rose will miss the timing when summoned in the middle of a chain. formula is chain link 2 because its chained to your dark hole, they get black rose first, black rose can't activate because dark hole needs to activate, black rose misses timing, dark hole kills black rose and the backrow remains untouched
and if I synch for Stardust with formula in responde to a Dark Hole instead of synching for trish, can I activate stardust's effect to negate the dark hole?
So if I summon a caius and try to remove my opponent's formula and they have a lvl 5 monster out, can they go into black rose and blow everything up? Or wat happens? :/
@azzazzinr caius is chain link 1, formula is chain link 2, formula's effect resolves getting them black rose, caius' effect then resolves causing blackrose to miss the timing and therefore the field is not blown up
whether caius's target is still on the field or not doesn't matter, his effect still "resolves" causing black rose to miss timing
@ryancampos137 I'm not 100% sure on that, reasonable explanation but some people will say his effect fizzles rather than resolves, but I'd think either way your correct.
@cockblocktrades Nope. Remember what I said in the video...you cannot interrupt a resolving chain by adding a new effect. You can synchro into stardust, but he will die to Dark Hole.
@cockblocktrades dont think so... if its the same idea as this, itd miss timing also, its do dark hole>synchro response. end chain. then stardust trying to activate the effct. but im not sure. thats wat it sounds like
Woah, Woah, Woah. Missing the Timing should only be associated with cards with the "When....Can" clause, that would miss their timing, like Dupe Frog.
@TeamMinoritySPG Although, "Missing the Timing" isn't an official term, it's used to describe effects with the "When....Can" clause that missed their opportunity to be activated, like a Dupe Frog that has been used for a tribute summon. No card can be activated during a resolving chain, but that isn't the same as "Missing the Timing" , the phrase should not be used in regards to situations like this, although this really doesn't matter, terminology should be correct, especially by a Judge.
@iSellYouStuff What would you call it then? It seems to be a case of "Missing the Timing" here b/c it's an optional trigger effect with the "When X you can do Y" clause, but the last thing to occur is some other card effect on Chain Link 1.
@iSellYouStuff You are correct in that missing the timing is not an official term for the game. Saying that "missing the timing to activate an effect" and "the activation timing is not correct" are the same way of getting the point across. You can see on the judge forum that even Franklin Debrito uses the term "missing the timing." The activation trigger for BRD/Trish is met with CL 2 Formula, however the activation timing is incorrect (miss the timing to activate effect). It is the same.
@TheTeamADT Right absolutely, but I wanted to keep this video simpler than that lol. Your opponent has priority to activate Dark Hole as soon as they enter main phase one. Most don't always do that. That's kind of why I said "If you're opponent hasn't done anything you can blah blah blah."
@TheTeamADT Slight correction on my part. Your opponent has priority to perform an action at the beginning of any phase. Still didn't want to get into that right here, but I probably could have.
You got really good English lol.
Question, what if I dark hole and they use formula and caius and go into stardust. Can their stardust negate my dark hole?

You can't just randomly activate formula during your opponents main phase. Your opponent always has priority to play a card, or activate an effect during their own turn. You can only activate Formula or other cards effects after your opponent has already played a card, or passes priority.
TeamBumpyJustin 9 months ago
@TeamBumpyJustin Yes this has been answered in previous comments. The turn player has priority to perform any action (summon a monster, activate a card effect, etc.) upon entering a phase. Your opponent can tell you that they don't wish to activate anything when entering Main Phase, so you can then use Formula to synchro summon. Also by declaring that they wish to end Main Phase they pass priority to you. I probably should have mentioned that in this video, but I forgot to do so.

cockblocktrades 9 months ago
@cockblocktrades Nope. Remember what I said in the video...you cannot interrupt a resolving chain by adding a new effect. You can synchro into stardust, but he will die to Dark Hole.

@cockblocktrades dont think so... if its the same idea as this, itd miss timing also, its do dark hole>synchro response. end chain. then stardust trying to activate the effct. but im not sure. thats wat it sounds like

i've had 2 explain the formula thing 2 mkohl40 lol...
TheCardTrooper 9 months ago
TheTeamADT is correct about that point. You cannot go straight into Trishula in Main Phase 1 if your opponent does not pass their priority.
Although that goes into the SUPER fine details of Yugioh ahah
MonarchVV 9 months ago
@MonarchVV No, it doesn't. That is basic gameplay, and isn't even remotely close to fine detail, like that of the damage step.

@shootingstardragon52 Yes I will. I want to wait until after Orlando though to get a better idea. We do have a new meta now afterall =).

Woah, Woah, Woah. Missing the Timing should only be associated with cards with the "When....Can" clause, that would miss their timing, like Dupe Frog.
iSellYouStuff 9 months ago
@iSellYouStuff And that applies to BRD and Trishula.

TeamMinoritySPG 9 months ago
@TeamMinoritySPG Although, "Missing the Timing" isn't an official term, it's used to describe effects with the "When....Can" clause that missed their opportunity to be activated, like a Dupe Frog that has been used for a tribute summon. No card can be activated during a resolving chain, but that isn't the same as "Missing the Timing" , the phrase should not be used in regards to situations like this, although this really doesn't matter, terminology should be correct, especially by a Judge.
iSellYouStuff 9 months ago
@iSellYouStuff What would you call it then? It seems to be a case of "Missing the Timing" here b/c it's an optional trigger effect with the "When X you can do Y" clause, but the last thing to occur is some other card effect on Chain Link 1.

@TeamMinoritySPG
Certainly, not "Missing the Timing" .
a) The activation timing for the effect of Stardust Dragon is not correct.
b) You can't activate an effect during a resolving chain.
Pick one and enjoy.
iSellYouStuff 9 months ago
@iSellYouStuff You are correct in that missing the timing is not an official term for the game. Saying that "missing the timing to activate an effect" and "the activation timing is not correct" are the same way of getting the point across. You can see on the judge forum that even Franklin Debrito uses the term "missing the timing." The activation trigger for BRD/Trish is met with CL 2 Formula, however the activation timing is incorrect (miss the timing to activate effect). It is the same.

thank you, you just settled an argument between me and a few friends
GrimSlug 9 months ago
don't you have to wait for your opponent to pass priority in the main phase if you want to activate formula as chain link one?
TheTeamADT 9 months ago
@TheTeamADT Right absolutely, but I wanted to keep this video simpler than that lol. Your opponent has priority to activate Dark Hole as soon as they enter main phase one. Most don't always do that. That's kind of why I said "If you're opponent hasn't done anything you can blah blah blah."
- V
TeamMinoritySPG 9 months ago
@TheTeamADT Slight correction on my part. Your opponent has priority to perform an action at the beginning of any phase. Still didn't want to get into that right here, but I probably could have.
- V
TeamMinoritySPG 9 months ago
@TeamMinoritySPG so they can take time to think about whether or not they want to hold priority for the beggining of their main phase, etc.

2 Questions...
1 - Does stardust miss the timing if you were to formula into it during your opponent's turn in response to a dark hole?
And 2 - Is that a Gold Trish?
KyutoJohasu 9 months ago
@KyutoJohasu
1. Stardust doesn't miss it's timing, it just can't activate it's effect during a resolving chain
2. That is a Secret Trish
